Abstract

Al-Firdaus Mosque, located at Jl. Zamrud I No. 29, Palangka Permai, Palangka Raya, has long served as a hub for worship and social interaction among residents, hosting established routine activities such as post-Maghrib religious study sessions, scripture readings, and weekly dawn gatherings prior to the arrival of the KKN (Student Community Service) team. This community service program aimed to support rather than replace existing activities by employing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach that positioned the community as partners across four stages: needs identification, collaborative planning, action implementation, and reflection. Data were gathered through participant observation, informal interviews, and documentation. Activities took place from July 15 to August 27, 2026, and included participation in religious study sessions and scripture readings, assistance with the TPA (Quranic education for children), help with meal preparation, neighborhood cleanup drives, and the fabrication and installation of street signs. The results indicate that the students' technical support strengthened the mosque's operational capacity without altering community ownership of the programs; this was evidenced by 25 instances of participation in religious study sessions, 16 sessions of TPA assistance, two community cleanup events, and the installation of two street signs. It is concluded that the success of mosque-based community service hinges on the students acting as facilitators who bolster the sustainability of community initiatives rather than taking over the programs.
