Abstract

The implementation of transformational leadership in elementary schools continues to face various challenges. This study aims to analyse the strategies and challenges of transformational leadership in elementary school UPTDs through a qualitative case study approach. The research subjects were purposively selected principals and teachers, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The analysis used thematic analysis by Broun & Clarke, with data reduction, thematic categorisation, and triangulation to enhance the validity of the findings. The results indicate that the main strategies implemented are teacher empowerment, developing a collaborative culture, and improving the quality of learning. Challenges faced include resistance to change, limited resources, and a lack of policy support. Schools with principals who implement this leadership model have a more harmonious work environment, increased teacher motivation, and better student learning outcomes. This study makes an important contribution to enriching the contextual understanding of transformational leadership practices in elementary schools and supporting the development of more relevant and sustainable policies and principal training.

Abstract

Assessment systems across countries often face challenges in balancing the functions of selection and learning. Examinations often focus on measuring learning outcomes without considering the accompanying pedagogical and social impacts. This study aims to critically analyze and compare the assessment systems implemented by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) in India and the National Education Examinations Authority (NEEA)/Gaokao. This study uses a qualitative, comparative document analysis design to provide an in-depth understanding of the characteristics, principles, and implications of both institutions' assessment systems. The research subjects consisted of 32 official documents. Data were collected through documentation studies and in-depth interviews. The instrument was a validity analysis sheet containing four main components: content relevance, indicator clarity, source consistency, and theoretical relevance. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and analytically using thematic categorization techniques based on four main dimensions: assessment instrument development, system validity and reliability, impact on learning, and institutional credential recognition. The results show that the CISCE excels in curriculum flexibility, integration of formative assessment, and recognition of international credentials. In contrast, the Gaokao excels in mass selection efficiency and national standard consistency. This study concludes that an effective assessment system must balance selection and student potential development to avoid excessive academic pressure. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of developing a national assessment system that is equitable, relevant, and oriented toward lifelong learning

Abstract

Although the implementation of the Community Service Program (PMP) in higher education demonstrates high participation and funding distribution, its effectiveness in supporting the achievement of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education objectives has not been comprehensively evaluated. Therefore, a comprehensive evaluation of the program's implementation is needed. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the 2023 Beginner Community Empowerment Program (PMP) organized by the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service (DRTPM) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. The primary focus is directed at the Product aspect, taking into account the systemic interconnectedness of all model components. Secondary data were obtained from 487 output validation documents and 105 national monitoring reports. In contrast, primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with three key informants who are national reviewers and program guideline compilers. The evaluation results show that the quantitative achievement of five types of outputs (scientific articles, popular articles/mass media, videos, posters, and partner empowerment) is relatively high. However, the quality of the substance and partner participation still varies. The main weaknesses lie in the program planning stage, the lack of data-based needs assessments, and the minimal involvement of partners as co-creators. These findings underscore the importance of revising implementation guidelines, strengthening implementers' technical capacity, and validating quality-based outcomes. The CIPP model has proven effective in identifying root causes and providing direction for systemic and sustainable program improvement.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of reading skills among first-grade students in elementary schools, due to a lack of learning media that suit students' characteristics. This study aims to develop the Fun Thinker Book media to improve first-grade students' reading skills. This research is development research using the ADDIE development model. The methods used for data collection are interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The subjects involved in this study include material experts, learning design experts, learning media experts, and first-grade students as product trial subjects. The data analysis techniques used are quantitative descriptive analysis, qualitative descriptive analysis, and inferential statistical analysis. The results of the study indicate that the Fun Thinker Book media design, in the form of a colored picture book and display frame, was developed to increase students' interest in learning and to use the ADDIE development model. Second, the feasibility of the media was assessed through expert reviews of learning content (96.88%), learning design (93.75%), learning media (95%), individual trials (95.84%), and small group trials (94.1%). Third, the effectiveness of the Fun Thinker book, based on the t-test calculation, produces a t value of 11.708 and a ttable value of 1.714. When compared, the tvalue is greater than the ttable value, so H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Thus, this study shows that the Fun Thinker book media is effective for first-grade elementary school students, resulting in a 5% increase in reading ability.

Abstract

Challenges include limited facilities, human resource constraints, and the need to improve learning quality. This study aims to analyze the implementation of democratic, laissez-faire, and transformational leadership styles applied by SMAN principals in carrying out managerial and educational leadership functions. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and reviews of school documentation. The research subjects consisted of 1 principal, 15 teachers, 10 students, and five educational staff. The results showed that the democratic leadership style was applied in strategic decision-making and the formation of school policies involving various parties. Meanwhile, the laissez-faire approach was used in teacher professional development and the implementation of extracurricular activities, in which the principal granted full autonomy to teachers and students. On the other hand, the transformational leadership style was reflected in an inspirational vision, encouragement of learning and innovation, and the formation of an adaptive and collaborative school culture. The combination of these three leadership styles demonstrated effectiveness in creating a positive learning environment, empowering all school components, and encouraging improvements in the quality of education. The implications of this study provide an overview of the importance of flexibility and contextual sensitivity in principal leadership in developing areas.

Abstract

The use of engaging, contextually relevant learning media appropriate to the learning characteristics of elementary school students remains limited. There is a need for innovative, interactive learning media to support a contextual, meaningful learning process. This study aims to develop a VideoScribe-based learning media, combined with the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach, to improve learning effectiveness among fourth-grade elementary school students. The method used in this study is the Research and Development method, which uses the ADDIE development model and includes the following stages: analysis, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection uses tests, observations, and interviews. The subjects in this study were 21 fourth-grade elementary school students. The analysis technique uses quantitative analysis. The results of the development show that the designed VideoScribe media is highly feasible, as validated by material and media experts and evidenced by positive responses from teachers and students. A limited trial in fourth grade showed that this media increased student engagement and understanding of the subject matter. The conclusion of this study shows that VideoScribe-based learning media integrated with the CTL approach is effective for use in elementary school students' learning. This finding implies that the development of technology-based media aligned with a contextual learning approach can be an alternative strategy for improving the quality of learning processes and outcomes, and can serve as a reference for teachers and media developers in creating more engaging and meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

Students' critical thinking skills in analyzing information, solving problems, and making decisions remain suboptimal. This study aims to analyze the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on the critical thinking skills of class XI students of Office Management and Business Services (MPLB) in the Office Management subject at SMK. This study uses an experimental method with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study consisted of all class XI students at MPLB, with two classes selected as the experimental and control classes. Data collection techniques in this study used tests, interviews, observations, and documentation. The instrument used was a critical thinking test in essay form, consisting of 11 questions. Data analysis was carried out using normality tests, homogeneity tests, N-Gain tests, and independent-samples t-tests. The results of the study indicate that the Project-Based Learning model influences students' critical thinking skills in the office management subject at SMK. This is evidenced by the t-test results, which show a p-value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. Therefore, the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model significantly improves the critical thinking skills of eleventh-grade students of Office Management and Business Services (MPLB) in the Office Management subject at vocational schools. The implications of this finding can be expanded by encouraging MPLB teachers to integrate PjBL into learning through projects relevant to the world of work.

Abstract

Elementary school students' motivation to learn and science learning outcomes remain relatively low due to conventional teaching approaches and limited student involvement in the learning process. This study aims to analyse the Team Games Tournament (TGT) model assisted by crossword puzzles on the motivation and learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students in science. This study used a quantitative, quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent post-test-only control group. The research subjects were 72 students. Data collection was conducted using a learning motivation questionnaire and a multiple-choice science learning outcomes test. Data were analysed using parametric statistical techniques, namely the t-test (independent sample t-test), after going through the prerequisite analysis tests in the form of normality and homogeneity tests. The results of the study show that the MANOVA analysis presented in Table 4.15 indicated that the significance values for each Pillai's Trace, Wilks' Lambda, Hotelling's Trace, and Roy's Largest Root were less than 0.05, so H0 was rejected. The study's conclusions indicate that the crossword-assisted TGT model significantly influences students' learning motivation and science learning outcomes. The implications of this study suggest that TGT-based learning supported by crossword puzzles can be an innovative alternative for improving the quality of science learning in elementary schools
