Jurnal Bastra (Bahasa dan Sastra)
JOURNAL BASTRA (Language and Literature) is a publicly accessible journal published by the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Halu Oleo University. This journal is published four times a year, every January, April, July, and October. This journal contains the results of research (field or literature studies), theoretical studies, and critical studies covering several areas of study as follows. Indonesian language education includes studies on linguistic learning, phonology learning, morphology learning, syntax learning, semantic learning, pragmatics learning, discourse learning, sociolinguistic learning, and psycholinguistic learning. Indonesian literature education includes studies on poetry learning, fiction prose learning, and drama and film learning. Indonesian, includes studies on linguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics. Indonesian literature includes studies on poetry, prose fiction, drama, and film with a structural approach, stylistics, semiotics, sociology of literature, psychology of literature, psychoanalysis, literary ecology, deconstruction, philology, phenomenology, feminism, literary reception, and literary anthropology.

This study aims to analyze the factors of students' learning difficulties in learning to write short stories in class IX of SMP Negeri 1 Kusambi, West Muna Regency. The research method used is a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study were class IX who had difficulty in writing short stories. The instruments used to collect data were questionnaires and interviews. Based on the results of the study with reference to several internal factors, it shows that the cognitive aspect is the main obstacle, where around 74.7% of students have difficulty understanding the structure of short stories (for example, plot and setting) and 78.1% of students admit to having difficulty in mastering vocabulary. In addition, affective factors such as low learning motivation (68.9%) and lack of self-confidence (64.4%) also contribute to the difficulty of writing short stories. Meanwhile, the psychomotor aspect, which includes writing skills and motor skills in writing, also shows obstacles, although the percentage is relatively lower when compared to cognitive and effective factors. External factors from the external side, family environmental support, although still low (inadequate learning facilities at home around 59.8%) also influence the process of learning to write short stories. The social environment that does not support literacy activities in the surrounding area is also an obstacle. In the school environment, less interesting learning methods (71.2% of students) and unsupportive school facilities (65.5% of students) further worsen the condition. Furthermore, teachers who provide less writing practice (77.0% of students) indicate that opportunities for structured writing practice are still minimal.

This study aims to analyze simple sentences in the short story entitled Pesan dari Seorang yang Bernama Presiden by Muhammad Ramadhan Batubara, published on the online platform ruangsastra.com. The main focus of this research is to identify the types of simple sentences used in the short story and to analyze their syntactic structures based on the functional categories of subject, predicate, object, complement, and adverbial. The method employed in this study is descriptive qualitative, using techniques to identify sentences that meet the criteria of simple sentences. The results of the research show that the short story features simple sentences with verbal predicates, nominal predicates, and adjectival phrase predicates, exhibiting structural variations that reflect the author's distinctive narrative style. These simple sentences function not only to convey the plot but also to depict the psychological atmosphere of the characters and to build the paradoxical nuance surrounding the mysterious figure of the "President." Furthermore, the use of simple sentences enhances the story’s clarity and assertiveness in delivering its messages. This research contributes to syntactic studies in modern literary works, particularly within the context of Indonesian language education and the development of sentence structure analysis in narrative texts.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan karakteristik generasi milenial yang terdapat dalam novel Jakarta Sebelum Pagi karya Ziggy Zezsyazeovinnazabrizkie dan menganalisis relevansinya sebagai bahan ajar di Kelas XII Sekolah Menengah Atas. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis deskriptif. Data dalam penelitian berupa kutipan-kutipan dalam novel yang menyajikan potret karakteristik generasi milenial. Temuan data tersebut kemudian diklasifikasikan ke dalam empat aspek, yaitu: kehidupan instan, berorientasi teknologi, bahasa milenial, dan berpikir kritis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 63 data yang menyajikan karakteristik generasi milenial dengan rincian sebagai berikut: aspek kehidupan instan (19%), aspek berorientasi teknologi (20,6%), aspek bahasa milenial (33,3%), dan berpikir kritis (26,9%). Dalam novel Jakarta Sebelum Pagi mengandung realitas yang kuat, salah satunya menceritakan realitas sebuah kehidupan. Novel tersebut memberikan potret generasi milenial melalui tokoh utamanya Emina. Dalam novel tersebut, Emina digambarkan sebagai wanita milenial yang hidupnya hanya diisi dengan bekerja di kantor dengan keunikannya sendiri. Kehidupannya terbilang biasa saja seperti generasi milenial lainnya, tidak ada yang istimewa kecuali sifatnya yang nyentrik yang membuat hari-harinya lebih dari biasa. Novel ini sangat relevan untuk dijadikan bahan ajar sastra di kelas XII SMA karena mengangkat generasi milenial dengan beberapa faktor, yaitu bahasa, penggunaan internet, berpikir kritis dan juga kehidupan instan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

This classroom action research aimed to improve the ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Alasa in identifying intrinsic elements of modern poetry through the application of the Inquiry learning model. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, tests, field notes, and documentation, and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ performance. In the first cycle, the students’ average score was only 57.52, with most students categorized as “poor.” After revisions in the second cycle, the average score increased significantly to 89.22, with the majority reaching the “very good” category. Students also showed greater enthusiasm, activeness, and creativity in identifying themes, diction, imagery, figures of speech, rhyme, and messages in poetry. The results indicate that the Inquiry model is not only effective in enhancing cognitive skills but also in fostering students’ motivation, participation, and creativity. Therefore, Inquiry can be considered an effective instructional model for teaching Indonesian language and literature, particularly in the development of poetry appreciation and analysis skills

This study aims to describe the psychological aspects of the characters in the novel Serangkai by Valerie Patkar through the lens of Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. The analysis focuses on the three components of personality structure: the id, ego, and superego. This is a qualitative descriptive study using a library research design. The primary data source is the novel Serangkai, published by Bhuana Ilmu Populer in 2021, consisting of 400 pages. The study adopts a literary psychology approach, emphasizing the internal psychological conditions of the characters as reflected in the narrative, without involving the author's background or readers’ responses. Data were collected through content analysis by identifying and interpreting textual evidence that reflects the dynamics of the id, ego, and superego based on Freud’s theory. The findings reveal that the characters in Serangkai undergo complex internal conflicts resulting from the interaction among their instinctual drives (id), rational thinking (ego), and moral conscience (superego). These psychological dynamics significantly influence their behaviors and decisions throughout the story.

This study aims to describe the image of women in the novel Heartbreak Motel by Ika Natassa. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive method. The data source in this study is the novel Heartbreak Motel by Ika Natassa published by GM Pustaka Utama Publishing Agency on April 8, 2022, consisting of 400 pages. This study focuses on the image of women put forward by Sugihastuti in the novel Heartbreak Motel. The data collection techniques. Based on the results of the study, the image of women in the novel Heartbreak Motel is a woman’s self-image and also a woman’s social image. Physically, Ava is depicted as a very fragile, attractive woman, long-haired, beautiful and has an ideal body. Psychologically, Ava is depicted as an emotional, sensitive person, tends to be interverted and keeps her feelings to herself. In her family, Ava is depicted as a child who lovers her mother, being an obedient woman despite being treated badly by her boyfreind. Society’s view of her is sometimes negative when she chooses to break up with her actor boyfriend so that she is considered a social climber by netizens. Based on this, it can be concluded that the social image pf women significantly influences the main character’s self-image. It’s clear that every trauma Ava experienced in her past has mae her a more withdrawn person, preferring to keep her feelings to herself.

The research aims to study the figure of speech used in Donny Dhirgantoro’s novel, 5 Cm. The purpose of this research is to describe the types of figure of speech and the definition according to the context of Donny Dhirgantoro’s 5 Cm and its implementation of literature study for students in high school. The research is qualitative. The descriptive method used in order to obtain the description of language style. Based on the result of data analysis, it can be concluded that: (1) there are four figures of speech discovered, namely similarity, contrast, association, and repetition. The total number of figures of speech is 72. Similarity consists of 12 personifications, 13 similes, 13 metaphors; contrast has 5 hyperboles, 1 litotes, 3 antithesis; association has 3 metonymies, 1 synecdoche part pro toto, 10 synecdoche totem pro parte, 3 ellipsis; repetition consists of 1 antanaclasis, 6 repetitions, and 1 parallelism, (2) the meaning delivered through four figures of speech is varied since it depends on the context. However, the author used mostly tke personification figure of speech in order to make the story alive so that the readers will be willing be read the stories. The used of parable is the authot’s effort to create strong affection between two things compared in order to make the reader can be able to catchthe intended meanings of the author. Next, the used of metaphor figure of speech is the author’s efford to disguise the purpose of consideration for thar persong – the person in question did not feel offended, do not feel embarred or humiliated the public, and (3) the implementation of the novel of literature study for students in high school considers a) three important aspects, namely language, psychology, culture and b) syllabus, standard competence, basic competence and lesson plan.

Job application letters are very useful information in laying the foundation for understanding Indonesian and at the same time a strong foundation for the formation of students' scientific character. The research problem is "How is the ability of class XII students of SMK Negeri 1 Moramo in writing job application letters?" The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of class XII students of SMK Negeri 1 Moramo in writing job application letters. The instrument used in this study was writing a job application letter with three indicators as a reference, namely the systematic form of the letter, the suitability of the letter with EYD and the effectiveness of the letter sentences. The results of the study can be obtained information that from 35 respondents who were sampled in this study can be classified as follows, 29 respondents (94.28%) obtained the very capable category and 4 respondents (11.43%) obtained the capable category and 2 respondents (5.72%) obtained the less capable category. The highest category is the very capable category, so it can be concluded that the ability of class XII students of Moramo State Vocational School in writing job application letters in three aspects of ability is in the very capable category. It was concluded that on average the ability of class XII students of Moramo 1 State Vocational School in writing job application letters reached 82.31%. The average value is in the range of 65% - 84% with the capable criteria.

The purpose of writing this article is to identify forms of language use in song lyrics that represent women with negative images, as well as to reveal the meaning contained in the song lyrics. This research is descriptive qualitative research using note-taking and documentation techniques as the collection method. This research data was taken from three songs sung by women, namely the songs Tenang, Takut, and Tak Segampang Itu. The analytical method in the research used Sara Mills' Critical Discourse Analysis in the subject-object position and found depictions of women with negative images in the form of passivity, dependence, and dominance in the subject position. Where, women themselves tell or interpret the sad events, betrayal, feelings of pressure, domination that they experience. Meanwhile, men or powerful groups are in the position of the object or person being told. Even though they are positioned as objects, men or dominant groups are described as having great power, authority or influence over women.

The problem in this study is the Crisis of Language Civility Among Kpopers in the X / Twitter Application. This politeness crisis was studied to address the problem of decreasing the quality of polite language use, because people, especially young K-Pop fans, use less polite words as insert words used in everyday life when using social media. This study aims to determine and describe the crisis of language politeness among kpopers in the X / Twitter application. In this study, researchers used Leech's theory which consists of ten maxims of language politeness. The type of research used is a qualitative descriptive method. The source of data in this study is found on Kpopers in the X / Twitter application. The methods used to collect data are Listen, documentation, and record. Data analysis techniques use descriptive analytical techniques, then the data validity technique used is source triangulation. From the results of research on the crisis of language politeness in kpopers factories in the X / twitter application, 9 forms of language politeness maxims were found from 10 Leech language politeness maxims
