Abstract

The dynamics of the agricultural sector's contribution to Indonesia's GDP fluctuate annually, with an increase of 13.70% in 2020 but a decrease in 2021 and 2022 13.28%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between social welfare influenced by social capital in the form of trust, networks, and norms. Research data used a mixed method, a combination of quantitative and qualitative data, conducted by primary data and analyzed each other separately. The multiple linear regression test analyzed quantitative data, while qualitative data was described in-depth. The research instrument used a questionnaire consisting of five Likert scales as a measurement for each variable and interviews to look more deeply at the relationship between social capital and social welfare. The data was determined purposively to shallot farmers in four sub-districts, Gondang, Rejoso, Sukomoro, and Bagor, considering that the highest shallot production was in that area. The data was tested for validity and reliability, and then multiple linear regression tests and classical assumption tests were continued. The results show that trust has no significant effect on farmers' welfare. The same thing also happened to the norm, which did not significantly influence farmers' welfare partially. However, it is different with networks that partially influence the welfare of shallot farmers. Simultaneously, trust, norms, and networks influence the welfare of shallot farmers. The implication of this research is designing an empowerment program that focuses on strengthening social capital among shallot farmers, such as a training program for young farmers as farmers group union (Gapoktan) facilitators and the preservation of independent field extension officers (PPL swadaya) from local farmers to provide knowledge to farmers around them.

Abstract

Fluctuations in shallot prices have a significant impact on farmers and other stakeholders. In this context, farmers are often the biggest losers due to price instability, as they have no control over the timing of their product sales, which means they cannot take advantage of more favorable prices during price spikes. On the other hand, price fluctuations affect not only farmers' income but also their farming decisions. Understanding this phenomenon is crucial for policymakers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector to mitigate risks and improve food security, especially for shallot farmers. This study aims to analyze how much price fluctuations and price disparities of shallots occur in East Java and which areas should be the primary concern due to such high fluctuations. To investigate this, disparity analysis using convergence models and price fluctuation analysis using the coefficient of variation (CV) approach were used. This study found that shallot price fluctuations in East Java are highest in the Nganjuk Regency. Interestingly, Nganjuk Regency is the center of shallot production in East Java. In addition, it was also found that areas bordering Nganjuk Regency, such as Madiun Regency, Bojonegoro Regency, Ponorogo Regency, and Pacitan Regency, experienced relatively high price fluctuations. The value of disparity based on the coefficient in the regression model of shallot price comparison in Indonesia shows a value of β < 1. This means that the level of shallot price fluctuations in East Java tends to be high, as evidenced by the CV value in most areas, which is classified as high.

Abstract

Organic vegetables are highly sought-after products due to their reputation for being free from harmful chemicals and not using pesticides or synthetic fertilizers in their cultivation process. Although organic vegetables are considered healthier and more environmentally friendly, the purchase rate by Indonesian consumers is still relatively low. One of the factors that influences the low level of purchase of a product or service by consumers in Indonesia is purchase intention. This study aimed to examine the purchase intention of Indonesian consumers using the theory of planned behavior and the theory of consumption value. The lack of integration between these two theories in analyzing the purchase intention of organic vegetables in previous studies presents a new opportunity to combine both theories for a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the purchase intention of organic vegetables in Indonesia. Data collection was conducted from June to August 2023 using accidental sampling by distributing questionnaires via Google Form, which yielded 365 respondents, all supermarket visitors in the Jabodetabek area. The collected data were then analyzed using SPSS 26 with multiple linear regression analysis. The study's results indicated that attitudes toward organic vegetables, perceived behavioral control, functional value, and novelty value significantly influence the purchase intention of organic vegetables. Meanwhile, subjective norms, emotional value, social value, and conditional value were found to have no significant impact on the purchase intention of organic vegetables.

Abstract

The production of tempe is the most prevalent small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia. The popularity of tempe among Indonesians is closely linked to its health benefits. The high consumption rate of tempe indicates significant potential for the industry, particularly for SMEs involved in its production. A home-based tempe business in Tambak Beras Village, Jombang Regency, exemplifies such an SME. Despite its considerable potential, observations reveal that the business faces several challenges, including the absence of a governing institution or agency, poor financial management, and a labor shortage. This study uses SWOT analysis to formulate an appropriate development strategy for tempe production in Tambakberas Village, Jombang Regency. The research employs descriptive and quantitative methods to analyze development strategies for tempe SMEs. The data was collected in 2024 in Jombang Regency. The purposive sampling was used to select the study sample. Data was collected by observation and interviews. Then, the data was analyzed using SWOT analysis and the EFAS and IFAS matrix. The results showed that the tempe in Tambakberas Village, Jombang Regency, holds a strong internal position with an internal key factor score of 1.10. The EFAS matrix analysis reveals an external key factor score of 1.55, indicating that the business is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities while managing industry threats. Based on the IE matrix derived from the EFAS and IFAS matrices, the tempe business in Tambakberas Village is located in Quadrant I. This positioning suggests that an aggressive strategy is recommended to foster growth, given that the Tempe business has internal strengths that align with external opportunities. The research implies that the home industry needs to improve Human Resources competency, optimize financial management, and expand the tempe business.

Abstract

The increasing demand for beef in Tanjungpinang is reflected in the market opportunity. However, local beef production does not meet market demand. Thus, beef supplies are expected from outside the region. This dependency results from the area's minimal development and efficiency of beef cattle farming. The potential in the livestock sector is not fully utilized, thus creating opportunities to increase regional production and reduce dependence on external supplies. This research was conducted to develop a priority strategy for beef cattle development in Tanjungpinang. This study was conducted in Tanjungpinang using quantitative analysis methods. Purposive sampling is used as a technique. The subjects in this study included a population of farmers who have consistently run beef cattle farming businesses for the past 5 years. Referring to the predetermined criteria, the sample in this study consisted of 44 farmers. SWOT and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods were used in data analysis. The priority strategies for developing the beef cattle fattening agribusiness in Tanjungpinang include establishing partnerships with the government and private sector, developing agricultural and livestock areas in potential subdistricts through modernization, implementing agribusiness livestock field schools and training on producing high-nutrient livestock feed, facilitating and socializing the KUR (Kredit Usaha Rakyat) program, increasing the beef cattle population, creating alternative feed from agricultural waste, introducing agricultural feed processing technologies, and superior cattle breeds tailored to local conditions, Improving the effectiveness of business management and optimizing the role and function of livestock groups and reapplying modern livestock practices from major production centers.

Abstract

Maize is a strategic commodity due to its essential role in food, feed, energy, and industrial raw material supply. The significant role of maize has led to a continual increase in its demand each year. On the other hand, national maize production has declined, resulting in a portion of domestic demand being met through imports. A similar decline in maize production occurred in Larangan Luar Village, Pamekasan Regency. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing maize production, the level of technical efficiency, and the causes of inefficiency in maize farming in Larangan Luar Village. The research location was determined purposively, considering that the area is one of the maize production centers in Pamekasan. The sample consisted of 74 farmers, determined using the Slovin formula and selected through a random sampling method. The primary data used in this study were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire. The research was conducted from September to December 2024. The research objectives were analyzed using the Cobb-Douglas Stochastic Frontier production function approach. Based on the analysis, variables that positively affect maize production are land area, seeds, and phonska fertilizer, while urea fertilizer has an adverse effect. The average level of technical efficiency among maize farmers is relatively low. The factors causing inefficiency are age and education. In light of the research findings, it is recommended that maize farmers adopt intercropping practices, enhance their knowledge of proper cultivation techniques, optimize the use of seeds and phonska fertilizer, and minimize reliance on urea fertilizer.

Abstract

Cassava has the potential to improve farmers' livelihoods, support micro, small, and MSMEs, and contribute to national foreign exchange through high-value processed products. This research was conducted to calculate and compare the magnitude of added value generated by MSMEs from processing MOCAF and non-MOCAF flour into final products. The study was carried out at three MSMEs located in Palembang City: MSME 1 in 7 Ulu Village, MSME 2 in Bukit Baru Village, and MSME 3 in the Golden Estate Housing Complex. The research period spanned from August 2023 to January 2024. A case study approach was employed in this research, with the owners of each MSME server serving as respondents. The data collected consisted of two types: primary and secondary data. Hayami's method and descriptive tabular comparison analysis were used to analyze the data. The results show that processed mocaf flour products demonstrate a higher added value compared to non-mocaf products. Mocaf-based pempek generates the highest added value due to its relatively higher selling price, followed by cookies and stik. Overall, mocaf-based products are more profitable and offer positive economic, social, environmental, and health impacts.

Abstract

The agricultural sector in Indonesia still faces various individual challenges with multiple roles, limited market access, low supply chain transparency, and minimal adoption of digital technology that can improve the efficiency of farming businesses. Digitalization of integrated farming communities is a potential solution to overcome these challenges. This study aims to analyze the characteristics and roles of stakeholders in the pentahelix model for the development of digital farming communities. The research method employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing hybrid survey techniques (online and offline) to collect data from 60 respondents across various regions. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods with data visualization techniques. The analysis stages consist of: reduction (selection of relevant data), visualization by grouping each component of the question interpreted in the form of a percentage, drawing conclusions to state the dominant factors and implications based on stakeholder characteristics, and determining their roles in the form of a pentahelix model. The study's results showed that the majority of stakeholders possess characteristics that are ready to adopt digital technology, with the primary needs being market access, increasing farmer capacity, and environmental sustainability. The characteristics of the pentahelix model involve Farmer Business Actors, Consumer Society, Academics and/or Agricultural Practitioners, Government, and the Koper-Tani Media Platform, which plays a crucial role in supporting the development of integrated digital farming communities.

Abstract

The agricultural sector's contribution to the economy and food security in East Java province is so significant that it is necessary to consider the welfare of farmers. The farmer exchange rate, popularly called NTP, is a crucial indicator of farmer welfare. The first objective is to forecast the combined farmer exchange rate and subsector farmer exchange rate in East Java Province, and the second objective is to analyze the relationship between the subsector farmer exchange rate and the combined farmer exchange rate in East Java Province. Using multiple linear regression, the forecasting method used is triple exponential smoothing to analyze the relationship between the subsector farmer exchange rate and the combined farmer exchange rate. The results show that the combined farmer exchange rate in 2025 is predicted to decrease. The exchange rate of the subsector farmers is expected to decline in 2025, but only for food crops. The exchange rate of subsector farmers in food crops, horticulture, smallholder plantations, livestock, and fisheries simultaneously has a significant effect. It also has a considerable impact on the combined farmer exchange rate.

Abstract

Karanganyar Regency has excellent potential in the agricultural sector, particularly in banana commodities, which support processed industries such as Kampoeng Banana Krezzz, with its main product, banana krezzz. However, this company still experiences product damage and has not implemented a systematic quality control system, so the damage is not well-documented and risks compromising product quality. This study aims to identify the types of product defects, determine their repair priorities, establish the average control limits and variations in the production process, analyze the root causes and contributing factors of product defects, and formulate appropriate corrective actions. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation over 30 days, and then analyzed using the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) approach, which included check sheets, Pareto charts, control charts, and fishbone diagrams. The results showed that the most dominant types of damage were inappropriate shape and size (68.39%) and skin damage (28.03%). The control chart analysis results indicate that the production process is not yet fully under statistical control, as evidenced by the presence of points outside the control limits. Fishbone chart analysis identified four primary causal factors of product damage: people, work methods, materials, and work environment. Proposed improvements include employee training, preparation of production SOPs, supervision of raw materials, and supervision of product quality.
