Abstract

Pathological vaginal discharge is a common health problem among women and is often caused by infection with Candida albicans. The community in Rasau Jaya Umum Village had limited access to health facilities, creating a need for alternative treatment based on family medicinal plants. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of local residents in utilizing medicinal plants such as betel leaves, temulawak, galangal, and kesum leaves for preventing and managing vaginal discharge. The activity was carried out through preparation, site survey, coordination with village authorities, health education sessions, and demonstrations on the use of medicinal plants. The educational session was conducted in August 2025 and involved community members, health cadres, and posyandu cadres. The results showed an increase in community understanding regarding the use of medicinal plants as an alternative approach to managing vaginal discharge. The mandatory output in the form of electronic media publication was achieved through the release of a documentation video. This activity concluded that empowering the community through the use of family medicinal plants served as an effective and practical approach to supporting women's reproductive health

Abstract

Sungai Duri II Village, Mempawah Regency, is facing serious challenges regarding access to clean water due to climate change, which has deteriorated river water quality. High turbidity and organic contamination have rendered river water unfit for consumption without treatment. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase community independence through socialization and training on Tiered Filtering technology. The method used is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) through education stages, filter assembly demonstrations, and technical assistance. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in community understanding (85%) and the availability of independent filter units at the household level. This technology is proven to reduce water turbidity visually and decrease the economic burden on residents for purchasing clean water, while also serving as a concrete adaptation step against the impacts of climate change in coastal areas. This activity successfully achieved its primary goal of socialising river water treatment using the Tiered Filtering method as a clean water solution for the people of Sungai Duri II village, as well as establishing sustainable collaboration between academics and local government/community. Questionnaire results indicated that 100% of participants stated this activity was beneficial for improving their understanding of simple yet effective clean water treatment systems. Participants expressed that the filter units are easy to use, the clean water produced is tangible, and they feel happy and satisfied with the program.

Abstract

Teluk Makmur Village, Medang Kampai District, Dumai City, is one of the peatland pineapple production centers with considerable potential to be developed into value-added processed products. However, pineapple processing by community business groups is still carried out manually using simple household equipment, resulting in low production efficiency and inconsistent product quality. This community service activity aimed to improve the technology readiness of peatland pineapple jam processing at the Puak Milenial Business Group in Dumai City by applying appropriate technology. The methods included identifying initial production conditions, implementing appropriate technologies such as pineapple peeling knives, pineapple grating machines, and stainless-steel jam stirrer machines, and providing technical assistance during the production process. The evaluation used a descriptive-comparative approach, comparing the production system before and after technological intervention. The results showed that the application of appropriate technology improved operational readiness of production by shifting the production system from a manual to a more structured, semi-standardized system at the household industry scale. In addition to improving production efficiency, the use of more hygienic equipment also supported better food production practices. This activity indicates that the application of appropriate technology can be an effective strategy to strengthen the technical capacity of local potential-based MSMEs.

Abstract

Bojong Kulur Tourism Village has natural tourism potential through river cruising activities and the development of MSMEs, but still faces challenges in visitor interaction due to the limited communication skills of the tour guides. Based on these conditions, this Community Service Program (PkM) was implemented to improve interactive communication skills and storytelling abilities, enabling guides to create more engaging and informative tourism experiences. The main objective of this program was to provide an understanding of interactive communication principles and narrative structuring techniques relevant to river tour guiding. The implementation methods included material presentations, narrative development practice, storytelling delivery, and evaluation through pre-test, post-test, and feedback forms. The program was conducted on 20 November 2025 and was attended by 26 participants. The evaluation results indicated an increase in participants’ knowledge, as reflected in the difference between pre-test and post-test scores, as well as positive responses regarding the clarity and relevance of the material. Overall, this PkM activity successfully strengthened participants’ foundational interactive communication competencies, supported the improvement of tourism service quality, and contributed to enhancing community capacity in destination management. These findings highlight the need for continued training to maintain consistency and quality of services in Bojong Kulur Tourism Village.

Abstract

Indonesia's food security faces challenges due to limited land availability resulting from the conversion of agricultural land into residential areas. Vertical Gardens and organic farming based on Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) from household waste have emerged as innovative solutions to optimize limited land in rural areas. This community service program aims to integrate Vertical Gardens, organic farming, and LOF to enhance village food security in a productive, economical, and sustainable manner. The activity was conducted in Dusun IV Sarirejo, Natar District, South Lampung, using a participatory approach through lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice. The evaluation method employed pre-test and post-test assessments of 70 participants to measure improvements in understanding and skills. Pre-test results indicated that 80% of participants knew about organic waste as fertilizer, but only 10% utilized it and understood LOF production techniques and Vertical Garden implementation. Following the extension program, a significant increase of 88% was observed, with 98% of participants able to produce LOF from vegetable waste and apply Vertical Gardens in limited spaces. The participatory method based on hands-on practice proved effective in transferring knowledge and skills, creating opportunities for food diversification and household economic improvement. Program sustainability requires continuous mentoring, formation of Vertical Garden farmer groups, and integration with village development programs based on organic farming.

Abstract

Religious radicalism had become a significant challenge to social cohesion, tolerance, and religious harmony in Indonesia. Islamic boarding schools and students held a strategic position in countering extremist narratives through the strengthening of critical and contextual literacy. This community service program aimed to enhance the literacy capacity of students in promoting religious moderation through narrative writing based on local experiences in Salatiga City. The program employed an Asset-Based Community Development approach that emphasized existing social, cultural, and intellectual assets within the Islamic boarding school community. The activities were implemented through needs assessment, literacy and religious moderation workshops, and structured writing training accompanied by mentoring and feedback sessions. The results indicated the emergence of a writing culture among students, increased ability to articulate experiences of religious moderation, and the production of a compiled book of student writings as a tangible outcome. This program contributed to the development of counter-narratives against radicalism and strengthened the role of students as agents of inclusive, dialogical, and moderate Islamic discourse in the public sphere.
