Abstract

This study explores the contemporary homesteading lifestyle, which is gaining increasing attention as part of a movement toward community self-reliance and sustainability. The contemporary homesteading emphasizes self-sufficient food production, efficient resource management, and the application of sustainable living practices across various spatial contexts, from rural areas to densely populated urban environments. Using a qualitative literature review approach, this article analyzes the key characteristics, benefits, implementation challenges, and potential applications of homesteading in community service activities (PkM). The findings indicate that homesteading contributes to household economic resilience, physical and mental health, environmental conservation, and the strengthening of social networks. However, this practice also faces obstacles such as limited land availability, lack of technical skills, regulatory constraints, and social resistance. In the Indonesian context, it is becoming increasingly relevant in line with the growth of urban agriculture and the need for community-based solutions. This article offers a thematic framework that can serve as a foundation for developing PkM programs based on sustainable lifestyles adapted to regional diversity. This study is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening the connection between academic literature and household-based community empowerment practices.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out at St. Leopoldo Hall, Santa Maria Immaculate Church Tarakan, with the aim of increasing Sunday School children's understanding of the importance of saving from an early age. In an effort to increase understanding of the importance of saving habits from an early age, the methods used include storytelling, group discussions, and saving simulation games designed in an interactive and fun way. A total of 62 children participated with very high enthusiasm, showing great interest in the material presented. The results of this service activity show that children have a good understanding of the concept of saving money, although only some have practiced it in their daily lives. Through an interactive game using play money, all children chose the “saving” option, reflecting their awareness of the importance of saving. This activity is considered very effective in instilling financial literacy and forming good saving habits among children. Hopefully, this activity can be a positive first step in better financial management in the future for the younger generation.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to build an understanding of the importance of imagination in enhancing mathematical communication in early childhood. Through the storytelling method, this training activity aims to provide insights to the teachers at Ibn Khawarizm Kindergarten on how to utilize storytelling in mathematics education. Before the training, 20 participants were given a pre-test to assess their initial understanding of their pedagogical knowledge, while a post-test was administered after the training to evaluate the changes. The pre-test results showed that participants had a limited understanding of the application of storytelling in mathematics teaching, with an average score of 60%. After the training, there was a significant improvement in participants' abilities, with post-test scores reaching 85% for understanding basic mathematical concepts and 80% for the ability to integrate storytelling into teaching. Participants' confidence in teaching mathematics using creative methods also increased from 65% in the pre-test to 92% in the post-test. The impact of this training is expected to enhance teachers' mathematical communication skills, which will, in turn, influence the development of mathematical communication skills in children in the classroom.

Abstract

This training program was designed to enhance business management competencies among housewives engaged in small-scale pastry enterprises in Pondok Petir, Bojongsari, Depok. The initiative specifically addressed key challenges, including financial management, task allocation among group members, and the development of effective marketing strategies. Structured to support the sustainability and growth of these micro-enterprises, the curriculum provided practical frameworks for financial oversight, product innovation, and digital marketing implementation. Furthermore, the program sought to empower participants by equipping them with strategies to scale their operations, refine product quality, and broaden market penetration.Educational methodologies emphasized participatory learning, applied simulations, and case study analyses to ensure the direct applicability of acquired skills in real-world contexts. A collaborative group-based approach was implemented to strengthen interpersonal solidarity and cooperative dynamics, thereby optimizing collective productivity.The three-month training program, conducted from January to March 2025, adopted a phased and needs-oriented structure to align with participants’ practical requirements. Post-intervention evaluations demonstrated that the training significantly improved participants’ business management proficiency, operational efficiency, and market reach. These outcomes underscore the efficacy of group-based educational interventions in fostering entrepreneurial development within community-driven enterprises.

Abstract

This community service program is conducted in Tunggulsari Village, Brangsong District, Kendal Regency, with a focus on empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through training in digital financial record-keeping using the Buku Warung application. Tunggulsari Village has strong local economic potential in the snack food industry, including gadung chips, opak, and breadfruit. The program is implemented through stages of business identification, MSME mapping, socialization, and direct assistance in applying the financial record-keeping application. The results of this activity indicate that MSME actors have gained a better understanding of the importance of financial record-keeping and are beginning to adopt digital technology in managing their businesses. Challenges faced include limited time for socialization and uneven participation among MSME actors. Nevertheless, this activity has successfully improved the financial literacy and managerial skills of business actors and has encouraged digital transformation in the rural MSME environment. This program also strengthens the role of higher education institutions in supporting community-based economic development through an applicable and sustainable technological approach.

Abstract

The number of active exporters in Indonesia remains low compared to the country’s vast national resource potential, particularly in the MSME sector. Low export literacy, complex regulations, and limited access to global markets are the main challenges. The Independent Study Program “Be a Digital Exporter” by Sekolah Ekspor offers a strategic solution through vocational and digital-based education. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method using participatory observation and questionnaires targeting participants of the 7th batch. The findings indicate that the program successfully enhanced participants’ understanding and export skills through practical learning based on the 7 in 1 Arrows of Export Management framework. Challenges such as miscommunication, technical difficulties, and heavy workloads were addressed through system adjustments, mentoring, and curriculum improvements. The program has proven to contribute significantly to participants’ readiness to become adaptive beginner exporters in global markets. Furthermore, collaboration with local MSMEs and the use of digital technology strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian products. This study recommends enhancing mentor communication systems, expanding access to technology, and implementing continuous evaluation to support the acceleration of producing 500,000 new exporters by 2030.

Abstract

This community service aims to educate the students at MTs Negeri 1 Morotai about English paragraph writing in four English class meetings conducted twice a week. 14 eighth grader junior high school students participated throughout the whole program. The activity applied lecture and game as the teaching method with one pre-test and one post-test. The topics during four meetings included vocabulary building, sentence writing, and paragraph writing. The game integrated cards with English words with five categories such as subject, predicate, object, complement, and connectors. The result shows (1) Overall, the students experienced increased scores from the Pre-Test to Post-Test (2) More specifically, half of the participants successfully answered half of the questions right during the Post-Test (3) Furthermore, the participants of the community service shows comprehension on vocabulary building, sentence writing, and paragraph writing. However, creating new sentences and a new paragraph are still considered challenging. For the word level questions, students showed maximum pre-test scores 10/10 and 5/10 increased into post-test scores 10/10 and 9/10. While for the sentence level questions revealed maximum pre-test scores 3/5 into 5/5. In contrast, paragraph level questions are mostly left unaswered for both pre-test and post-test. In other words, the English paragraph writing community service meets the expectation and is successful to some extent.

Abstract

Personal branding and public speaking training at Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Office (DPMPTSP) of the Banjar Regency is to provide increased understanding and practical knowledge to employees about the importance of the training material in realizing excellent service to the community. The trainers are the community service team and ersonal branding and public speaking practitioners. The number of participants in the activity is 25 people. The implementation of the activity is carried out using presentation, discussion and simulation methods. The activities are implementation of pre-tests, provision of materials, and evaluation with post-tests. The training materials include practical theories and practices of personal branding and public speaking. The results of the pre-test and post-test were tested using the t-test and N-Gain. The results of the t-test (p<0.05) showed a significant increase in the knowledge of training participants and the results of the N-Gain test (0.72) showed that the implementation of the training was quite effective.

Abstract

The fourth industrial revolution has brought about significant changes in all fields, including the financial sector. Personal finance management involves various aspects, including: 1). Budget planning (budgeting): Developing a plan for expenses and income on a regular basis. 2). Expenditure control: Regulating consumption patterns so as not to exceed income. 3). Saving and investment: Setting aside a portion of income for future needs or increasing asset value. 4). Debt management: Avoiding and/or managing debt so that it remains within repayment limits. 5). Long-term financial planning: Setting financial goals such as education, home, retirement, or emergency fund. The main goal of personal financial management is for individuals to achieve financial stability, avoid unnecessary financial risks, and have a more financially prosperous life.The implementation of community service goes well, this can be seen from the results of the completion of assignments by training participants to record personal finances using Microsoft excel and the implementation of excel formulas that can facilitate training participants in calculating the final balance. It is hoped that after this training participants can implement personal finance and financial records to be more structured and well recorded so that training participants can plan finances for a better future.

Abstract

This Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat) aims to enhance the understanding and adoption of financial technology (fintech) among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Samarinda City. Advances in fintech, such as digital wallets, peer-to-peer lending, and digital payments, offer significant potential to improve capital access, operational efficiency, and expand MSMEs' market reach. However, varying digital and financial literacy often becomes a primary obstacle to utilizing these innovations. Using a qualitative approach, this study involves in-depth interviews with several MSME actors across various sectors. The data collected includes their perceptions of fintech's benefits and risks, usage experiences, and encountered challenges, such as data security issues and interface complexity. The results of this Community Service are expected to provide a comprehensive overview of the fintech understanding profile of Samarinda's MSMEs. Strategic recommendations will be formulated for local governments, financial institutions, and fintech service providers to design more relevant and inclusive educational programs, aiming to foster sustainable digital financial inclusion within the MSME sector.
