Abstract

This research focuses on exploring the progressive learning practices applied by female teachers who graduated from education in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, as well as the social and institutional barriers they face. The main objective of this study is to understand how teachers implement participatory, student-centered learning in an environment that is still dominated by traditional and score-oriented approaches. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to describe the teachers' experiences and views related to the application of progressivism in the classroom. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and classroom observations of four female teachers in several schools that adopted progressive education principles. The data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman model, which involves the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to identify the main themes of learning practices and challenges faced by teachers. The results show that although teachers have a strong understanding of the principles of progressive learning, they face obstacles from schools and parents who still adhere to conventional methods. Teachers seek to overcome these barriers through individual student observation and flexible adjustments to teaching methods, such as project-based learning and creative expression, to increase student engagement. The implications of this study suggest that institutional support and collaboration with parents are essential to enable the effective implementation of progressivism. This research contributes to the progressive education literature by highlighting how social and cultural variables affect the application of educational theories in developing countries, as well as providing practical guidance for educators in facing similar challenges in different contexts.

Abstract

This study focuses on exploring the effectiveness of sign language interpretation services in supporting the learning involvement of deaf students in inclusive classrooms. In the context of the limited number of professionals who are proficient in sign language, this study examines the role of peers, the use of local signs, and guest speakers as alternative interpretations applied in inclusive schools. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, which allows for deepening the experiences and perceptions of various related parties, including deaf students, teachers, and school principals. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and direct observation in two inclusive schools in a specific region, involving 32 participants consisting of principals, sign language teachers, non-professional teachers, and deaf students. The data analysis technique used is the thematic analysis of Miles and Huberman, which includes the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results showed that although peers and local signs helped with minimal involvement of deaf students, the presence of professional sign language teachers was more effective in ensuring a deep understanding of the subject matter. In addition, guest speakers from local education offices contribute positively to learning, despite limited availability and lack of sustainability. These findings underscore the importance of developing comprehensive and professional interpretation services in creating an inclusive educational environment. The implications of this study are the need for long-term strategies involving peer training and recruitment of professional sign language teachers to support the learning engagement of deaf students, as well as the provision of policies that are responsive to the communication needs of students with special needs in inclusive schools.

Abstract

This study focuses on the role of technology in enhancing the effectiveness of supervision by madrasah supervisors in Kraksaan District to improve teacher competence. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, data were collected through desk reviews, structured interviews, and observations involving madrasah supervisors, teachers, and principals. The study reveals that digital platforms can improve the efficiency of supervision by facilitating real-time feedback, enhancing collaboration, and accelerating the professional development of teachers. Despite these benefits, the implementation of technology in supervision faces significant challenges, including limited infrastructure, low digital literacy among supervisors, and inadequate policy support. The findings suggest that addressing these barriers through structured digital literacy training, improved access to technology infrastructure, and supportive policies could amplify the benefits of technology-based supervision. This study also highlights the potential of technology to transform traditional supervision methods, offering a more flexible and effective approach to professional development in madrasahs. The implications of this research emphasize the need for sustainable strategies to integrate technology into educational supervision practices, ensuring its long-term impact on teacher competence and educational quality. These results provide valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers aiming to develop and implement technology-based supervision models in diverse educational contexts.
