Abstract

This study aims to describe the reasons why the Tarbiyah Department emphasizes competence in the field of Information Technology (IT) for its students and to explain the efforts made by the department to provide such competence. This research uses a qualitative approach, with the subjects consisting of the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) at Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM) for the 2005–2009 period, Drs. Khozin, M.Si; the Vice Dean I of FAI UMM for the 2005–2009 period, Drs. Sunarto, M.Ag; the Head of the Tarbiyah Department, Dra. Romlah, M.Ag; and the lecturer of IT-based courses in the Tarbiyah Department, Ir. Wahono, MT. The Tarbiyah Department of FAI UMM was chosen as the research setting based on field findings. First, among 29 students taking the Educational Technology course in the sixth semester of the 2008–2009 academic year, only five achieved a “very good” score. Second, there was a “contradictory implementation” in which two of four students who had completed their teaching practicum (PPL) at a multimedia-based school—Madrasah Aliyah Negeri III Malang, Jalan Bandung—did not apply several materials previously taught, particularly those from the Educational Technology course. Third, 65% of 28 students who had completed the Educational Information System Planning course in the odd semester of the 2007–2008 academic year were unable to re-operate (had forgotten) the material taught. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using a qualitative data analysis model. The results of the study show that there are two main reasons why the Tarbiyah Department of FAI UMM emphasizes competence in IT: (1) to support the professional competence of Tarbiyah students in their respective fields, and (2) to serve as a distinctive advantage of graduates from the Tarbiyah Department of the Islamic Education Study Program at FAI UMM, differentiating them from graduates of other Islamic Education Study Programs. Efforts to provide IT competence are carried out through two processes: (1) curriculum design and development, and (2) teaching and practicum in IT-based courses

Abstract

The industrial world, particularly the petrochemical industry, is currently experiencing significant growth and advancement. With this rapid development, companies need to pay close attention to the equipment used in the production process, one of which is the boiler. Boiler is one of the main components in the petrochemical plant, as it serves as the equipment responsible for generating steam. Over time, the boiler’s performance will naturally decline due to continuous operation. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a method to evaluate the boiler’s performance. The performance of a boiler is represented by its efficiency value. This value is essential to determine how effectively the boiler produces steam. The higher the efficiency, the better the boiler’s performance. The boiler at the petrochemical plant under study is of the fire tube type. The boiler efficiency analysis in this study was carried out using the input-output method, also known as the direct method. The analysis was performed by comparing the energy obtained from the working fluid (water and steam) with the energy contained in the boiler fuel, represented by the Gross Calorific Value (GCV). Based on the analysis, the highest boiler efficiency was obtained on August 11, 2025, at 65.326858%, due to the high steam temperature of 224.0875°C. Meanwhile, the lowest efficiency was recorded on August 8, 2025, at 45.810117%, which occurred because the boiler had just restarted after a seven-day shutdown.

Abstract

Abstract: Background: Suicide is a serious global health problem, with hanging being the most dominant method, including in Indonesia. Hanging causes asphyxia through airway obstruction, vascular compression, and vagus nerve stimulation. Risk factors include mental disorders, substance abuse, socioeconomic stress, and family problems. Clinical, forensic, and epidemiological studies are crucial to differentiate hanging from other forms of asphyxia and to develop effective prevention strategies to reduce mortality rates. Case Description: We report a case of death by hanging involving a 20-year-old woman. In this case, it is suspected that the victim's actions were motivated by psychological pressure that influenced her thoughts to end her life. The victim hanged herself using a scarf that she owned and did so in the ventilation of the bathroom door. Signs of suicide were also reinforced by the discovery of previous suicide attempts, in the form of incised wounds on the victim's lower arms and thighs. Ligature marks were found in the form of abrasions that crossed obliquely across the front of the victim's neck. The hanging was carried out by complete hanging because the victim's entire body was hanging freely. Based on the location of the knot, this case is classified as a typical hanging because the knot was located behind the neck. The possible mechanism of death was compression of the blood vessels and asphyxia. Conclusion: Death by hanging is a frequently reported form of suicide and is influenced by psychological and socioeconomic factors. Medicolegal forensic examination helps determine the mechanism and cause of death, which in cases of hanging is usually caused by compression of the neck blood vessels due to the ligature.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of hypertension among elderly people in Kekeran Village, Mengwi District, Badung Regency, Bali. This study uses an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional research design. The results show that most elderly people in Kekeran Village are overweight, accounting for 53.15% of the total respondents. Meanwhile, 20.28% of the elderly were underweight, 18.18% had normal nutritional status, and 8.39% were obese. This condition illustrates that being overweight is still a prominent nutritional problem among the elderly in this region. Based on blood pressure distribution, most respondents were classified as having stage I hypertension (39.16%), followed by prehypertension (36.36%), stage II hypertension (18.88%), and only 5.59% of the elderly had normal blood pressure. This indicates that high blood pressure remains a fairly common health problem among the elderly in Kekeran Village. The results of the analysis using Spearman's rank correlation test showed a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in Kekeran Village with a p-value of 0.003 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.244. This relationship is positive with weak strength, which means that an increase in nutritional status or body mass index is directly proportional to an increase in the risk of hypertension.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the relationship between community attitudes and mosquito nest eradication (PSN) activities in Gampong Pusong Baru, Banda Sakti District, Lhokseumawe City. The research employed a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all residents of Gampong Pusong Baru, totaling 235 respondents. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that most respondents were aged 26–35 years (52.3%) and had a secondary education level (60.4%). Based on the analysis, there was a significant relationship between community attitudes and PSN activities, with a p-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05. Communities with positive attitudes were more likely to engage in PSN activities (38.7%) compared to those with negative attitudes (7.2%). It can be concluded that community attitudes play an important role in the success of PSN programs. Therefore, efforts to enhance knowledge and provide continuous education are necessary to foster positive community attitudes toward mosquito nest eradication, in order to prevent vector-borne diseases such as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

Abstract

The substructure of bored pile foundations is one type of deep foundation commonly used in high-rise building construction, particularly in areas with low soil bearing capacity, such as the ARC 100 Gubeng Construction Project in Surabaya. Both primary and secondary data were collected through interviews with contractors and project service providers involved in the foundation work. Based on the observations conducted, the bored pile foundation work utilized the wet boring method using Zoomlion heavy equipment, beginning with the preparation stage, determination of foundation bore points, and site cleaning. This was followed by the installation of temporary casing, foundation hole drilling, reinforcement fabrication, reinforcement placement, and welding of reinforcement joints. Next, a slump test was performed on the concrete mix, followed by the installation of the tremie pipe, concrete casting, removal of the temporary casing, and final site cleaning. The bored pile foundation work for the ARC 100 Gubeng project in Surabaya was carried out in accordance with standard construction procedures. Any factors that could potentially hinder the work were promptly addressed. Furthermore, both the contractor and consultant agreed that workplace safety must always remain a top priority throughout the entire construction process. Abstract

This research aimed to identify the flavonoid compoxunds and test the antioxidant activity of the ethyl acetate extract of matoa leaves (Pometia pinnata). The extraction was performed xusing the maceration method with ethyl acetate as the solvent. Phytochemical screening was condxucted to determine the groxups of secondary metabolites, while specific identification of flavonoids was carried oxut xusing Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The antioxidant activity was tested xusing the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging method, measxured with a XUV-Vis spectrophotometer to determine the Inhibitory Concentration 50 (IC50) valxue. The phytochemical screening resxults indicated that the extract positively contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids. The TLC test also confirmed the presence of flavonoid compoxunds. The antioxidant test resxults showed that the ethyl acetate extract of matoa leaves possesses strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 valxue of 72.32 µg/mL. This valxue indicates that the matoa leaf extract has the potential to be developed as a soxurce of natxural antioxidants.

Abstract

More than 40% of neonatal hypotension cases are managed with inotropes; however, recent evidence indicates that inotrope administration, rather than hypotension itself, is independently associated with an increased risk of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) after adjustment for confounding factors. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between inotrope use and the occurrence of IVH among preterm neonates. The study followed PRISMA guidelines. A systematic literature search was conducted through PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The methodological quality of each study was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) for case-control and cohort designs. Relevant data were extracted for qualitative and quantitative synthesis. Meta-analysis was performed using a random-effects model based on adjusted odds ratios (aORs) reported in each study, and the results were presented as pooled aORs with 95% confidence intervals. Eight studies met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis showed that inotrope use was significantly associated with a higher risk of IVH in preterm neonates, including IVH of any grade (pooled OR 2.03, 95% CI 1.25-3.29) and severe IVH (pooled OR 2.00, 95% CI 1.33-3.02). Overall, inotrope use doubled the risk of IVH (pooled OR 2.00, 95% CI 1.48-2.70). These findings emphasize the need for cautious and strictly indicated inotrope administration along with standardized hemodynamic management.
