Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of local communities in managing guesthouses based on local wisdom as part of a sustainable and environmentally friendly hospitality industry development strategy. The program was conducted in Melinggih Kelod Village, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency, an area renowned for its rich cultural and natural potential yet still facing challenges in the professional and ethical management of tourism accommodations. A total of 30 participants, consisting of local business actors and community members, took part in a series of socialization and training sessions. The training materials covered fundamental principles of sustainable tourism, cultural preservation strategies in tourism services, the integration of local values into guest service practices, and digital marketing techniques based on cultural content and authentic experiences. The method used a participatory approach involving case studies, simulations, and field-based mentoring. The results indicated that the community possesses strong potential to develop culturally and environmentally based guesthouses, provided that capacity building through practical training is offered. These findings are supported by several theories, including Community-Based Tourism (CBT), which emphasizes active community participation; Cultural Capital, which highlights the value of cultural assets as economic resources; and the Triple Bottom Line framework, which balances economic, social, and environmental aspects. This approach enables the development of competitive local guesthouse businesses while contributing to cultural preservation and sustainable development.

Abstract

This community service aims to actualize the values ​​of the Qur'an through the Musabaqoh Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) activity to form a young generation with insight and quality. This community service uses descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach. The subjects of community service are 85 participants. Data collection techniques in this community service are observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses triangulation. From the community service, it can be concluded that the increase in the actualization of the Qur'an through the MTQ activity in Sosokan Village, Ulu Rawas District, Muratara Regency went well during the activity. With three main activities that have been well organized, namely preparation activities, implementation activities, and evaluation activities. The implementation method used is increasing community knowledge by holding MTQ activities by combining lectures, training, and competitions to increase love and understanding of the Qur'an. The inhibiting factors are the lack of follow-up coaching programs after the MTQ is completed, the limited number of competent coaches, and the lack of supporting facilities. The supporting factors are the support of religious and community leaders, motivation and enthusiasm of participants in participating in MTQ activities, and routine coaching. Recommendations for further researchers are to provide broader insight into how MTQ is not only a competition event, but also a medium to build Islamic awareness and strengthen the values ​​of the Qur'an in everyday life.

Abstract

Community service activities will be conducted by conducting a series of digital marketing socializations for MSME actors in the Catholic University of Santo Thomas environment. This socialization activity aims to provide digital marketing information related to digital media, get to know the types of content and the concept of digital marketing content and provide tips for creating digital marketing content. This socialization activity aimed to gather the profiles of MSME actors within the Catholic University of Santo Thomas environment. The preparations for this socialization activity were to prepare socialization materials and questionnaire instruments; the questionnaire consisted of five questions identifying the personal data of MSME actors and five questions for MSME business data. The research team tested the questionnaire instrument for this socialization activity, achieving an average correlation value greater than 0.3 and The research team tested the questionnaire instrument for this socialization activity, achieving an average correlation value greater than 0.3 and a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.753, which is above the acceptable threshold of 0.5. Therefore, they declared the questionnaire valid and reliable. This socialization activity resulted in 56 MSME actors in the Catholic University of Santo Thomas environment, of which 34 were food MSME actors, 9 were beverage MSME actors, 12 were Printing actors and 1 Laundry MSME actor. The UMKM actors who participated in this activity were 33.9% of the total number of UMKM actors at Santo Thomas Catholic University, and 89.5% stated that they were willing to receive UMKM assistance.

Abstract

In the world of education, the role of teacher personality competence in the formation of generation Z character is closely related. This article analyzes the role of teacher personality competence in the character building of Generation Z, especially in facing the impact of rapid technological development. This study uses library research methods by collecting data from various academic sources, such as journals, books, scientific articles, and previous research reports. The results show that teachers' personal competence has a very important influence in shaping the characteristics of generation Z, which include characteristics such as figital, hyper-customization, realism, pragmatic, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), DIY (Do It Yourself), and weconomist. The research also identified several challenges faced by teachers, such as students' divided attention, changes in learning methods, moral degradation, and lack of literacy. To overcome this, several strategies were proposed, such as the role of the teacher as a facilitator, integrating character education, developing soft skills, implementing project-based learning (PBL), and encouraging active student collaboration. This research is expected to provide new insights for educators in overcoming the challenges of generation Z character building.

Abstract

Shadow teachers are educators tasked with supporting pupils with special needs in the classroom, who inherently have distinct requirements compared to their typically developing peers. Enhancements in shadow teachers’ competences are essential, particularly to better serve students with special needs and to foster self-management skills through a constructive approach. The program aims to enhance the abilities of special assistant instructors through training in positive discipline and self-management (DOLAR). Training has been administered to 34 shadow teachers across elementary, junior high, and high school levels. Three topics were provided by the three team members: positive discipline, emotional regulation, and stress management. Following the conduct of the community service, it was found that 82% of participants possessed a substantial understanding of the subject provided. Seventy-six percent of the total participants deemed the supplied content valuable, while seventy-one percent believed it could be implemented in teaching and learning activities. Participants in community service perceived the time allocated for the topic and the question-and-answer session as insufficient. Additional community service is anticipated to offer comparable training to educators for an extended period.

Abstract

The condition of individuals with special needs (IBK) has been quite neglected, especially in terms of psychological and physical well-being. The lack of involvement of experts or professionals in terms of psychological assessment in IBK is one of the inhibiting factors related to psychological well-being and career preparation in IBK. Currently, not all IBK have an understanding of the basic abilities (intelligence and personality) that they have, so that they can be used as preparation for their careers. The purpose of this community service is to conduct a Psychological Assessment of Disabled Workers: Efforts to Align Basic Potential and Career Projections of Disabled Workers. The method used is Community Based Research, with the stages of laying the foundation, planning, data collection and analysis, and action on findings. Through this community service activity, results were obtained from 20 participants, 6 participants had IQ at the Defective level, 2 participants with below average IQ, 6 participants with average IQ, 5 participants with above average IQ and 1 participant with superior IQ. In addition, the results of the participants' personalities were also found to be quite diverse, ranging from typical participants who are easily stressed when facing pressure at work, to typical participants who are quite flexible with existing challenges. The results of the service also describe job recommendations for each participant as a future career projection for the participants.

Abstract

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) serves as a key competency assessment, yet many teachers struggle with its format and effective answering strategies. This issue is particularly prominent at SMA Muhammadiyah 13 Tomang, where a significant number of teachers face challenges in preparing students for this exam due to limited exposure to effective test strategies. This study aims to improve teachers' competence through interactive TOEFL strategy training. A mixed-method approach was employed, integrating quantitative and qualitative analysis. Pre-test and post-test measured score improvements, while interviews, observations, and open-ended questionnaires explored participants’ challenges and strategy effectiveness. The three-day training covered Reading, Listening, and Structure sessions, applying skimming, scanning, note-taking, and sentence structure analysis strategies. Results showed improved comprehension in Reading (+19%), Listening (+14%), and Structure (+10%). A paired t-test confirmed a significant increase (p < 0.05). Qualitative findings highlighted that skimming and note-taking were more effective than traditional methods, although grammar comprehension remained a challenge. Beyond improving TOEFL scores, this training enhances English teaching methodologies in schools. Teachers are expected to implement the acquired strategies in classrooms and support students' TOEFL preparation. This study confirms that the mixed-method approach provides a comprehensive understanding of learning strategy effectiveness in enhancing educators’ English proficiency.

Abstract

Community Service (PkM) activities as out-of-class learning in political life that is directly related to society. In Indonesia, the formation of national law is an integral part of the legal development process and Indonesia continues to strive to formulate a national legal system to replace the colonial legacy. The integration of various legal systems does not always run smoothly, in line with that the purpose of this writing is to find out the main challenges in the process of forming Indonesian national law, to find out the role of legislative institutions and public participation in forming responsive and just national law, as well as the hopes and strategies developed to realize the national legal system. The approach as a continuation of PkM activities is a normative legal review, namely a discussion that examines legal materials related to the formation of a national legal system. In efforts to form national law, challenges were found in harmonization, legal certainty, and legitimacy of the resulting legal products, weak legislative processes, overlapping regulations, and the influence of legal globalization. This is further exacerbated by the lack of public participation in the process of forming law, as well as limited human resources in law-making institutions. Great hopes for the renewal of national law towards a more democratic, responsive, and Pancasila-based direction. So it is necessary to codify the law, strengthen the legislative system, and national legal grand design.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to improve leadership and public speaking skills based on English literacy among members of Forum Cinta Muda Kota Medan. The activity was initiated in response to the limited ability of forum members to lead and communicate in public, particularly in English, which hampers their participation in both local and international forums. The program was conducted over two days using a participatory-educative method, involving participants actively through material delivery, practice sessions, simulations, and evaluations. The training materials included fundamental concepts of leadership, public speaking, the relationship between both skills, and presentation techniques in English. Participant abilities were evaluated through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The analysis results showed a significant improvement in participant abilities, with an average N-gain score of 0.72, categorized as high. This improvement was evident in aspects such as knowledge of leadership principles, public speaking concepts, presentation stages, and confidence in delivering ideas in English. The program’s impact extends not only to individual participants but also strengthens the organizational capacity of Forum Cinta Muda in addressing global communication challenges. For sustainability, it is recommended to hold regular classes, internal competitions, and establish collaborations with English-speaking communities and related networks.

Abstract

Legal counselling is one of the effective methods to increase public legal awareness. Legal counselling through mass media, and community field counselling. The legal counselling activity on the Role of Suka Makmur Village Government in Preventing Drug Abuse was held through direct/face-to-face counselling to the people of Suka Makmur Village conducted by a team of lecturers from the Law Study Program of Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) Medan Campus. Drug abuse in Indonesia is a serious problem that threatens social stability and community welfare, especially in rural areas. The village government has an important role in preventing drug abuse through legal policies, local regulations, and collaboration with various parties through community-based programmes. This community counselling activity aims to find out the role of the Suka Makmur village government in preventing drug abuse and examine the legal basis that supports these efforts. Through a communicative approach and easy-to-understand language, this programme is expected to build collective awareness and encourage active community participation in supporting strict law enforcement efforts on drug crimes.
