Abstract

The background of this study focuses on the importance of accuracy in translating sentences containing lexical ambiguity. Misunderstandings often occur in cross-language understanding because each language must have a translation tool by selecting and translating sentences with many possible meanings. This study aims to analyze the results of translating Indonesian sentences containing lexical ambiguity into English using two translation engines, namely Google Translate and ChatGPT. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach. Data in the form of sentences containing ambiguity were collected and translated using both tools, then analyzed based on semantic theory and translation theory. The results of the study show that both translation tools are able to translate ambiguous sentences with varying degrees of success. The results of the analysis show that both Google Translate and ChatGPT have the ability to translate sentences where there is a meaning with varying degrees of success. ChatGPT tends to produce translations that are more contextual and closer to the actual meaning than Google Translate which tends to translate literally. Thus, it can be concluded that the development of translation technology must consider the ability to understand context semantically so that the translation results are more accurate and natural.

Abstract

Penggunaan media sosial dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia bagi siswa telah menjadi topik yang semakin relevan pada era digital. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis urgensi serta tantangan dalam penggunaan media sosial sebagai alat bantu pembelajaran bagi siswa Warga Negara Asing (WNA) asal Tiongkok. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media sosial dapat meningkatkan aksesibilitas terhadap materi pembelajaran, memperluas kesempatan berinteraksi dengan penutur asli, serta meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam belajar. Namun, terdapat beberapa tantangan seperti kesulitan memahami kosakata dan struktur bahasa, kurangnya interaksi langsung, serta potensi distraksi dari konten non-pembelajaran. Social media in Indonesian Language has become an increaslingly relevant topic in the digital era. This research aims to analyze the urgency and challenges in using social media as a learning aid for foreign national (WNA) students from Tiongkok. The research method used is qualitative descriptive approach with data collection technique through interviews, observation, and document analysis. The research results show what that social media can increase accessibility to learning material, expand opportunities for increation with native speakers, and increase student motivation in learning. However, there are several challenges such as difficulty understanding vocabulary and language structures, lack of direct interaction, and potential distraction from non-learning content.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji skenario wacana ritual Koso Wancang pada masyarakat Todo kecamatan Satar Mese Kabupaten Manggarai dari kaca mata ilmu linguistik kebudayaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan skenario wacana berdasarkan data bahasa dan makna dari ritual Koso Wancang tersebut. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah instrumen panduan simak, panduan wawancara, teknik rekam, dan teknik catat. Skenario wacana dalam ilmu linguistik kebudayaan mencakup kajian tentang siapa berbicara kepada siapa dalam suatu ritus kebudayaan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa skenario wacana linguisti kebudayaan dalam Koso Wancang merupakan sebuah istilah yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Manggarai, khususnya masyarakat Todo yang terbagi dalam empat skema, yaitu skema tindak tutur, skema urutan, skema perspektif, dan skema ideasional. Keempat skema wacana ini mengarah pada pemaknaan bahwa Koso Wancang bermakna pada upacara pengangkatan arwah dari orang yang meninggal supaya tidak lagi tinggal di rumah atau pondok yang ditinggali selama hidup dan yang sifatnya hanya untuk sementara untuk pergi agar keluarga yang tinggal di rumah atau pondok tersebut tidak merasa terganggu. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ada pemisahakan antara kehidupan orang yang telah meninggal dan yang masih hidup pada masyarakat Todo, kaupaten Manggarai.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) terhadap keterampilan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII MTs Al-Manshuriyah Tahun Ajar 2024/2025. Subjek pada penelitian ini berjumlah 2 kelas yaitu kelas VII-A (kelas kontrol) dan VII-B (kelas eksperimen). Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari tes dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, diperoleh bahwa rata-rata nilai posttest kelas kontrol sebesar 60,48 dengan kategori rendah, sedangkan kelas eksperimen yang diberikan perlakuan menggunakan pendekatan CRT memperoleh rata-rata nilai posttest sebesar 76,36 dengan kategori sedang. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan bahwa thitung sebesar 10,103 lebih besar dari ttabel 2,010 pada taraf signifikansi 0,05, yang berarti terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara kedua kelas. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap peningkatan keterampilan menulis teks deskripsi. Pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) terbukti mampu meningkatkan partisipasi aktif siswa, membantu mereka mengaitkan pembelajaran dengan konteks budaya pribadi, serta mempermudah dalam menuangkan ide ke dalam tulisan. Oleh karena itu, pendekatan ini dapat dijadikan alternatif strategi pembelajaran yang efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji efektivitas model pembelajaran diskusi terhadap keterampilan menyimak cerita pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. siswa kelas II di SDN 1 Klampok. Latar belakang penelitian ini berawal dari rendahnya kemampuan menyimak siswa yang disebabkan oleh kurangnya motivasi saat pembelajaran. Metode yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari beberapa tahap yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah Siswa kelas II di SDN 1 Klampok yang berjumlah 35 siswa yang terdiri dari 18 laki-laki dan 17 perempuan. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan tes tertulis untuk mengetahui kemamouan Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan observasi, tes dan dokumentasi. Instrumen dalam pengumpulan data terdiri dari lembar observasi dan lembar tes. Data observasi di analisis menggunakan data kualitatif dan data hasil tes kemampuan menyimak dianalisis menggunakan data kuantitatif. Hasilnya penelitian pada siklus I menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan menyimak siswa meningkat sebesar 62%. Pada siklus II, setelah dilakukan perbaikan dan penyesuaian strategi pembelajaran, hasilnya meningkat menjadi 90%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa metode pembelajaran diskusi dapat meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak cerita siswa kelas II di SDN 1 Klampok. Dengan demikian, penerapan metode pembelajaran diskusi terbukti efektif dalam mengatasi masalah rendahnya keterampilan menyimak siswa dan dapat dijadikan alternatif dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of translation techniques in preserving the meaning and nuances of literary works. It aims to analyze the use of amplification techniques in the novel L’Appel de l’ange by Guillaume Musso, translated into Indonesian by Yudith Listiandri. The focus is to identify the types of amplification techniques used and analyze their functions within the translated sentences. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with purposive sampling to select sentences containing amplification techniques. Data were analyzed by categorizing amplification types—explicitation, addition, paraphrase, description, and footnotes—and examining their functions in context. Results show that explicitation is the most frequently used technique (125 sentences), followed by addition (31 sentences), paraphrase (19 sentences), description (18 sentences), and footnotes (6 sentences). These findings highlight the significant role of amplification techniques in influencing the simplicity and complexity of sentence structures in translation.

Abstract

Animated films serve not only as entertainment but also as a medium for conveying social criticism through symbolic representation. This study aims to examine the denotative and connotative meanings of verbal and nonverbal symbols in the animated film Le Magasin des Suicides using Barthes semiotic approach. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with observation and note-taking techniques to identify scenes containing symbolic representations of death. Data were selected purposively from key scenes that illustrate death-related symbolism and analyzed through Barthes theory of signs. The findings reveal that symbols such as hanging ropes, poison, knife, promotional slogans, and coffin-shaped birthday cakes not only carry literal meanings but also convey ideological critiques related to nihilism, consumerism, and the commodification of death in modern society. The film reflects how death is normalized and commodified within daily routines through dark humor. Thus, this animated film functions not merely as entertainment but as a form of social commentary, revealing how modern culture constructs and interprets the concept of death.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the meaning of messages in one of the public service advertisements MangerBouger produced by Santé Publique France using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. Advertising, as a medium of public communication, not only conveys messages directly but also shapes awareness through the use of visual and verbal signs rich in cultural and ideological meanings. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method focusing on in-depth interpretation of meaning within social phenomena in the context of visual communication. The research object is the MangerBouger advertisement entitled “Commencez par Manger des Légumes Secs un Peu Plus Souvent”, obtained from the YouTube platform, and analyzed through visual observation, literature review, and documentation. The data were analyzed by dissecting the layers of denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings based on Barthes’ theory. The results show that the advertisement delivers health messages in a symbolic and persuasive way, and constructs a certain cultural representation that appears natural. Barthes’ semiotic approach proves effective in revealing hidden meanings behind the visual and verbal representations used in public communication strategies by French government agencies.

Abstract

Studies on commissive speech acts in modern French literary texts are still very limited, especially in the context of their translation into Indonesian. However, commissive speech acts such as promises, offers, oaths, and threats play an important role in building the dynamics of relationships between characters in a narrative. Therefore, this research is important to fill the gap in studies and enrich translation studies within the context of pragmatic linguistics. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a document analysis approach on Guillaume Musso's novel Central Park and its Indonesian translation. This study refers to Austin's (1962) and Searle's (1969) speech act theory to identify forms of commissive speech acts, as well as Vinay and Darbelnet's (1995) translation technique theory to analyze the translation strategies used. The research questions are answered through the identification of the types of commissive speech acts that appear in the translated text and the translation techniques used to convey the meaning of the utterances into the target language. The results of the study show that out of 51 data analyzed, four types of commissive speech acts were found, namely promises (49%), offers (31.3%), oaths (11.8%), and threats (7.9%). Meanwhile, in terms of translation techniques, six out of seven techniques proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet were identified, with modulation being the most dominant technique (35.3%). These results indicate that translators actively adapt the meaning and function of utterances to align with the cultural and linguistic context of the target language.

Abstract

Mastery of foreign languages, particularly French, plays a crucial role in supporting tourism services in Bandung. As the frontline of tourist services, the Tourist Information Center (TIC) staff are expected to communicate effectively with international visitors, including those from French-speaking countries. This study aims to design and develop an A1-level French learning module tailored to the specific needs of TIC staff in Bandung. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach consisting of needs analysis, module design, expert validation, and limited trials. The participants were six TIC staff members in Bandung who had no prior formal learning experience in French. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, and analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The result was a contextual, practical, and applicable learning module comprising six units focused on real-life communication situations in the tourism sector. Expert validation indicated that the module was feasible with minor revisions, while the trial implementation achieved an average score of 4.46 (89.2%), categorized as “Highly Feasible.” These findings demonstrate that the A1-level French learning module is effective for self-directed learning among TIC staff and contributes to improving the quality of tourism services in Bandung.
