Abstract

This study investigates the interplay of time pressure, poor sleep habits, and jam koma as key predictors of academic burnout among university students in East Kalimantan. Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional design, the research investigates how time pressure and poor sleep habits contribute to burnout, with cognitive fatigue locally termed “jam koma”, acting as a mediator. Data were collected from undergraduate students using instruments, including scales for time pressure, sleep quality, jam koma, and burnout, and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares. The findings reveal that time pressure and inadequate sleep significantly drive burnout, both directly and indirectly through jam koma, highlighting the mediating role of mental exhaustion in amplifying academic stress. These results extend the JDR model by incorporating sleep as a critical physiological resource, offering a nuanced understanding of burnout dynamics in collectivist academic settings. This study concludes the urgent need for culturally tailored interventions, such as time management training, sleep hygiene programs, and counseling services sensitive to collectivist values, to mitigate burnout and enhance student well-being. By providing localized insights into burnout mechanisms, this research informs evidence-based strategies for fostering resilient academic environments in East Kalimantan and similar collectivist contexts, contributing to global efforts to support student mental health.

Abstract

This study examines the application of the death penalty in Indonesia from a human rights perspective, with a focus on legal reforms introduced through Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, and discusses whether the introduction of a 10-year probation period as an alternative to immediate execution can effectively protect the right to life while addressing ethical and justice dilemmas. This study uses a normative legal research method with a legislative approach. Primary legal materials were obtained from Law No. 1 of 2023, the Criminal Code, and other official legal documents, while secondary materials were obtained from credible legal and non-legal books and journals. Data collection was conducted through document study, and qualitative analysis was performed using a comparative and interpretative approach. The findings show that although the trial mechanism reflects progress in aligning criminal law with human rights values, there are still significant gaps, particularly regarding the risk of judicial error and unequal access to legal representation. These issues highlight the urgent need for harmonization of regulations with international human rights instruments, strengthening of institutional capacity among legal actors, and independent oversight mechanisms. This study concludes by recommending further interdisciplinary and empirical research to support more equitable and socially responsive criminal law reform that upholds the protection of human rights.

Abstract

The Ngemblok tradition is closely linked to the continuation of early marriage practices in several areas, including Desa Gilis, Sarang, Rembang, Indonesia. This study aims to: (1) examine the role of Ngemblok in shaping and preserving early marriage; (2) explore community views on this practice; and (3) identify the village government’s role in addressing early marriage. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed via data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings show that Ngemblok plays a key role in maintaining early marriage, as it is part of social norms and a survival strategy amid economic pressures and limited education access. The tradition acts as a form of protection and social control over adolescent girls but encourages marriage before psychological and economic maturity. Community opinions vary: some support it for moral and cultural reasons, while others recognize negative impacts like school dropouts and family instability. The village government has made efforts through counseling, youth empowerment, skills training, and children’s forums to change mindsets and reduce early marriage. However, change is difficult because Ngemblok is deeply rooted as a symbol of honor, cultural identity, and important social capital in the local society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the behavioral changes experienced by perpetrators of early marriage in Padang Capo Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province. Early marriage is still a pressing problem, especially in rural areas, despite various counseling efforts and government policies. This practice is generally influenced by low socioeconomic conditions, local cultural norms, limited education, and pregnancy before marriage. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. To understand the behavioral changes that occur, this study uses behavioral theory in sociology, which emphasizes that individual behavior is formed through the process of social learning, reinforcement from the environment, and adaptation to new social norms and roles. The main subjects in this study are four individuals who married under the age of 18. The results showed that early marriage resulted in complex and multidimensional behavioral changes, including emotional, psychological, social, and family aspects. Some informants experienced high emotional stress, limited access to education, and loss of personal freedom, especially after giving birth. However, some also showed signs of adaptation and emotional growth in their marital relationships. Changes in the social environment and new responsibilities contributed to.

Abstract

Background: Urban public spaces are essential for the social participation of persons with disabilities. However, accessibility is often hampered, not just a matter of facilities, but of the biopolitical forces that construct "disability" and control the body and subjectivity. This research aims to explain why accessibility is still limited despite inclusive policies. Methods: A systematic review of 28 scientific articles was conducted. The study selection process involves rigorous screening (inclusion/exclusion) after a comprehensive search. Data were extracted and categorized into three main themes namely biopolitics and disability body control, multiple stigma and intersectional discrimination, and accessibility and public space. Manuscripts are dominated by qualitative studies and literature reviews, with most of the publications current (2021-2025). Results: Multidimensional discrimination was identified, including social exclusion, barriers to access to services, structural/policy discrimination, and bullying. Stigma (external and internal) is the root of the problem, affecting autonomy and quality of life. Biopolitical control manifests itself in the institutional's determination of norm-based access and the system's slow response to the needs of people with disabilities. Conclusion: The limitations of accessibility, despite the existence of policies, are caused by policy failures to dismantle deep stigmas, structural discrimination, and biopolitical controls. Existing policies tend to only touch the surface, do not change the construction of "flaws" or empower subjectivity fundamentally. A comprehensive approach that addresses biopolitical barriers and stigma is absolutely necessary to achieve true inclusion.

Abstract

Climate change is becoming a multidimensional threat to the global agricultural sector, demanding urgent adaptation especially in countries with extreme climates, which has a serious impact on farmers' productivity and livelihoods. This systematic review aimed to analyse how farmers are adapting their farming practices in the midst of extreme climate change, as well as to identify the most common and effective adaptation strategies, including the barriers faced. Using the PRISMA guidelines, the study screened 1,734 articles from the Scopus database, resulting in 52 final review articles that met the eligibility criteria. The results showed that farmers implemented various adaptation strategies grouped into five main themes: agronomy & crops, water resource management, social & economic adaptation, technology & information-based adaptation, and institutional & community-based adaptation. Agronomic and water management strategies are most widely applied. However, the implementation of adaptation is faced with significant obstacles, namely limited access and availability of resources, lack of knowledge, information, and support, as well as social, institutional, and behavioral constraints. Bibliometric visualizations confirm "climate change" and "smallholder farmers" as central focuses, with increasing interest in "climate-smart agriculture". In conclusion, smallholder adaptation is a multidimensional effort that requires integrated and holistic support from government policies as well as all stakeholders to build long-term resilience.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the asceticism thoughts conveyed by Max Weber and contextualize them into the order of modern Islamic society in Indonesia. The method in this study applies a qualitative research design through library study. The data for this study were obtained from a collection of essays written by Max Weber entitled The Protestant Ethic and The Spirit of Capitalism as well as secondary literature written by other authors to sharpen the elaborative analysis in this study. The results of this study indicate that worldly asceticism conveyed by Max Weber can influence the socio-economic actions of modern Islamic society in Indonesia. Modern Islamic society in Indonesia–represented by the Islamic organizations Muhammadiyah, Persis, and Al-Irsyad establish and implement Islamic principles that correlate with worldly asceticism. This can be seen from the existence of the organization's vision and mission that rationalizes the practice of Islamic teachings through a social theological approach that is realized through the establishment of Islamic schools, hospitals, and orphanages. Thus, this article contributes to broadening the interpretive horizon regarding the relevance of Weber's thinking in the context of religion and culture.
