Abstract

Childbirth often involves significant pain, which can negatively affect maternal well-being and labor progress. Effleurage massage, a simple non-pharmacological technique, has shown potential in reducing labor pain through stimulation of endorphin release. This study aims to evaluate the effect of effleurage massage on decreasing pain intensity during the first stage of labor among mothers in the Kepenuhan Community Health Center area. The research employed a quantitative pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test on 15 primigravida women in the active phase of labor. Data were collected using pain scales and analyzed with a paired t-test. The results indicated a significant reduction in pain scores, with mean pain decreasing from 8.33 (SD=1.345) before massage to 6.20 (SD=1.082) after massage (p<0.05). It is concluded that effleurage massage effectively reduces labor pain during the active phase. This intervention can be recommended as an economical, safe, and non-invasive method to improve maternal comfort during labor. Further research with larger samples and control groups is necessary to strengthen these findings.

Abstract

Patient safety is fundamental to the quality of healthcare services, with effective communication serving as its core foundation. The patient handover process remains the most vulnerable period for medical errors, necessitating the accurate and comprehensive transfer of critical information. To mitigate this inherent risk, the structured communication model SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) is employed, ensuring that vital information is conveyed concisely and with focus This study utilized an analytical descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design to examine the relationship between nurse caring and the implementation of SBAR communication during handover. The research sample consisted of 32 inpatient unit nurses selected via purposive sampling. Data collection involved a structured questionnaire to measure the level of nurse caring (36 statements) and an observation sheet to assess compliance with SBAR elements (20 statements). The majority of respondents were aged >35 years (72%), held a Bachelor's/Ners education (63%), and were female (81%). The results indicated that the majority of nurse caring was categorized as less effective (75%), and the implementation of SBAR communication was also predominantly deemed less effective (62%). The chi-square statistical test yielded a -value of , confirming a highly significant relationship between nurse caring and the implementation of SBAR communication during handover in the inpatient setting. This finding reinforces the conclusion that integrating caring into SBAR communication practice is a crucial component for enhancing the quality and safety of nursing care.

Abstract

The Clean and Healthy Living Behavior Program (PHBS) is a crucial government effort designed to enhance public health by promoting behavioral change. A key indicator of this program is not smoking indoors. Data from the Pakuan Baru Community Health Center in Jambi City in 2023 reveals that achievement of this indicator remains alarmingly low, at 40.95%, significantly below the national target of 72%. This substantial gap underscores the urgent necessity for an in-depth evaluation of the PHBS program's implementation at the household level. This investigation utilized a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was comprehensive, involving in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), field observations, and documentation review. Informants included the Head of the Pakuan Baru Community Health Center, health promotion educators, and community members within the center's working area. The study findings indicate that the PHBS program's implementation has not been optimal. The primary obstacles identified stem from limited human resources and funding, coupled with a mismatch between central and regional indicators. Despite these challenges, the research noted positive behavioral changes in some families who have successfully adopted the habit of not smoking indoors. The strategies employed for the PHBS program on the smoke-free indoors indicator have been diverse but consistently face hurdles related to local culture and long-standing community habits. While initial behavioral shifts are evident in certain households, a more targeted and specific approach is critical to amplify the program’s effectiveness. Future interventions must prioritize improved education, stronger cross-sector support, and the optimization of health cadres’ roles as pivotal factors in successfully achieving smoke-free households.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between leukocyte counts and the incidence of dengue infection in pediatric patients. The study employed a cross-sectional analytical design, collecting data from medical records of patients diagnosed with dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever at RSU UKI from August 1 to 14, 2024. Among 95 patients who met the inclusion criteria, results showed that the majority experienced leukopenia, with percentages of 54.7% on the first day, 52.6% on the second day, and 44.2% on the third day. A significant relationship was found between leukocyte counts and hematocrit values (p = 0.000). Dengue fever occurred more frequently than dengue hemorrhagic fever, with higher prevalence among male patients and those aged 10–18 years. The peak of leukopenia was observed on the second day, which may help predict the critical phase of plasma leakage. Furthermore, the study highlights that monitoring leukocyte trends provides an early indicator for clinicians to anticipate disease progression and potential complications. Regular hematological evaluation, especially within the first three days of fever onset, is essential for distinguishing between mild and severe forms of dengue. The findings also support the integration of leukocyte monitoring with other clinical parameters, such as platelet count and hematocrit levels, to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes. Early recognition of leukopenia patterns can aid in timely interventions, reducing the risk of shock and hemorrhagic manifestations. Therefore, this research reinforces the importance of leukocyte count as a vital prognostic marker in pediatric dengue cases, contributing to better patient management and clinical decision-making in endemic regions

Abstract

The need for reliable and secure Internet connectivity in academic environments has become increasingly crucial to support the teaching and learning process. However, the wireless network (hotspot) at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Muhammadiyah Kotabumi, faces challenges in monitoring bandwidth usage and ensuring protection against unauthorized access. This study aims to design and implement an integrated network system capable of enhancing monitoring functions and security. The methodology employed is the Network Development Life Cycle (NDLC), which consists of the stages of analysis, design, implementation, and testing. The proposed system integrates user authentication through Hotspot and PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet), real-time traffic monitoring using MikroTik Hotspot Monitor, and improved router security through the Port Knocking technique. The implementation results demonstrate that the system is capable of providing centralized data on active users, bandwidth utilization, and activity logs. In addition, the application of Port Knocking successfully conceals critical service ports (Winbox, SSH) from external scans, allowing access only to administrators after performing the correct port-knocking sequence. Overall, this system significantly enhances monitoring capabilities and strengthens the security of the network infrastructure within the faculty environment.
