Abstract

Exploring research about teachers’ instructional strategies and challenges can help reveal potential opportunities to improve the quality of education iterated by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4). This review summarizes the literature on the strategies used to teach deaf and hard-of-hearing learners (DHHLs) in Lesotho, the rationale behind using the strategies, and the challenges teachers face during instruction. The review involved thoroughly searching, identifying, reading, and summarizing research from databases such as Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and African-related databases. The results indicate a need for further research, as only a few studies have been identified (n=6). A review of these studies indicates an overall need for teacher training to provide more strategies for teachers to enhance instruction for DHHLs. The strategies teachers use are reported to be varied, such as experiments, peer tutoring, demonstrations, bubble maps, and repetition. This variation prompts further examination of factors other than strategies, such as DHHLs’ language backgrounds, to provide more insight into research and practice in addressing their needs.

Abstract

This article delves into the integration of adolescents with mild intellectual disabilities into mainstream sport classes within China's special education framework. As the practice evolves, an increasing number of children with special needs are being included in regular educational settings, emphasizing a shift from mere inclusion to the pursuit of enhanced educational quality. Physical education is pivotal for the development of these students, aiming to elevate the caliber of inclusive education. However, the current sports development for students with special needs is fraught with issues, including neglect and marginalization in inclusive environments and a lack of adequate resources and personalized plans, which exacerbates the disparity between them and their peers. This disparity not only impedes their full integration into general physical education but also adversely affects their physical and mental well-being and the overall quality of inclusive education. The study underscores the imperative to refine sport teaching methodologies and to devise tailored training programs to bolster the competencies of students with special needs, thereby boosting their engagement in sports and fostering their inclusion in standard sport settings. Through a systematic literature review and mathematical statistics, the study evaluates the status quo of integrated physical education in China, pinpointing the prevalent conditions, challenges, and areas for improvement. The findings reveal that the integration of children with mild intellectual disabilities into standard physical education classes is subpar, primarily constrained by scarce resources, professional development gaps among educators, a dearth of practical experience, and the inherent challenges encountered by the students themselves.

Abstract

Inclusivity in education has become the worldwide for over 30 years, including in Indonesia. The models of learning became important to achieve learning goals. But, limited literature examines the implementation of heutagogy and cybergogy theories in learning models for higher education in inclusive settings. This study aims to examine how heutagogy and cybergogy theoretical approaches can be associated with inclusive education for higher education. The method used was bibliometric analysis. After filtered, 79 articles were found between 2019-2024, and they will be analyzed using performance analysis, science mapping, and visualization. The findings show that the implementation of heutagogy and cybergogy theories in inclusive education for higher education has not been widely studied. The research trends are around COVID-19, pedagogy, character education, and augmented reality. Further, only one study discusses the heutagogy approach to disability in higher education, but no study discusses the cybergogy approach to inclusive education in higher education, also no study discusses the approach through these two theories together in the practice of inclusive education for higher education.

Abstract

Over the last decade, higher education institutions have made significant strides in promoting sustainability and social responsibility. However, the integration of these principles into university mission statements remains insufficient. While universities are advancing in practice, they often fall short of formally embedding these values into their core strategies. This study examines the incorporation of sustainability and social responsibility within the mission statements of 91 Kazakhstani universities. Through word frequency and thematic analysis, key themes and priorities of Kazakhstani higher education institutions are identified. The results highlight a focus on traditional aspects such as “leadership and competitiveness” (71.5%), “innovation and technology” (58.3%), and “education quality” (39.5%). In contrast, “sustainability” is mentioned in only 7.7% of the statements, indicating it is not yet a strategic priority, while “social responsibility” appears in 23.1% of cases, with a notable emphasis on societal benefits and human capital development. These findings suggest a predominant focus on immediate national development goals, potentially at the expense of global educational trends in sustainability. To enhance international competitiveness and better prepare students for global challenges, Kazakhstani universities should more thoroughly integrate sustainability into their strategic frameworks.

Abstract

This case study examines the understanding of Han (a pseudonym), a prospective elementary school teacher in Universitas Pattimura Southwest Maluku Regency, in three weeks with two two-hour meetings each week. The investigator collected data by giving The Integer Test of Primary Operation and followed by an interview. During the research, it was found that Han's conceptual errors occurred in the addition of positive and negative integers, addition of negative integers, subtraction of positive integers, subtraction of negative integers and subtraction involving both positive and negative integers. These conceptual errors occurred because Han applied the rules of multiplication to addition and subtraction. Moreover, in some cases Han also did not pay attention to the operation in the question. It can be concluded that the use of beach pebbles as learning media followed by intensive course can improve Han's understanding in addition and subtraction of integers.

Abstract

This research examines the representation of marginalized identities of language minority groups in digital fiction on Wattpad Indonesia. The problem discussed in this research is how these identities are represented and fought for in a broader social and cultural context. The material objects of the research are two works of fiction on the Wattpad Indonesia platform entitled Dihantui Mas Mantan and Bandung: Kisahku Dengan anak ITB. Both combine two languages, namely Indonesian and local languages, in the story's elements. This research identifies representation strategies that connect language, identity, and social context. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative approach. The results show that the Wattpad Indonesia platform allows writers to express their existence, although it is often marginalized in public discourse. Three social environmental factors also influence this, namely social stigma, language policy, and mainstream representation. In addition, this research highlights the positive and negative impacts of digital interaction and how digital fiction can be a tool to fight for the recognition and visibility of minority language groups.
