Abstract

The outreach program on DAGUSIBU (Get, Use, Store, Dispose) aims to enhance the knowledge of the community, particularly students of SMK Persada Sukabumi, regarding the wise use of medications. Research indicates that many individuals engage in self-medication without adequate knowledge, which can lead to errors in drug usage. This activity includes presentations on how to obtain medications correctly, safe storage practices, and the disposal of unused drugs. Questionnaire results revealed that before the outreach, 93% of students were unaware of DAGUSIBU. After the outreach, it is expected that students will be more prudent in managing their health and understand the importance of consulting medical professionals before consuming medications. This program aims to reduce the risk of drug misuse and increase community awareness about safe and effective medication use.

Abstract

Every year dengue fever cases occur in Sukoharjo District. One of them occurred in Gatak Sub-district, where previously 3 residents were infected with the disease. There is one area, namely Mayang Village, where cadres and several residents cultivate lemons. In lemons, there is a skin that is often ignored but has potential that not many people are aware of, such as; preventing nausea, therapy and anti-insects, especially mosquitoes. One of the active substances contained in lemon peel, namely citronella, produces an aroma that insects do not like. The purpose of this community service is; providing knowledge about dengue fever, utilizing lemon peel into a health product, namely mosquito repellent aromatherapy candles and eliminating dengue fever. This community service activity was delivered using a counseling method equipped with a video screening of dengue fever and a demonstration of making mosquito repellent aromatherapy candles from lemons cultivated by the surrounding community. Abstract

Lip cream is a type of lip makeup that has a liquid texture but tends to be thick or creamy. For this reason, lip cream is often referred to as liquid lipstick. The community service event held on January 30, 2025, at SMA Negeri 4 Cimahi involved 32 students and aimed to provide insights into the utilization of natural resources in the production of lip cream. The activity began with an opening and introduction, followed by a presentation on the use of purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L) and melinjo fruit skin (Gnetum gnemon, L) as active ingredients in the lip cream formulation. Lip cream, which has the ability to keep lips moisturized longer than solid products, is expected to meet good cosmetic standards, namely not causing irritation and providing an even color. The students learned about the anthocyanin content in purple sweet potatoes, which serves as a natural dye, as well as the antimicrobial compounds in melinjo skin that function as preservatives. The resulting lip cream formulation shows a balance between active ingredients and additives, along with organoleptic test results that indicate the desired characteristics. This activity not only provided new knowledge to the students about the utilization of natural ingredients but also fostered their awareness of the importance of safety and quality in the cosmetic products they use. Through a question-and-answer session and the distribution of the "Meilubby" lip cream product to participants, it is hoped that this knowledge will serve as a foundation for students to better understand and appreciate natural ingredient products in the future. This event successfully generated high interest and enthusiasm among students regarding the use of natural ingredients in the cosmetics industry.

Abstract

Marine debris in the waters has become a significant environmental issue, threatening the balance and function of coastal and marine ecosystems, including mangrove ecosystems. Poka Beach in the inner Ambon Bay is facing the accumulation of waste from local activities and external currents. To address this issue, the Community Service Program from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Pattimura University organised a coastal cleanup and mangrove rehabilitation at Poka Beach, involving students, the community, and related institutions. This program aims to raise awareness about the threat of marine debris and the role of mangroves in the sustainability of coastal and marine environments and ecosystems. The Community Service activities include site surveys, coordination with relevant parties, beach clean-up actions, and replanting mangrove seedlings. This activity successfully collected various marine debris accumulated at Poka Beach, such as bottles, food packaging, and household items. Amounting 180 kg of plastic waste was sent to the waste bank for recycling. As many as 150 mangrove seedlings were planted at a distance of 1 meter along the 200-meter stretch of Poka Beach. The sustainability of similar programs through education, conservation, community empowerment, and cross-sector collaboration must be carried out to change community behaviour in proper plastic waste management and create cleaner and healthier coastal and marine environments.
