Abstract

The aim of this study is to ascertain whether the reading comprehension levels of students who are taught the original TPRC strategy and those who are taught using picture in TPRC strategy differ noticeably. This study used a true-experimental design. It happened during the first semester of the second grade at SMP Islam 1 Kalirejo. A control group and an experimental group were used by the researcher. While the experimental group incorporated picture to the TPRC strategy, the control group employed the original TPRC strategy. According to the findings of the independent group t-test, the experimental and control groups' reading comprehension scores differed statistically significantly, with the significance level for both classes being less than 0.05. The mean score of the experimental group was higher (77.80) than that of the control group (68.42). These findings suggest that incorporating picture in TPRC strategy can effectively improve students’ reading comprehension. In addition, it is suggested that teachers should actively monitor student’s interactions and implement strategies to ensure all students are equally engaged.

Abstract

This study investigates the efficacy of incorporating peer teaching in Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) to enhance students' writing achievement in narrative text. Recognizing the challenges faced by EFL students in organizing ideas and the limitations inherent in traditional pedagogical approaches, this research examines whether the integration of peer teaching in STAD group activities can improve the quality and structure of students' written work. A comparative analysis was conducted between students who were taught using peer teaching in STAD and those who received instruction through the original STAD. The objective of the study is to assess whether significant differences in writing achievement exist between the two groups, with a particular focus on content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanical accuracy. The results indicate a substantial improvement in students' writing skills, suggesting that the incorporation of peer teaching in STAD can serve as an effective pedagogical strategy for enhancing writing proficiency in the EFL context, especially in the domain of narrative text production.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of collaborative game-based learning (GBL) and digital integration on vocabulary acquisition among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. It investigates how interactive digital games, coupled with collaborative activities, enhance students' vocabulary retention and usage. Data was collected through qualitative data collection via online interviews on Google Meet and Zoom with 12 participants, the research reveals that students benefit from the social aspect of game-based learning, where collaboration with peers promotes active vocabulary use and real-time feedback. The study reveals that increased student engagement and motivation play a central role in enhancing vocabulary acquisition. Participants shared that the interactive and competitive nature of game-based learning (GBL) actively encouraged them to engage in vocabulary practice, making learning more enjoyable and dynamic. The findings highlight how game-based learning facilitates vocabulary acquisition through increased engagement and motivation. Collaborative and interactive learning fosters cognitive development and long-term retention.The real-time feedback provided by GBL helped students retain and apply new vocabulary over time. The collaborative aspect of GBL also emerged as a key factor in vocabulary learning, with students benefiting from peer interaction and shared knowledge in game-based environments. This collaboration fostered deeper understanding and allowed students to use vocabulary in meaningful contexts. Furthermore, personalized learning through digital tools was highly appreciated by participants, as adaptive features of digital platforms enabled them to learn at their own pace and tailor their learning experience to their individual needs, reinforcing vocabulary mastery. Overall, the study suggests that integrating GBL and digital tools not only aids vocabulary acquisition but also creates a more engaging, interactive, and personalized learning experience. These findings highlight the potential of incorporating these strategies into language instruction to strengthen vocabulary learning, provide real-world application opportunities, and advance overall language proficiency.

Abstract

Writing is an important skill in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL), but many students struggle due to a lack of grammar knowledge, limited vocabulary, and low awareness of their mistakes. One way to help students overcome these challenges is self-correction, which allows them to find and fix their own mistakes. This study explores how Ginger Software supports self-correction in writing from the perspective of EFL students. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research involved seven students who actively used Ginger Software in their writing tasks. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that Ginger Software helps students improve grammar accuracy, sentence structure, and writing efficiency. Features like grammar checker, spell checker, and sentence rephrasing support students in recognizing and correcting their mistakes independently. However, some students still find it difficult to improve the cohesion and coherence of their academic writing using the software alone. Therefore, combining technology with teacher guidance is recommended to make writing practice more effective

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the significant differences in written language production generated from two different types of tasks between low and high proficiency students. Data were collected from 30 low-proficiency and 30 high-proficiency tenth-grade students using two distinct task types, and analyzed using Repeated Measures ANOVA. The findings revealed statistically significant differences in the CAF (Complexity, Accuracy, and Fluency) measures between the two proficiency groups across both task types. In Task 1, significant differences were found in accuracy and fluency, but not in complexity. In contrast, in Task 2 high and low proficiency students generated significant differences across all CAF aspects. These findings highlight the importance of aligning task complexity with learners' proficiency levels in Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) to improve language learning outcomes and support more effective instructional design.

Abstract

This study applies Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, utilizing Teun A. van Dijk’s methodological framework. Since its release in 1975, the song has captivated audiences with its intricate composition and enigmatic lyrics, sparking diverse interpretations. This research explores how language and discourse within the lyrics reflect, construct, and challenge dominant ideologies and power structures. Through van Dijk’s model, the study examines the macrostructure, microstructure, and superstructure of the song in relation to social cognition and contextual influences. By analyzing linguistic choices, narrative elements, and intertextual meanings, the research reveals how the song navigates themes of identity, defiance, and existential turmoil. The findings indicate that Bohemian Rhapsody extends beyond its musical significance, functioning as a vehicle for cultural critique and social reflection. This study underscores the interdisciplinary relevance of CDA in music analysis, highlighting how discourse in popular songs both shapes and mirrors sociocultural dynamics, reinforcing their role in critical discourse studies.
