Abstract

HIV/AIDS causes many impacts on adolescents, which ultimately affect their families and communities. This happens due to ignorance and misinformation, resulting in poor perception and behavioral control among  adolescents. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between adolescents' perceptions  and their HIV/AIDS behavioral control. This study used quantitative methods with a cross sectional design. The sampling technique was accidental sampling, with 86 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-square test. The results of the study showed that the majority of adolescents' perceptions were in the good category (76.7%), the majority of behavioral control was in the good category (72.1%) and there was a significant relationship between adolescents' perceptions and HIV/AIDS behavioral control (p value = 0.001). Adolescents' perceptions are linked to their HIV/AIDS behavioral control. Positive perceptions will improve their HIV/AIDS behavioral control. Adolescents' perceptions can influence their behavioral control, so maximizing positive perceptions is crucial for behavioral control.

Abstract

Anxiety among patients’ families often occurred while waiting for medical treatment in the Emergency Department (ED). Several studies in Indonesia reported that more than 50% of patients’ families experienced moderate to severe levels of anxiety. One of the contributing factors was the response time of medical personnel in providing care. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between response time and the anxiety levels of patients’ families at the Emergency Department of RSI PKU Muhammadiyah Tegal. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design and a cross-sectional method was applied. A total of 96 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Data collection instruments included an observation sheet to measure response time and a questionnaire to assess anxiety levels. The results of the Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between response time and family anxiety (p-value = 0.000; X² = 96.000). These findings indicated that the faster the patient received treatment, the lower the level of anxiety experienced by the family. This study was expected to serve as input for hospital management to improve the service system by accelerating the response time of medical personnel in order to reduce the anxiety experienced by patients’ families in the Emergency Department.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that may lead to microvascular complication, including  diabetic nephropathy, which is characterized by proteinuria. Proteinuria serves as an early indicatot of kidney  damage in DM patients. Tea consumption patterns, particularly green and black tea, have attracted attention  due to their polyphenol content, which may provide protective effects on kidney function. This study aimed to  evaluate proteinuria status among diabetic patient with daily tea consumption habits. A descriptive cross sectional design was conducted on 51 DM patient at Bandung Primary Health Center, Tegal City (June-July  2025) who had been diagnosed with DM for at least five years, had a habit of drinking tea, and had no history of kidney stones. Data were collected using a questionnaire on respondents’ characteristics and tea  consumption habits, followed by urine protein examination. Data analysis was performed descrivtively using  frequency distribution. The results shows that the mean age of responden was 58,2 years, with the majority  being female (68,6%) and having lived with DM for 5-9 years ( 60,8%). Black tea was the most frequently  consumed type (86,7%), with more than five years consumption (84,3%) and two cups per day (41,2%) Proteinuria examination revealed 62,7% negative, 23,5% positive 1, 5,9% positive 2, and 7,3% positive 3. The majority of patients with long-term tea consumption had negative proteinuria results, indicating potensial protective effects on kidney function. However, the presence of 37,3% positive proteinuria suggest that other  factors such as glycemic control, duration of diabetes, and variations in the type and intake may still influence  the outcomes.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) was associated with urological complications, particularly Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS). LUTS included nocturia, urgency, frequency, decreased urine flow, incomplete bladder emptying, and incontinence, which could cause physical and psychological distress and reduce quality of life.  Early identification of LUTS in patients with DM was essential to prevent progression and improve symptom management. This descriptive study aimed to identify LUTS in DM patients in Tegal City. A total of 106  respondents with DM were selected through purposive sampling from the service areas of Tegal Timur, Bandung, Debong Lor, and Margadana public health centers. Data were collected through interviews using the LURN Symptom Index-29 (LURN SI-29). Descriptive statistics were applied to analyze mean, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum values. The findings revealed that the highest mean score was in Section E (Nocturia) with 65.89 (SD = 22.16), followed by Section D (Urgency) with 22.42 (SD = 22.66). The lowest  score was in Section B (Bladder Pain), with 7.02 (SD = 14.19). The total LURN SI-29 score had a mean of 19.15 (SD = 9.98), ranging from 5.70 to 53.30. In conclusion, nocturia was the most dominant symptom  experienced by DM patientsin Tegal City, followed by urgency. Meanwhile, bladder pain was relatively rarely reported. Overall, the total LUTS score indicated that most DM patients experienced lower urinary tract symptoms with varying levels of severity. Early detection of LUTS was recommended to help DM patients  recognize symptoms earlier and receive appropriate interventions.

Abstract

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis experience physical, psychological, and social changes that require strong adaptive capacity toward long-term therapy. Hemodialysis demands a high level of adherence to treatment, fluid restriction, and dietary regulation, which often leads to stress, dependence on others, and a decline in self-efficacy. In this context, family support serves as an external factor that can strengthen patients’ confidence in their ability to manage the treatment process. This study aims to examine the relationship between family support and self-efficacy among CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Kardinah General Hospital in Tegal City. The research employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach and involved 125 respondents selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires on family support and self-efficacy. Statistical analysis using the Spearman Rank test revealed that most respondents received good family support and demonstrated moderate to high levels of self-efficacy. A p-value of < 0.05 indicated a statistically significant relationship between family support and self-efficacy. These results highlight the essential role of family involvement in strengthening patients’ self-efficacy to optimize the success of hemodialysis therapy.

Abstract

The quality of life related to health can be affected by disease conditions, one of which is hypertension. Hypertension can reduce the quality of life due to the impact of the disease itself as well as the consequences of the treatment carried out. Elderly people who have a poor quality of life can have a negative impact on their physical and mental health. The quality of life of the elderly with hypertension is influenced by various factors, one of which is self-efficacy. Self-efficacy makes an important contribution to understanding the process of behavior change, where high self-efficacy makes individuals feel capable of taking the necessary actions. The study was conducted to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life in the elderly with hypertension and the characteristics of the elderly, namely age, gender, and family caring for the elderly. This study is an observational analytical study  with a bivariate Chi Square test. The sample in this study amounted to 106 elderly people who were selected using the Purposive Sampling method. Data was collected using questionnaires with instruments. Of the 106 elderly respondents in the Cakung Health Center area who became respondents, the results of the elderly who had high self-efficacy with the results of 65 (61.3%) were elderly, while the elderly who had low self-efficacy obtained results of 41 (38.7%). In addition, the results of the elderly who had a good quality of life were obtained with the results of 59 (55.7%) elderly people, while the elderly who had a poor quality of life with the results of 47 elderly people (44.3%). This study shows a meaningful relationship between self-efficacy and the quality of life of the elderly with hypertension (p=0.006). There is a meaningful relationship between self-efficacy and the quality of life of the elderly with hypertension.

Abstract

Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) is a psychological phenomenon commonly experienced by university students in the digital era, characterized by anxiety arising from the perception of being excluded from others’ social activities. One of the factors influencing the emergence of FoMO is self-esteem. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and FoMO among college students. This research used a quantitative method with a correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling, resulting in a total of 90 student respondents. The study was conducted from July to August 2025. Data were collected using self-esteem and FoMO questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results indicate a significant relationship between self-esteem and FoMO among students, with a correlation coefficient of 0.238 and a significance value (p-value) of 0.024 (p < 0.05). The positive direction of the relationship suggests that the higher the self-esteem, the lower the level of FoMO. However, the strength of the association falls within the weak category. In conclusion, there is a significant yet weak relationship between self-esteem and FoMO among the students. The researcher recommends that a student support and counseling unit to help monitor and improve students’ mental well-being.

Abstract

The accumulation of prostaglandins during menstruation results in uterine hypercontraction and pain. The prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is around 54.89%. The impact of primary dysmenorrhea if not treated immediately is the disruption of learning activities. Fast food plays a role as a risk factor for primary dysmenorrhea. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between fast food consumption and primary dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls at SMK. This type of research is quantitative with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 63 adolescent girls of SMK Koperasi Yogyakarta. The sample was determined by stratified random sampling technique with a total of 54 adolescent girls. Data collection was carried out in June 2024. The instruments used were FFQ questionnaire and dysmenorrhea questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using Spearman Rank statistical test. The results showed that the majority of fast food consumption was in the frequent category, namely 29 respondents (53.7%), the majority of dysmenorrhea was in the severe category, namely 28 respondents (51.9%). Statistical test results obtained p-value 0.001 (<0.05) with a very strong relationship (0.833). The direction of the correlation is positive, meaning that the more frequent the consumption of fast food, the more severe the dysmenorrhea experienced. There is a relationship between fast food and primary dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. It is recommended that adolescent girls avoid consuming fast food and switch to healthy foods so as to reduce primary dysmenorrhea during menstruation
