Abstract

With a decrease in age of 0.145 years every decade, Indonesia ranks 15th out of 67 countries according to the results of the 2010 RISKESDAS report, which found that 5.2% of children in 17 provinces in Indonesia experienced menarche before the age of 12 which was characterized by enlarged pelvis, breast enlargement, growth of axillary hair and pubic hair. Menarche has occurred in 20.9% of Indonesian women under the age of 12 years. The study design was cross-sectional with a sample of 90 children in grades 5 and 6. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling, data analysis used the Chi-Square test (α=0.05). Variables related to the incidence of early menarche are lifestyle (P-value=0.004, OR=9.008), BMI status (P-value=0.007, OR=8.042), variables not related to early menarche, namely: level of religious knowledge related to menarche (P-value=1.000, OR=0.000). This research is expected to provide additional insight to the public regarding early menarche. This research is expected to be literacy to complement previous studies regarding early menarche. Future research can add other variables that have not been discussed in this study, such as nutritional status or others.

Abstract

Data showing a significant increase trend in sales of electronic cigarettes in Indonesia and users aged ≥ 15 years have increased tenfold to 6.6 million in 2021, and there has been no e-cigarette regulation. The purpose of the study is to provide evidence to support policies intended for increasing the number of electric smokers. Using data from the 2019 Global Youth Tobacco Survey with national representation. Simple and multiple logistic regression analyses (p < 0.05) were performed. The analysis states: 15% of youth 13-15 years old use e-cigarettes and most users are boys 13 years old, with a weekly disposable income below IDR 50,000. Multivariate analysis shows; friends or shop workers who provide e-cigarettes or attend events promoting tobacco products have a 15-fold greater influence on adolescents than the reference group. When compared to not seeing the advertisements, e-cigarette advertisements on the streets/stores/TV/ internet have the potential to increase adolescent motivation by 8 times. Nonsmokers who have tried tobacco products are potentially three times more likely to be interested in e-cigarettes than those who have never tried them. Adolescent smokers are twice as likely as nonsmokers to use e-cigarettes, and close friends who smoke are twice as likely as nonsmokers to influence e-cigarette use. Information shows that the previous Tobacco Advertising Promotion and Sponsorship Policy was ineffective, it needed to be strengthened with a total ban. It is critical to strengthen smoking cessation efforts, as well as raise parental and community awareness of the dangers of consuming tobacco products.

Abstract

Eye fatigue is a somatic disorder in the ciliary muscle of the eye that is forced to work to see close objects for long periods of time. Computers as electronic devices use electrical energy and electromagnetic radiation waves that are harmful to eye health. The installation of Antiglare Screen on a computer monitor is believed to reduce complaints of eye muscle fatigue so it needs to be reviewed for the effectiveness of its use. It is known the effectiveness of using screens on computer monitors to reduce eye muscle fatigue of employees at the Ambon City Education Office in 2023. Quantitative research design with quasy experiment method. Using Simple Random Sampling technique as many as 30 respondents. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and interventions using screen monitors measured by the photostress recovery test method. The measurement results are analyzed by the repeated-measured anova statistical test. The average prevalence value of eye muscle fatigue ≥ 50 seconds before the screen installation intervention on a computer monitor. After the intervention, post-measurement of 1 right eye on the fourth day amounted to 14.833 seconds, the OR value was 0.028, for the left eye it was 14.633 seconds, the OR value was 0.001. Post measurement-2 of the right eye on the sixth day of 26.367 seconds of OR value of 0.026, for the left eye of 25.533 seconds OR value 0.016. Furthermore, Post measurement-3 right eye on day 10 amounted to 35,200 seconds OR value -0.001, for left eye 35,700 seconds OR value -0.038. There was a difference in the average fatigue of the eye muscles in three post-measurements using the photostress recovery test method. Post-measurement variable-3 on day 10 of the intervention using a computer monitor screen had an effect on reducing eye muscle fatigue. The longer respondents use antiglare screen, the less eye muscle fatigue. Although there were respondents who had refractive errors, the use of screen monitors was effective in reducing fatigue of the right eye OR (-0.001) and left eye OR (-0.038). Computer users must have occupational safety and health awareness in using computers. Pay attention to the arrangement of the workspace and optimize eye rest time by occasionally turning your eyes to the green area filled with trees outdoors.

Abstract

Preeclampsia and eclampsia have the greatest impact on the morbidity and mortality of pregnant women and newborns. Management of patients with manifestations of preeclampsia requires a well-formulated plan that takes into account maternal risk factors, clinical, laboratory, and imaging (X-ray) findings, and time of onset gestational age, and delivery. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI), albumin levels, mean arterial pressure (MAP), and food intake on the incidence of preeclampsia. This prospective cohort study was conducted at the Community Health Centers working area of Central Jakarta from October 2021 to May 2022. A sample of 167 pregnant women was selected using consecutive sampling with inclusion criteria of 13-16 weeks gestation and was willing to participate in the research program. Samples who had communication disorders were on routine medication, and had a history of other diseases, except for hypertension, were excluded from the study. Data processing uses the SPSS 22.0 program with independent t-test and chi-square test analysis. The results showed that 8.4% of pregnant women with preeclampsia were positive, there was a significant relationship between age (p = 0.042; RR = 2.99; 95% CI: 1.00-9.16); spacing of pregnancies (p= 0.008; RR= 3.97; 95% CI: 1.46-10.78); maternal history of hypertension (p= 0.002; RR= 5.18; 95% CI: 1.98-13.59); BMI in early pregnancy (p= 0.001; RR= 6.02; 95% CI: 1.98-18.28); albumin level (p= 0.001; RR= 13.48; 95% CI: 1.80-100.69); MAP (p< 0.001; RR= 10.93; 95%CI: 4.47-26.70); animal protein intake (p= 0.024; RR= 3.13; 95%CI: 1.10-8.91); and vegetable intake (p= 0.038; RR= 2.79; 95%CI: 1.02-7.64) with preeclampsia. Preventing the occurrence of preeclampsia can be done by early examination of albumin levels and maintaining food intake.

Abstract

Maternal mortality in Indonesia increased but the coverage of antenatal care and birth attendants by health workers is high. The majority of antenatal care was by private midwives and the majority of birth attendants was by midwives. The study aims to determine the maternal health services by private midwives in maternal health services. It was a mixed study, carried out in Surabaya City because of the highest maternal deaths in East Java Province in 2016. The secondary data of maternal health services were collected from Surabaya City Health Office and Indonesian Midwives Association of Branch Surabaya City. The qualitative data were domain on internal and external problems of private practice midwives. There were 10 informants whom selected purposively. The data were collected by round table discussion. The secondary data were analyzed univariately and the qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. From about 250 private midwives in Surabaya City, 133 were ‘Delima’ midwives in which a program of the Indonesia Midwives Association. Maternal health services by private midwives enhance access. The ‘Delima’ midwives have requirements of knowledge, enhancing skill, reporting, infrastructure standards, and development. So, the quality of maternal health services by ‘Delima’ midwives was relatively better. However, private midwives’ services, including the ‘Delima’ midwives in Surabaya city had not analyzed ANC results, pregnant women visiting private midwives should visit health centers for integrated ANC, midwives’ duties beyond educational competencies, and lack of mentoring for apprentice midwives because of many midwives’ duties. It suggests improving the knowledge and skill of private midwives.

Abstract

Chitosan is an important biopolymer that is used as a raw material in several industries, but the manufacturing process has the potential to harm the environment. This study aimed to exploit chitosan in mangrove endophytic fungi and to characterize it. The four fungi isolates used were 20BB0501, 20CB07, 20BA04, and 20BA0502. Fungi were obtained from mangrove plants and identified macroscopically and microscopically using the coverslip method. After performing fungal maintenance on MEA media, fungi cultivation was done on rice media for 14 days. A chitosan extract was made by isolating and extracting the chitosan from the fungal biomass. FTIR was used to characterize the isolated chitosan extract. Macroscopic examinations revealed that each of the four strains had a delicate structure and was white. According to the extraction results, the yield of chitosan from the fungal biomass was 7.5%, 16.7%, 1.6%, and 11%, respectively. According to the FTIR data, showed the degree of deacetylation reached 85.02%, 97.78%, 88.7%, and 85.02%. It can be concluded that mangrove endophytic fungi can be used in the manufacture of chitosan, which produces a high degree of deacetylation using a more environmentally friendly process. The results of this study indicate that marine fungal strains can be used as a source of chitosan.  This basis can be developed for the production of bio surfactants, enzymes, and the discovery of new bioactive compounds has pharmacological and biotechnological potential.

Abstract

Neurotic, stress, and somatoform disorders are one of the diagnosis group characterized by anxiety symptoms. Thiamine or vitamin B1 levels, Body Mass Index (BMI), and sleep duration have been associated partially with anxiety disorders in the health population. The aim of this study is to examined the relationship between thiamine levels, BMI, and sleep duration with anxiety symptoms among people with neurotic, stress, and somatoform disorders. This study is observational with cross-sectional design and engage patients with neurotic, stress, and somatoform disorders as participant. The data gathered comprised thimine levels measured using the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), BMI measured based on data of the patient's weight and height, and sleep duration obtained through a questionnaire. Anxiety levels were evaluated using the Zung Self-Rating Questionnaire (SAS). Linear regression was performed for data analysis. The findings indicated that there was no significant relationship between vitamin B1 levels and anxiety levels. However, this study suggested that an increase of 1 hour in sleep duration (coefficient = -2.784, p = 0.007) and an increase of 1 unit in BMI (coefficient = -0.824, p = 0.022) were associated with a statistically significant decrease in anxiety index. This study demonstrated significant relationship between BMI and sleep duration with anxiety symptoms in patients with neurotic, stress, and somatoform disorders. Further study is required to understand the mechanisms of this relationship and its implications for the treatment of patients with neurotic, stress, and somatoform disorders.
