Abstract

Family Aware Nutrition (KADARZI) has become a crucial initiative in efforts to improve public health at the family level. This program focuses on increasing understanding and awareness of nutrition within the family by providing knowledge, prevention, and solutions to nutritional problems. Through families who have an understanding and are aware of the nutritional status of the family, it is hoped that morbidity and mortality rates will be reduced, because one of the efforts to improve health status by improving nutritional status. Sidodadi Village is the location for the implementation of KADARZI counseling activities. The media used for this counseling include laptops, infocus, and microphones to achieve optimal results. 20 community members of Sidodadi Village participated in this activity involving education on the concept of Nutrition Conscious Family, supported by discussion sessions and practical demonstrations. The results of the evaluation of activities showed a significant increase in public understanding related to KADARZI, with an initial knowledge level of 15% which jumped to 90%. This achievement reflects the positive impact provided by extension activities on public knowledge about KADARZI. Increasing nutrition awareness is expected to have a positive impact on the overall nutritional status in the Sidodadi Village community. The success of this program illustrates the urgency of education in shaping healthy behaviors, becoming the basis for positive change in family daily life. Therefore, KADARZI is not only a preventive measure, but also a long-term investment in the health of local communities, bringing sustainable benefits to future generations.

Abstract

Rhodamine B is a synthetic dye that is always used to color paper, textiles or ink. The use of rhodamine B is very unsafe for physical fitness and health. When applied without an agent in the body, Rhodamine B irritates the respiratory tract and can cause cancer and liver damage. Even though it has negative effects, this dye is still widely used by irresponsible individuals to make a profit, especially in food processing and cosmetics. Objective: This community service is carried out with the aim of educating the public about the dangers of rhodamine for our bodies, as well as finding out the Rhodamine B content in lipsticks distributed in Lubuk Pakam, where lipstick is one of the cosmetics most widely used by the public, especially women. Method: The method used is socialization by providing direct outreach to the community, especially to mothers and teenagers about the dyes in lip tint which refer to the research results. Qualitative analysis of rhodamine B was carried out using TLC with the mobile phases of ethyl acetate, methanol and ammonia (45 :25:30), while quantitative analysis was carried out in the determination using UV-VIS spectrophotometry at 545 nm. The strategy used in providing knowledge about the dangers of dyes in cosmetics is by giving direct lectures about the various kinds of dyes used in cosmetics, the potential dangers that will arise if cosmetics with excessive dyes are used along with the characteristics of cosmetics with dyes and It is hoped that the public can avoid cosmetics that are indicated to use dyes and get safe cosmetic solutions using natural dyes.

Abstract

Medicinal plants have long been inseparable from Indonesia's cultural heritage and hold significant potential for developing the healthcare and economic sectors. However, the understanding of the younger generation regarding the benefits and value of medicinal plants still needs to be improved. This article examines efforts to promote the importance of medicinal plants, mainly targeted at Clinical and Community Pharmacy Study Program students at Al Razi Sinar Harapan Medan Private Vocational School. In an attempt to address this issue, promoting the benefits and potential of medicinal plants becomes crucial. The activities aim to enhance the awareness and understanding of participants about the significance of medicinal plants in the realms of healthcare and industry. The methods used in these activities include lectures, group discussions, practical demonstrations, and evaluations. These promotion activities show positive and encouraging outcomes, significantly improving participants' understanding of medicinal plants. Most participants who participated in these activities are intensely interested in further exploring medicinal plants, with some even considering pursuing a career in this field. Despite the high level of interest, several challenges still need to be addressed in harnessing the potential of medicinal plants, including limited scientific research, insufficient educational resources, and regulatory hurdles. Overall, with the appropriate approach and cross-sector collaboration, medicinal plants have substantial potential to become a new cornerstone in the healthcare and economic sectors in North Sumatra and throughout Indonesia. Initiatives like these promotions were expected to serve as a promising initial step in uncovering and realizing this potential. With increased understanding and interest among the younger generation in medicinal plants, they can actively contribute to the sustainable development and utilization of these valuable resources, thereby advancing the healthcare sector and supporting the nation's economic growth.

Abstract

Health is the most important thing in carrying out daily life. Everyone wants to live a healthy life so they can live long. Health level is an indicator of life expectancy which is a reference in human development. The aim of this activity is to make people aware of gout in Karang Anyer Village, Lubuk Pakam. Degenerative diseases usually disrupt the human nervous system, blood vessels, muscles and bones, such as gout. Gout or gouty arthritis can attack the joints. PkM activities were carried out in Karang Anyer village where PkM participants were residents aged 26 years to over 65 years with a total of 30 participants. PkM participants consisted of 28 women and 2 men. The instruments used were visual media tools and leaflets. Then the increase in participants' knowledge of gout was measured using a questionnaire. The results of the activity were an increase in public awareness from 15% to 80% in the good category. The results of this activity show that community outreach has advantages in using visual media in providing public information. By using visual media, pictures are presented to make it easier for the public to understand the appeal messages, and the material presented is arranged in the form of brochures and distributed to the public. So that people can re-read the counseling material. Health education media in the form of pictures and brochures are considered effective and can be used in selecting public health education media.

Abstract

To address global challenges related to drug resistance, the role of universities as centers of knowledge and innovation becomes a key driver in overcoming this issue. Universities are expected to actively carry out the three pillars of education, research, and community service. A concrete example of implementing these pillars is through awareness and education activities for students at Al Razi Sinar Harapan Medan Private Vocational High School regarding the appropriate use of antibiotics to prevent drug resistance. These awareness and education activities aim to provide a deep understanding to students about the judicious use of antibiotics as a preventive measure against drug resistance. The methods employed include lectures through presentations, group discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. To assess the level of understanding among students at Al Razi Sinar Harapan Medan Private Vocational High School regarding the use of antibiotics, an evaluation was conducted using a questionnaire. Based on the questionnaire results, before the awareness and education activities on the correct and proper use of antibiotics, the knowledge level of students at Al Razi Sinar Harapan Medan Private Vocational High School was low. However, after participating in these activities, there was a significant improvement in the students' knowledge about the more appropriate and accurate use of antibiotics. Students who gained this knowledge became more skilled and informed in managing their health, fostering a sense of responsibility for personal and community health. Thus, these awareness and education activities not only directly benefit the students' knowledge but also have a broader positive impact on public health as a whole. This effort is expected to make a positive contribution to reducing irrational antibiotic use and minimizing the impact of drug resistance among students, while also supporting the university's Tridarma vision to create a healthier and smarter society. The conclusion drawn from these activities is that students at Al Razi Sinar Harapan Medan Vocational High School now have a better understanding of antibiotic use and are aware of the risks of drug resistance.

Abstract

Garlic plants (Allium sativum L.) can be found in almost all parts of Indonesia, including in Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang. The content contained in the ethanol extract of garlic has various secondary metabolites with a role as an antifungal, namely tannins, saponins, flavonoids, and alkaloids. As utilization and information to the public that garlic ethanol extract is made into mouthwash formulations. This article reports on outreach activities to the people of Lubuk Pakam, to be precise in Lubuk Pakam Pekan sub-district about the potential use of natural garlic mouthwash formulations. Testing the antifungal activity of mouthwash preparations was produced by showing the average diameter of inhibition in the form of F1 (12.3 mm), F2 (17.3 mm), F3 (18.5 mm) and F4 (21.6 mm). This means that the higher the concentration, the better the inhibition of garlic ethanol extract in inhibiting fungal growth.

Abstract

In developing countries, chronic gastritis is the most common type of gastritis with In various countries currently, chronic gastritis occupies a position as a frequently encountered gastritis disease, where the prevalence depends on geographic and socio-economic conditions. Gastritis is a type of disease that causes inflammation of the stomach mucosa. If you take osteoarthritis medicines such as NSAIDS without instructions for use, it will trigger gastrointestinal disease. Gastritis is one of the types of disease with the highest incidence rate. Age and gender factors are generally very susceptible to gastritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a type of arthritis that has chronic impacts and causes many public health problems. Osteoarthritis presents with many different symptoms. The aim of this PkM activity is to educate PkM participants in understanding the gastritis drug regimen that should be recommended to osteoarthritis patients and the rationale for treatment. Seminar activities are carried out using lecture and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) methods. The PkM participants were patients at the Batang Kuis Community Health Center, totaling 50 patients who were determined randomly. There were 30 male patients and 20 female patients. The questionnaire was chosen as a measuring tool to measure the success of this PkM activity. The PkM results showed that 90% or 45 PkM participants stated they were very satisfied with the rationality of using gastritis medication and there were 10% or 5 PkM participants who stated they were satisfied.

Abstract

In an era where information technology has become an integral part of everyday life, the use of computers in the workplace has become the norm. Employees spend hours in front of computer screens to complete their tasks. However, a less recognized impact of prolonged exposure to computer devices is health problems, especially neck, shoulder and back pain. Ergonomics issues in computer use have become a major concern in today's work environment. This PKM activity aims to increase awareness of ergonomics in the workplace and overcome neck pain in workers who use computers regularly. Involving 45 participants, this activity focused on providing education that prioritizes ergonomic principles. Through presentations, discussions and live demonstrations, participants are provided with an in-depth understanding of the importance of correct work posture and the practical implementation of ergonomics principles in daily work routines. Initial assessment results showed that the majority of participants had unergonomic working postures. However, after participating in this activity, there was a significant increase in their understanding of ergonomics and awareness of the importance of correct posture in the workplace. The ergonomic solutions presented, such as chair arrangement, monitor position, and use of ergonomic accessories, were welcomed by participants as real steps in reducing neck pain. This article emphasizes the importance of awareness and practical application of ergonomics in the workplace to improve work health and comfort. It is hoped that this service can make a real contribution in reducing health problems such as neck pain in workers who use computers intensively, as well as improving the quality of their work

Abstract

Elderly age is the final stage of life, where in this elderly phase many changes are experienced by the elderly both physically and mentally. Changes in physical and mental health are a major concern and require a holistic approach to ensure optimal well-being because the health of the elderly is very important to receive attention. Several factors can influence the health of the elderly, such as an inactive lifestyle and lack of attention to physical health, which can cause various health problems. Therefore, there is a need for targeted and sustainable interventions to improve the health of the elderly, one of which is the implementation of special exercises for the elderly. Based on research results, exercise for the elderly has been proven to improve body health and prevent various diseases that arise in the elderly if done regularly. The aim of this Community Service Activity (PKM) is to improve the body health of the elderly. The method used is to check your blood pressure and pulse before exercising and check again after exercising. From the results of the examination, it was found that the majority had normal blood pressure after exercising and a normal pulse after exercising. It is recommended that the elderly continue to carry out exercise regularly to maintain their health, especially physically. Apart from that, they are also advised to pay attention to or implement a healthy daily lifestyle and maintain their physical condition so that they remain in good health.

Abstract

Stroke is a clinically defined acute and focal neurological deficit syndrome caused by vascular injury (infarction, hemorrhage) in the central nervous system. The main reason for stroke occurrence is this delay is public awareness of stroke, its symptoms, risk factors, or appropriate behavior (for example, the immediate occurrence of an emergency). Various risk factors can cause stroke, and one of them is age which cannot be changed. Hypertension is the most important modifiable risk factor for stroke, although its contribution differs for different subtypes. There are many risk factors that can cause stroke, namely factors that cannot be modified such as age, gender, genetics, and can be modified such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, alcohol consumption and substance therapy and diabetes. Physical dysfunction is one of the dominant aspects of post-stroke disability, often associated with stroke-specific disorders such as motor impairment, fatigue, spasticity, and balance problems. Implementation of community service activities is carried out through notifications via the community health center information platform with a total of 20 community members residing in the Sei Suka Community Health Center Working Area. The results of this community service activity show that the majority of participants (more than 80%) in the community do not know the factors that cause strokes in the Sei Suka Health Center Work Area.
