Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of sand play on the psychomotor development of 1-year-old children. Playing in the sand is believed to stimulate gross and fine motor skills through multisensory activities that involve object manipulation and body movements. With a qualitative approach, this study uses a direct observation method on 30 1-year-old children while playing in the sand. Activities such as digging and moving sand are evaluated for gross motor, while pinching and shaping sand is evaluated for fine motor. The results showed that sand play contributed significantly to children's motor coordination, concentration, and sensory exploration. These findings support the theory of child development which emphasizes the importance of multisensory stimulation in supporting motor growth. In addition to the physical benefits, the study also found that playing sand supports children's social, emotional, and cognitive development, such as interaction skills, logical thinking, and creativity. This study recommends parents and educators to utilize sand play as part of child development stimulation by paying attention to safety and hygiene aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of democratic parenting on the learning independence of fifth-grade students at SDN 001 Samarinda. The learning independence of students is significantly influenced by their environment, particularly by the parenting style, which can positively affect the development of independent learning attitudes in children. This research uses a quantitative method with simple regression analysis to examine the relationship between democratic parenting and students' learning independence. Data were collected through the learning independence scale and the Parental Authority Questionnaire Revised (PAQ-R) scale, which was adapted into Indonesian. The results show that democratic parenting has a positive effect on learning independence, with students who experience high levels of democratic parenting demonstrating better learning independence. Conversely, low levels of democratic parenting are associated with lower learning independence. This study concludes that democratic parenting can enhance students' learning independence and highlights the importance of parents adopting a democratic parenting style to support the development of their children's learning independence.

Abstract

This study aims to describe resilience in caregivers of families with members suffering from schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that affects thought processes and behavior, requiring intensive support from families as caregivers. However, families often face significant burdens, including emotional, social, and economic challenges, which demand strategies and strength to overcome emerging crises. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach, involving three caregivers living with family members diagnosed with schizophrenia in Bogor. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations, then analyzed using thematic analysis. The results reveal that caregivers exhibit strong resilience in addressing various challenges. Strategies include religious approaches, such as drawing closer to God, receiving support from extended family, and adopting behavioral changes to enhance the quality of care. Additionally, they demonstrated optimism, effectively analyzed the root causes of issues, and leveraged social support as a resource for overcoming difficulties. The study concludes that resilience is a crucial factor in supporting the care process for individuals with schizophrenia and helps caregivers manage challenges more effectively. The implications of this research suggest the need for strengthening resilience factors through psychosocial interventions, community support, and family-based mental health services.

Abstract

The prolonged and complex conflict in Aceh has left significant impacts on the community, particularly on the victims who endured violence and fear. This study aims to explore the psychological effects experienced by the victims of the GAM (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka) and Indonesian government conflict, and to understand how these effects persist to this day. Utilizing a qualitative narrative approach with a biographical type, this research involves an interview with a victim who directly experienced violence during the conflict. The findings reveal that psychological trauma, such as fear of gunfire, explosions, and objects associated with the conflict, remains deeply ingrained in the victims memory. Even the sound of fireworks and firecrackers triggers anxiety, and daily activities, such as frying fish, become challenging due to the popping sounds reminiscent of past violence. The implications of this research highlight the importance of addressing psychological trauma for conflict victims, as well as the need for policies focused on psychosocial recovery. Sustainable solutions must continue to be developed to support recovery and peace in Aceh and to prevent long-term effects for future generations.

Abstract

Domestic violence (DV) against women is a form of abuse that has severe physical and psychological consequences for victims. This study aims to explore the experiences of DV victims in Binjai, North Sumatra, and the psychological and physical impacts they endure. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subject of this study is a female DV victim who shared her experiences of violence inflicted by her husband, resulting in physical, psychological, and social changes in her daily life. The findings indicate that the victim suffers from psychological trauma, including anxiety, fear, and sleep disturbances, as well as physical effects such as bruises and hair loss. The violence also leads to decreased social interaction, causing the victim to become isolated from her surroundings. This study highlights the importance of women's empowerment, social support, and medical assistance for DV victims, as well as the need for intervention from authorities and relevant institutions to protect women's rights. The study's implications emphasize the necessity of both preventive and curative measures against DV cases and greater attention to women's protection within households.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the differences in the decision-making process between male and female respondents in dealing with the silariang incident, as well as to analyze the factors influencing their decisions. In this research, two respondents, namely respondent HT (male) and respondent DK (female), were the main focus to understand the differences in thinking styles and decision-making processes. The research method employed was a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis, including in-depth interviews to explore the respondents' decision-making process. The results show that respondent HT adopts a perfect rational thinking model, making decisions quickly and logically, while respondent DK is more emotional, takes more time, and makes impulsive decisions. Despite these differences, both respondents ultimately made the same decision, which was to give their blessing to their child who was involved in silariang. This decision was considered the best option, taking into account the child's happiness and maintaining family harmony. This study also highlights the importance of self-reflection in parental decision-making and the impact of thinking styles and gender on the decision-making process. The implications of this research suggest that, in emotionally charged situations, a more rational and critical decision-making approach can help parents face challenges more thoughtfully.

Abstract

Body shame is shame on body image which involves a person's negative perception of a body shape or appearance that is considered unattractive by others and places himself in an unwanted position in the social environment. Body shame results in the emergence of social anxiety effects such as feeling embarrassed or doubtful in front of other people, feeling very afraid or worried that others will judge negatively or reject, and avoiding places where there are crowded people. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between body shame and social anxiety in emerging adulthood. Respondents were obtained by using an online questionnaire with as many as 236 respondents with a non-probability sampling technique. Furthermore, body shame was measured by using the Body Image Shame Scale (BISS). Social Anxiety was measured by using the Social Avoidance Distress Scale (SADS). Meanwhile, the research data were analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation test. The result of the correlation value (r) is 0.656 with significance (p) of 0.000. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between body shame and social anxiety in women in emerging adulthood.

Abstract

Entering the phase of adulthood requires gradual independence and preparation. College students, as early adults, are expected to take on responsibilities, become more independent, build intimate relationships, enhance friendship commitments, and tackle challenges without relying on their parents. However, many students still lack mental readiness due to a lack of independence. Therefore, this research aims to develop the PLANE independent life skills measurement tool, which can assess the level of independence among college students in managing their lives autonomously. The participants were 212 students, comprising 71.2% females and 28.8% males, with an average age of 19.84 years (SD = 1.26). The research employed a quantitative method, testing person fit and item fit using the Winstep application and Jeffreys Amazing Statistics Program (JASP). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Based on the research findings, the instrument demonstrated high reliability (α = 0.73), making it suitable for use, and high validity (p > 0.3), indicating the instrument's appropriate construct.
