Abstract

The management of household organic waste presents a significant challenge in efforts to promote environmental sustainability. This study aims to utilize banana peels (Musa balbisiana) and cabbage (Brassica oleracea) waste as raw materials for the production of eco-enzyme through a three-month fermentation process using a ratio of 3:1:10 (organic waste:brown sugar:water). The evaluation included organoleptic tests (color and aroma), pH measurement, and qualitative analysis of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) content. The results showed that both eco-enzyme variations exhibited a cloudy brown color, acidic aroma with varying banana peel scent intensity, and a pH of 3, indicating high acidity due to organic acid formation. Qualitative tests confirmed the presence of N, P, and K in both variations. These findings demonstrate the potential of combining banana peels and cabbage to produce eco-enzyme as an environmentally friendly organic fertilizer. Further research is recommended to conduct quantitative analysis to determine nutrient content levels and assess the effectiveness of eco-enzyme application in agricultural practices.

Abstract

Cream is a commonly used cosmetic formulation known for its high stability, largely due to the presence of emulsifiers in its oil and water phases, such as stearic acid and triethanolamine. Emulsifiers play a crucial role in maintaining the physical stability of the formulation. This study aims to optimize cream formulations by varying the ratios of stearic acid to triethanolamine, evaluated based on smoothness and adhesiveness parameters. The tested ratio variations included 5/2; 5/2.5; 5/3; 5/3.5; 5/4; 10/2; 10/2.5; 10/3; 10/3.5; 10/4; 15/2; 15/2.5; 15/3; 15/3.5; 15/4; 20/2; 20/2.5; 20/3; 20/3.5; and 20/4, with each formulation tested in triplicate. The results indicated that several combinations met the required standards for smoothness and adhesiveness, including 5/2; 10/2.5; 10/3; 10/3.5; 10/4; 15/2; 15/2.5; 15/3; 15/3.5; 15/4; 20/2.5; and 20/3. Further analysis revealed a strong correlation between smoothness, adhesiveness, and viscosity, with viscosity being directly influenced by the amounts of stearic acid and triethanolamine in the formulation. This study produced a base cream formulation that may serve as a reference for further development, including active ingredient incorporation, quality testing, and evaluation of other physical properties.

Abstract

The limited number of studies on the synergistic antioxidant potential of combined extracts from Kecibeling leaves (Strobilanthes crispa (L.) Blume) and Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) forms the basis of this research, despite its significant implications for the development of safe natural antioxidant products. This study aims to determine the total phenolic content and evaluate the antioxidant activity of various combination ratios of Kecibeling and Papaya leaf extracts. A quantitative experimental approach was employed, using maceration extraction with 96% ethanol as the solvent. Data were obtained through the Folin–Ciocalteu assay to determine total phenolic content and the DPPH method to assess antioxidant activity, analyzed via spectrophotometry and linear regression to calculate IC₅₀ values. The results show that the 75:25 ratio (Kecibeling:Papaya) yielded the highest total phenolic content at 71.35 mg GAE/g and exhibited the strongest antioxidant activity with an IC₅₀ value of 62.02 µg/mL, categorized as a strong antioxidant. These findings support the theory that combining phenolic compounds from different plant sources can enhance their biological activity. Thus, the combination of Kecibeling and Papaya leaf extracts proved superior to single extracts in terms of antioxidant efficacy. The implications of this study include contributions to the literature on phytochemical synergy and practical recommendations for the herbal and functional food industries in formulating natural ingredient combinations.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create (RADEC) learning model in Grade IV Mathematics instruction and identifies the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing its application. The research is motivated by the low levels of student participation and critical thinking in Mathematics learning, which remains heavily reliant on lecture-based methods. The RADEC model was selected for its emphasis on active, collaborative learning and its alignment with 21st-century skill development. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning activities. The implementation process follows five core stages: reading, answering, group discussion, explanation, and creative tasks. Key supporting factors include well-prepared teaching materials, teacher competence, student readiness, increased student engagement, and enhanced self-confidence. In contrast, inhibiting factors comprise limited instructional time, student difficulties during discussions, and challenges in understanding mathematical symbols. Additionally, some students perceived the model as overly serious and time-consuming. The study concludes that while the RADEC model positively influences student engagement and learning outcomes, its success depends on effective time management and adaptive teaching strategies that address students’ cognitive and emotional needs.

Abstract

Coal remains the primary energy source for power generation and industry; however, its quality is strongly influenced by ash content. Ash, as an inorganic mineral residue from combustion, reduces calorific value, thereby affecting energy efficiency and operational costs. This study aims to analyze the effect of ash content on coal calorific value based on BS/ISO standard methods. Coal samples were collected from several mining sites and tested in the laboratory to determine ash content through proximate analysis and calorific value using a bomb calorimeter. Data were analyzed quantitatively using correlation and regression tests to identify the relationship between ash content and calorific value. The results demonstrate a significant negative correlation, indicating that higher ash content corresponds to lower calorific value. Data visualization further illustrates a consistent decline in calorific value with increasing ash content, although anomalies appear in samples containing specific minerals. These findings underscore that ash content is a critical factor influencing coal quality and must be considered in its classification and utilization. The implications of this study provide valuable contributions for the mining industry and power plants in improving energy efficiency and promoting more optimal and sustainable coal utilization.
