Abstract

The study aims to assess trends of car ownership and usage among tertiary students on campus, with an emphasis on Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The research design employed in this study was descriptive survey, aiming to gather information from a sample population through their responses to specific questions. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, summarizing the responses quantitatively through bar charts, pie charts, frequencies, percentages as well as means and tables, created using Microsoft Excel. The results revealed that, a majority (70 percent) of the cars being used by students on the KNUST campus are owned by Ghanaian students with foreign students making up the minority of this number. The major challenges faced by students who own or use vehicles on campus are a lack of filling stations on and around campus, lack of student parking lots, and excess traffic. From the findings, it can be concluded that, students' psychological make-up is a major determinant of vehicle ownership among students. Moreover, the findings further revealed that most of the students who have vehicles on the campus exhibit or develop mostly negative habits after vehicle ownership and this in the long run may have negative effects on academic performance which is the sole purpose of being on campus. The study provides insights into the environmental and health impacts of increased vehicle use on university campuses, offering valuable insights for policy decisions, future research, and campus management, thereby enhancing student mobility.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the income of sweet potato farmers in Bandorasa Wetan Village, Kuningan Regency, by comparing different trading channels, specifically sales to middlemen and direct sales to the processing industry. Sweet potato farming plays a crucial role in supporting local and national economies, with Kuningan being a major sweet potato production area in West Java. Using a quantitative comparative approach with survey techniques, data was collected from 83 farmers, with 49 selling to middlemen and 34 to the industry. The results show that the average income of farmers selling to the industry (IDR 3,468,222) is significantly higher than those selling to middlemen (IDR 2,812,569), as evidenced by the independent sample test (p = 0.000). However, income from industry sales shows greater variability. This research contributes by highlighting the income disparities across trading channels, offering valuable insights for farmers and stakeholders in optimizing trading practices to maximize profitability. Future research should explore factors influencing channel selection, including market conditions and trading strategies, to enhance the overall sustainability and profitability of sweet potato farming.

Abstract

Online gambling has become one of the biggest challenges faced by the Indonesian government in recent decades. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design to analyze the government's communication strategy in combating online gambling in Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with online gambling victims, conducted directly and via the Zoom and Google Meet platforms. Thematic analysis techniques were used to analyze data. The results show that the communication strategies of the government in tackling online gambling have not been fully effective, mainly due to limitations in message delivery, use of communication channels, and enforcement of regulations. It is hoped that through this collaborative approach, the prevalence of online gambling can be significantly reduced, and the community can be better protected from its negative impacts. This research is expected to serve as a reference for future studies in the fields of communication, law, and public policy related to online gambling.

Abstract

Sweet potato processing is a vital part of the local economy. In this study, the business costs incurred and feasibility of processing sweet potato product businesses in the Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Karya Indah in Bandorasa Wetan are analyzed. The research is based on a census technique, namely, the MSME Karyan Wetans, which is used as the population and sample in the research. The business costs are calculated to calculate various costs associated with running a business consisting of fixed costs and variable costs. The acceptance feasibility ratio was found to be 1.455, so it is greater than 1 and is in the feasible and feasible category. This research offers practical guidance for MSMEs in assessing their operational efficiency and helps business owners make informed decisions about investment and expansion. Furthermore, it contributes to the broader understanding of sustainable business practices in the agricultural processing sector, specifically focusing on sweet potato products. Moreover, analyzing the impact of technological improvements or more efficient production methods on reducing costs and increasing productivity could provide valuable insights for enhancing business operations.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of work-life balance and organizational culture on employee engagement within an organization. As companies navigate the global market, human resources play a critical role in determining performance and competitive advantage. Organizational culture serves as a guiding framework that shapes employee behavior, while work-life balance directly influences employee well-being and productivity. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, the study synthesizes findings from peer-reviewed publications indexed in Sinta, focusing on the relationships between these variables. The results indicate that both work-life balance and organizational culture significantly contribute to higher levels of employee engagement, enhancing motivation, commitment, and organizational performance. Employees in environments that prioritize work-life balance and foster open, participatory cultures tend to be more productive and loyal, reducing turnover rates. This research highlights the importance of creating policies that support a healthy work-life balance and positive work culture to improve employee engagement. Future research could examine these variables longitudinally, consider industry-specific dynamics, and incorporate qualitative methods for deeper insights.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the role of local politics and socio-cultural forces in public information disclosure and offer both theoretical and practical contributions to corruption prevention efforts in Indonesia. This study employs Michel Foucault's concept of biopower as a framework to analyze and assess the political and sociocultural forces at play in Sendang village's relationship with public information transparency. The results show that the village government can serve as an important model in the implementation of transparency and accountability, as well as increasing community participation in the decision-making process. In addition, the results of this analysis show that, when properly implemented, public disclosure can be an important mechanism to facilitate more responsive and participatory governance. The contribution of this study lies in providing new insights into how local governments can be integrated into village government structures and how communities can be empowered through access to information.

Abstract

The rapid digitalization of financial transactions has led to the widespread adoption of technology-based payment systems among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). One significant innovation in Indonesia is the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), introduced by Bank Indonesia in 2019 to streamline digital payments through a unified QR code. This study explores the impact of user convenience, trust, and risk perception on QRIS user satisfaction, and further examines how these factors influence the overall use of QRIS among MSMEs in Palopo City. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 52 MSME actors and analyzed with SPSS V.25 to assess the relationships between variables. The results indicate that user convenience and risk perception have a significant impact on user satisfaction, while trust did not show a direct effect. Furthermore, risk perception was found to have a direct significant influence on the use of QRIS, whereas user satisfaction did not mediate the relationship between user convenience, trust, and QRIS use. The findings highlight the importance of addressing risk concerns and enhancing user satisfaction to promote broader QRIS adoption. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital payment adoption and offers practical insights for improving the user experience, particularly in regions with varying digital literacy and technological infrastructure.
