Abstract

Indonesia is an agricultural country where the agricultural sector still plays a crucial role in the economy. One of the agricultural commodities with high economic value is aren (Arenga pinata merr), which is widely used in the production of aren sugar. This study aims to analyze the role of mentors in enhancing the knowledge and skills of aren craftsmen at PT. Sentra Mulia Sejahtera, Limboto District, Gorontalo Regency. The research methodology employed is a qualitative descriptive approach using survey techniques and the Slovin formula. Data was collected through interviews and questionnaires conducted over a three-month period from July to September 2024, involving 39 respondents comprising mentors and palm sugar artisans. The data was analyzed using multiple linear regression to test the influence of the facilitator's role as a facilitator, communicator, motivator, and innovator on the knowledge and skills of the artisans. The results of the study indicate that the roles of facilitator and innovator have a positive and significant influence on the improvement of artisans' knowledge and skills. Conversely, the roles of communicator and motivator showed a significant negative influence, indicating weaknesses in communication and motivation. These findings imply the need to strengthen assistance strategies, particularly in the roles of communication and motivation, in order to improve the capacity of palm sugar craftsmen more comprehensively.

Abstract

The primary challenge in raw material inventory management for manufacturing companies is determining accurate inventory estimates that are sufficient to support smooth production while minimizing excess inventory costs. The implementation of an efficient inventory management policy enables companies to minimize inventory costs. The purpose of this study is to improve the efficiency of inventory management of temulawak raw materials at PT Jamu Air Mancur. In this study, data analysis was carried out using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method and Reorder Point analysis. Based on the findings obtained, it can be concluded that the optimal frequency of purchasing temulawak raw materials at PT Jamu Air Mancur, as determined by applying the EOQ method, is 7 times a year. The results show that the application of EOQ significantly optimises inventory management through the determination of the right reorder point and order quantity. This approach leads to more efficient stock control, as well as a decrease in overall inventory costs. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the EOQ method in supporting cost-efficient strategies and enhancing the company's operational performance.

Abstract

Coconut plantations are one of the strategic commodities that play an important role in the national economy and community welfare. However, the development of coconut farming faces various obstacles, particularly the limited resources of farmers and difficulties in marketing. This study aims to 1) identify coconut farming management practices in Molanihu Village, Gorontalo, and 2) assess the sustainability of coconut farming in the area. A quantitative descriptive approach was used for the first objective, and the Multiaspect Sustainability Analysis (MSA) method was used for the second objective. The study involved 64 coconut farmers, selected through purposive sampling, utilizing both primary and secondary data. Three dimensions were analyzed: economic, social, and environmental. The results of the study indicate that coconut farming management has been implemented effectively, particularly in terms of group cooperation, harvesting systems, and labor utilization. However, improvements are needed in plant maintenance, market diversification, and the use of irrigation technology. The MSA analysis shows that the sustainability index of coconut farming is categorized as moderately sustainable. The social dimension (78.13) and environmental dimension (84.38) are classified as highly sustainable, while the economic dimension is still classified as moderately sustainable. The differences in indices between dimensions highlight the need for increased attention to enhance the overall sustainability of coconut farming.

Abstract

Farm independence is a crucial foundation for the sustainability of farmers’ agribusiness, as it enables them to optimize resources and adapt to market changes. A farmer group approach is increasingly relevant for strengthening this independence through collaborative knowledge and shared resources. This study aims to (1) analyze the influence of intrinsic determination and extrinsic determination on the dynamic movement of the group and (2) analyze the influence of intrinsic determination, extrinsic determination, and dynamic movement of the group on the independence of farmers in farming. The study was conducted from January to March 2024 at the Bangkit Merbabu Farmers Group in Batur Village, Getasan Subdistrict, Semarang District, Central Java. A total of 42 farmers were selected by simple random sampling as the research sample. Data were collected using questionnaires that measured the four research variables: the influence of intrinsic determination, extrinsic determination, and the dynamic movement of the group on the independence of farmers in farming. The data were analyzed using path analysis with the assistance of SPSS 21. The path analysis results showed significant contributions of intrinsic determination. Intrinsic determination had a strong direct influence on farm independence, while external factors contributed more through indirect paths mediated by the dynamic movement of the group. The dynamic movement of the group itself also had a positive direct effect on the level of farm independence. These findings suggest that enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills directly increases their independence, and extrinsic support further strengthens this effect through interactions within the farmer group.

Abstract

This research evaluates the degree of welfare among rice farmers in Harau and Luak Districts, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. This research examines household income levels and consumption expenditures from December 2024 to February 2025. A quantitative and descriptive approach is employed to conduct the study. Data were collected from 75 rice farmer respondents who were selected by purposive sampling and active rice farming. Primary data on income and expenditure were obtained through direct interviews, while the level of welfare was measured using a structured questionnaire. Two leading indicators were used to assess the farmer household welfare threshold: the share of food expenditure (PPP) and the good service ratio (GSR). PPP helps determine the portion of income spent on food, which indicates food security status, while RJN assesses The capacity of the household to fulfill essential non-food requirements, including education, healthcare, and housing. The study's findings indicate that the majority of rice farmers are vulnerable to food security because most of the population uses most of their income for food needs. This indicates limited financial ability to meet non-food needs. The GSR results also show that most farmers are classified as less prosperous, especially in the Luak District, which shows that rice farming alone is not enough to achieve a decent standard of living. Several factors that influence the welfare of rice farmers include education level, health and nutritional status, number of dependents, land area, labor participation, and residential environmental conditions. In addition, farmers' ability to balance food and non-food needs is an important determinant of their welfare.

Abstract

Food security initiatives face significant challenges due to surging demand outpacing food supply, compounded by climate change and extreme weather events. Biotechnology innovations, particularly transgenic crops, offer a potential solution. As genetically modified organisms (GMOs), transgenic crops are engineered to enhance agricultural productivity and could play a pivotal role in mitigating Indonesia's food crisis. In this context, crops developed through genetic modification technologies are a promising approach to address Indonesia's food security challenges. The present investigation evaluates the feasibility of adopting these transgenic solutions while considering their advantages and limitations. This research was conducted in March 2025 using a narrative literature review method that began by collecting references from Google Scholar, including studies relevant to the opportunities and challenges of GMO crop development in Indonesia, and extracting data from these studies to be presented in narratives and tables. This literature review found that transgenic crops have the potential to support food security through the creation of agricultural commodities with better productivity, adaptive to biotic and abiotic stresses, and higher nutritional content, achieved by utilising the most advanced genetic engineering technologies. Meanwhile, challenges that limit the application of GMO crops relate to biosafety, regulatory, socio-economic, and ethical aspects, and public trust.

Abstract

Agricultural extension officers play a crucial role in increasing knowledge and promoting the adoption of innovations in organic fertilizers among farmers. As educators, innovators, and motivators, agricultural extension officers play a crucial role in promoting the adoption of organic fertilizers among farmers. This study was conducted in the village of Ulapato B from August to October 2024, spanning a period of three months. The objectives of this research are: (1) to analyze the level of adoption of organic fertilizers in corn cultivation during the decision-making process related to innovation among corn farmers, and (2) to examine the diversity of farmers' perceptions regarding the role of agricultural extension officers in the process of adopting organic fertilizer innovations. Primary data were collected through structured interviews with a sample of 77 corn farmers. Data analysis employed frequency distribution and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Frequency distribution was used to categorize the raw data into specific groups for ease of interpretation. At the same time, ANOVA was applied to determine significant differences in farmers' perceptions of the roles of extension officers, namely as educators, innovators, and motivators, based on comparisons of group means. The findings revealed that maize farmers in Ulapato B Village still exhibit low interest in adopting organic fertilizer. The role of extension officers as educators and motivators was perceived positively and contributed significantly to the adoption process. However, their role as innovators was perceived as less effective, particularly in delivering innovations and training related to new technology in organic fertilizer application.

Abstract

The patchouli industry is one of the agricultural sectors that has various potential for good and profitable agribusiness development. The success of the agricultural industry can be achieved through development. However, on the other hand, economic development, particularly through industrial development (Such as Patchouli Distillation), can threaten the sustainability of social development, potentially triggering environmental damage. These three pillars significantly impact the welfare of the community, so a concept is needed that supports the implementation of the relationship between them. This study aims to explore the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the patchouli distillation industry. For this reason, qualitative descriptive analysis is needed to explore these three aspects of the patchouli distillation industry. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Furthermore, quantitative data analysis was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of the patchouli distillation industry by employing the Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C Ratio) approach. The study's results showed that the social impact of the patchouli distillation industry in Bela Village, Tappalang District, did not harm the surrounding community. Viewed from the aspect of public health, they did not feel disturbed and there were no attacks of any disease caused by the distillation industry, but instead had a good impact on social conditions in terms of community behavior. From an economic perspective, the patchouli distillation industry has a significant impact on the income of both entrepreneurs and employees, as well as the community of patchouli farmers surrounding the industry. The results of the study on the distillation industry from an environmental perspective show that the industry does not have a negative impact on the environment, as the liquid waste produced is properly managed through drainage systems. Therefore, the government needs to implement structured extension programs for farmers, enabling them to master various innovations and technologies as well as to access a wide range of financing sources in the agricultural sector.

Abstract

Regional food security reflects the availability of sufficient, equitable, stable, affordable, safe, and nutritious food. Food production in Bengkulu Province has decreased, such as rice production, which fell from 296,472 tons in 2019 to 277,310 tons in 2023, due to limited land and population growth. Income levels significantly affect people's access to food. People with low purchasing power or relatively small incomes will consume products at relatively lower prices and in smaller quantities. This directly affects the community's food quality because food consumption is not balanced with good quality. This study was conducted in October-November 2024 to analyze food security and the dynamics of food availability, access, and quality in Bengkulu. The research used secondary data from BPS 2019-2023 and related agencies. Samples were taken purposively, namely the regencies of South Bengkulu, Rejang Lebong, North Bengkulu, Kaur, Seluma, Mukomuko, Lebong, Kepahiang, Central Bengkulu, and Bengkulu City, for the sample analysis of access and quality indicators. In contrast, the availability indicator excluded Bengkulu City from the data analysis, considering that food availability in urban areas comes from inter-regional trade and is not influenced by local production. Data analysis used descriptive, correlational, and Food Security Quotient (FSQ) methods. The research found that the average food security index of Bengkulu Province in 2019-2023 was 1.07. Each food security indicator has an index value of 1.12 for the availability indicator, 1.13 for the food access indicator, and 0.97 for the food quality indicator.
