Abstract

Body Mass Index (BMI), total cholesterol levels, and blood pressure are important indicators in evaluating metabolic health status. These factors are interconnected and collectively influence the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. This study analyzed the relationship between BMI, total cholesterol levels, and blood pressure among workers in Indralaya, Indonesia. Using a cross-sectional design, the study involved 30 purposively selected respondents. Data were collected through interviews, measurements of height and weight, total cholesterol examination, and blood pressure assessment. Data analysis was performed using Pearson correlation and linear regression. The results indicated a tendency for an association between BMI and blood pressure, although not statistically significant. Total cholesterol levels were not significantly associated with blood pressure. Regression analysis revealed that BMI contributed more strongly than blood pressure values. From a biomedical dietetic perspective, obesity has the potential to increase the risk of hypertension and dyslipidemia through mechanisms involving inflammation, insulin resistance, and atherosclerosis. Dietary interventions, such as balanced nutrition, limitation of saturated fats, and increased fiber intake, are recommended to reduce cardiometabolic risks.

Abstract

Hospitalization is often a stressful experience for preschool children, frequently leading to elevated anxiety due to separation from caregivers, unfamiliar medical environments, and invasive procedures. Storytelling, as a developmentally appropriate and therapeutic communication method, offers a promising approach for pediatric nurses to reduce emotional distress in young patients. This study aimed to develop a storytelling module as a pediatric nursing intervention to reduce hospitalization anxiety in preschool-aged children. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was employed using the Borg and Gall model. The study was conducted from April to June 2024 at Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital, Palembang. The development process involved a literature review, expert validation by pediatric nurses, child psychologists, and linguists, module drafting, and limited field testing. The participants included 20 hospitalized children aged 3–6 years and five pediatric nurses. Anxiety levels were measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-C) before and after the intervention, with descriptive analysis used to assess outcomes. The finalized module comprised six storytelling themes, colorful visual aids, and structured nursing guidelines designed to address common sources of hospitalization anxiety in preschoolers. Expert validation yielded a high Content Validity Index (CVI = 0.91), and field testing demonstrated a clear reduction in children’s anxiety scores post-intervention. The storytelling module is a culturally relevant, feasible, and effective pediatric nursing tool to reduce hospitalization anxiety in preschool children.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) and emotional intelligence on the psychological well-being of healthcare workers with spiritual intelligence as a mediator variable. The study used a quantitative approach with a sample of 187 healthcare workers at RSUD Beriman Balikpapan selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the OCB scale, emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, and psychological well-being. Data analysis used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS. The results showed that OCB had a positive and significant effect on psychological well-being (β = 0.151; t = 2.063; p = 0.039), as did emotional intelligence (β = 0.437; t = 5.428; p = 0.000). OCB and emotional intelligence also had positive effects on spiritual intelligence (β = 0.414; t = 5.989; p = 0.000; and β = 0.429; t = 6.411; p = 0.000). Spiritual intelligence positively affected psychological well-being (β = 0.280; t = 3.112; p = 0.002). Spiritual intelligence was shown to mediate the influence of OCB (β = 0.116; t = 3.058; p = 0.002) and emotional intelligence (β = 0.120; t = 2.572; p = 0.010) on psychological well-being. These findings underscore the importance of managing organizational behavior and emotional-spiritual capacity to improve the psychological well-being of hospital healthcare workers.

Abstract

Menarche, or a girl’s first menstrual period, is a significant milestone in adolescent development. However, for many young girls, this event is accompanied by anxiety, fear, and confusion due to a lack of appropriate education and open discussion. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the educational comic book "Happy to Welcome Menarche" as a media tool to reduce anxiety and improve understanding of menstruation among girls aged 9–12. The research utilized a pre-posttest design with a sample of elementary school students. Results showed a significant decrease in anxiety levels after reading the comic, with average scores dropping from 3.8 to 2.4 on a 5-point Likert scale (p-value = 0.001). The comic was praised for its engaging visuals, simple language, and relatable narrative, which together made complex topics easier to understand. In addition to its educational impact, a structured marketing strategy using social media, school collaborations, and health institutions was found to be effective in reaching the target audience. This study demonstrates that educational comics are a powerful, child-friendly medium for delivering reproductive health education and reducing psychological distress related to menarche.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional phase of self-discovery and lifestyle adjustments that can cause stress. Mentally healthy adolescents are those who are able to cope with life's pressures, be productive, and contribute to their communities. According to the 2024 I-NAMHS survey, 15.5-2.45 million adolescents have mental health problems, with the highest prevalence being 14 years old (75%). Mental health problems in adolescents, such as stress and anxiety, can hinder physical activity and quality. Mental health is crucial for adolescents, with psychoeducation to build a strong mental character, one of which is through peer counselors. The Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) method as an educational medium has proven to be effective in addressing adolescent mental health issues. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of peers using the SEFT method approach on adolescent mental health. The method used was a Quasi-Experimental Design with a Pretest Posttest Control Group design. The results showed a significant influence of the SEFT method by peers on improving the emotional mental state of adolescents in the depression category with a t-test p value of 0.015, while in the anxiety and stress problem categories there was no influence of the SEFT method given by peers. The approach of those closest to them with continuous education through beneficial spiritual methods has an impact on the continuation of a generation of mentally and physically healthy adolescents.

Abstract

This study presents the development of a web-based educational platform leveraging a large language model (LLM) to provide general information on diseases and medications. The platform integrates a curated database of diseases and drugs with the LLM via retrieval-augmented generation. When users enter a disease or drug name, the system retrieves relevant data and uses it as context for the LLM to produce concise responses in a friendly, accessible style. The application is built using native PHP with a MySQL backend and Bootstrap for responsive design. Safety features such as a mandatory disclaimer and filters for emergency conditions ensure that the chatbot does not offer diagnostic or prescriptive advice. Expert reviews indicated that the model-generated content aligned well with the database, and user testing showed high satisfaction with clarity and usability. These results demonstrate that combining structured medical data with a modern LLM can improve public access to reliable health education while maintaining ethical boundaries.

Abstract

This study developed and applied a multimodal Transformer model for student anxiety screening through video analysis of short interviews that included facial expressions, speech, and numerical data. Student anxiety is a problem that often affects mental health and academic performance, so early detection is important. The model combines three main data sources: facial expression features, speech analysis (including speech speed, intonation, and negative word count), and demographic information. The data used came from 500 students who participated in interviews lasting 20-40 seconds. The multimodal Transformer model was trained to classify anxiety levels into low, medium, and high categories, with evaluation using accuracy, precision, and recall metrics. The results showed that this model had a prediction accuracy of 88%, with a significant correlation between facial expressions and negative word counts on anxiety levels. Compared to the linear regression model used for comparison, the multimodal Transformer model shows better performance in detecting anxiety. These findings indicate that a multimodal approach using AI technology can improve accuracy and efficiency in student anxiety screening. This research opens up opportunities for the development of a more objective, non-invasive, and efficient video-based automated screening system, with potential applications in the field of mental health in higher education.

Abstract

Mental health services in Indonesia face significant challenges in coordination between agencies, including mental hospitals, community health centers (Puskesmas), and private institutions. Lack of data integration, limited communication, and low technology utilization hinder service effectiveness. This study aims to explore the need for technology to improve mental health service coordination and identify solutions that can address these challenges. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study involved healthcare workers from mental hospitals, community health centers, and private institutions in the provinces of South Sumatra, Lampung, and Jakarta. The results indicate that the implementation of a technology-based integrated information system, telemedicine applications, and intensive training for healthcare workers are key desired solutions. Furthermore, improving inter-agency communication and providing adequate technological infrastructure are also considered important. These findings align with health information systems theory and technology accessibility theory, which suggest that technology can improve coordination and access to services. Despite limitations in terms of sample size and perspective, this study provides important insights into the application of technology in mental health services in Indonesia and suggests solutions to improve the effectiveness of coordination within the mental health service system.

Abstract

Quranic counseling is a counseling method applied to problem-solving using an approach based on the Quran. According to Erhamwilda, the fundamental teachings of Islam are the Quran and Hadith, which need to be explored critically to apply the basic counseling concepts contained therein professionally. This activity was conducted at the Hj. Saidatunnisa Pre-School of Postpartum Care (PMB Hj. Saidatunnisa), located in Banjarmasin City. The purpose of this activity was to determine the effectiveness of Quranic counseling in reducing and improving the psychological health of postpartum mothers. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was drawn through purposive sampling, with 22 postpartum mothers. Data collection used a questionnaire on improving the psychological health of postpartum mothers. Data analysis involved grouping data based on sample variables, presenting data for each variable studied, and performing calculations to answer the research questions. The results showed that Quranic counseling was effective in reducing and improving the psychological health of postpartum mothers. Prior to Quranic counseling, many postpartum mothers experienced anxiety and mild depression related to their condition during childbirth. After undergoing Quranic counseling, all postpartum mothers felt calmer and were able to accept their own and their families' circumstances and were ready to face all possible eventualities.
