Abstract

This research aims to map trends, main themes, and scientific contributions in film studies in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) through a bibliometric approach. This study uses the PRISMA approach to compile a systematic literature selection, with Scopus data-based bibliometric analysis. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer to map thematic clusters and publication trends. Bibliometric analysis of 253 publications from the Scopus database revealed a significant increase in the trend of film research in the context of artificial intelligence since 2016, with a sharp spike in 2024. Eight main thematic clusters were successfully identified, including posthumanism, gender representation, machine learning-based film production, immersive cinema, deepfake ethics, AI literacy, and distribution through social media. The study also highlights the most influential scientific contributions, also examine the ethical, cultural, and social dimensions in depth. These findings suggest that cinema in the AI era is evolving as a discursive space that reflects technological transformation while opening up complex ethical and cultural debates. The results of this study show that artificial intelligence has significantly influenced the landscape of film research, both in terms of production and representation, as well as driving academic attention to ethical, cultural, and technological aspects of contemporary cinema.

Abstract

Motherhood has increasingly become a topic shaped and negotiated in digital spaces, especially on social media. This study examines how Instagram shapes the construction of the "ideal mother" through the experiences of young mothers who actively use the platform. Using a qualitative approach, this research explores the negotiation process between societal expectations and personal realities in mothering. In-depth interviews with selected informants reveal that while Instagram serves as a practical and inspirational source of parenting knowledge, it also imposes emotional pressure due to the prevailing social norms of ideal motherhood. The findings suggest that young mothers actively filter and adapt information according to their unique family contexts, demonstrating agency in their engagement with digital motherhood narratives. Furthermore, this study highlights Instagram's dual role in shaping young mothers' behavior. While it offers a supportive community and valuable parenting insights, it also fosters unrealistic expectations that can lead to stress and anxiety. Understanding this dynamic is essential for future discussions on media literacy and the psychological effects of social media on parenting identities. This study contributes to the broader discourse on digital motherhood and offers insights into how social media platforms can be leveraged to provide more balanced and diverse representations of motherhood.

Abstract

Hayara.id is a premium hijab brand targeting digitally native Muslim women in Indonesia, whose website experienced a significant decline in user sessions and engagement. This study investigates how theory-driven website interventions can enhance digital brand recognition by integrating behavioral, algorithmic, emotional, and symbolic communication strategies. The research pursues two objectives: (1) to develop a communication-based website branding framework and (2) to evaluate the impact of a strategic website redesign on brand awareness and user engagement. To achieve these objectives, the study introduces the Digital Resonance Branding Model (DRBM), synthesizing the AISAS model, Algorithmic Identity Theory, Communicative Figurations, and Emotional Branding. A three-month intervention comprised SEO-oriented information architecture restructuring, UX/UI optimization aligned with AISAS stages, emotional storytelling through blog and visual content, and symbolic brand identity refinement. Using a practice-based research approach, findings were triangulated across Google Analytics, Hostinger Builder metrics, and stakeholder interviews. Post-intervention results show a 206% increase in sessions, a 74% rise in unique visitors, a 48% reduction in bounce rate, and a 1266% increase in checkout clicks. These findings indicate that digital brand awareness is shaped by recursive behavioral, algorithmic, and symbolic interactions rather than visibility alone. DRBM offers a replicable framework for emerging fashion brands seeking emotionally resonant, identity-driven web experiences.

Abstract

Village-based ecotourism in Bali, exemplified by Penglipuran and Tenganan Aga, blends environmental stewardship with living culture. This study aims to analyze the resonance of ecotourism content from traveler reviews on TripAdvisor to (1) assess alignment between promoted ecotourism values and visitors' lived experiences, (2) examine content patterns reflecting sustainable tourism practices, and (3) formulate strategic recommendations for digital ecotourism communication. Using netnography, we collected and cleaned 946 reviews (2015–2025) and applied thematic and sentiment analysis, triangulated with document analysis (promotional materials), in-depth interviews with village managers, and participant observation during field visits. Most reviews are positive, highlighting authentic culture and cleanliness. Word clouds and K-Means clustering reveal dominant themes: traditional architecture, community life, environmental upkeep, alongside minor critiques of commercialization and crowding. Hierarchical charts show different emphases: Penglipuran leads on environmental conservation, while Tenganan centers on cultural preservation and community economy. A connection map shows how culture, environment, and the local economy interrelate to shape experience. Sentiment analysis confirms a valence of >90% positive/neutral, with strong affective engagement toward sustainability initiatives. We conclude that user-generated content mirrors the success of both villages in delivering authentic ecotourism, while underscoring the need to manage overtourism (Penglipuran) and balance authenticity with commerce (Tenganan). Strategic recommendations are offered for sustaining digital communication congruent with on-site practice. Findings advance digital tourism communication theory, particularly e-WOM dynamics in community-based ecotourism, with practical implications for destination branding and sustainable tourism management.

Abstract

River degradation poses a serious threat to ecological stability and global public health. While environmental awareness continues to grow, it is often not accompanied by commensurate concrete action. This study aims to identify factors that bridge the gap between awareness and action in river rehabilitation programs. Through a systematic literature review of 46 academic articles (2020–2025) grounded in the SMCR communication model, this study examines the mechanisms that translate awareness into collective action. Key findings reveal a "Participation Paradox". Developed countries employing sophisticated campaigns experience a larger awareness-action gap due to one-way communication practices. Conversely, developing countries are more successful because they employ a dialogic approach based on community and trust. The "collective storytelling" mechanism, pioneered by community leaders, has proven to be the most effective in converting awareness into concrete action because it fosters trust and shared agency. In conclusion, dialogue and trust are far more crucial than technological sophistication. Management institutions must shift their role from mere information disseminators to dialogue facilitators. This study encourages practitioners to adopt community-based strategies and engage local leaders as catalysts for behavior change for successful river restoration.

Abstract

While swift developments in online photojournalism redefine visual framing to alter audience perception, a general synthesis of systemic biases remains uncharted territory. This study fills this gap by mapping the research landscape and conducting a bibliometric and systematic review to identify publication trends and thematic clusters. A systematic literature review based on PRISMA and bibliometric analysis with VOSviewer is used to analyze 163 articles collected from the Scopus database, resulting in 37 articles for the final review. It analyses publication patterns, leading topics and institutions, geographical distributions, and key thematic clusters. Findings show a critical transformation from mono- to multimodal spaces and recurrent worthy versus unworthy´ binary structures in the depiction of refugees that, by virtue of framing them as massified´ people rather than humans, assign non-European others to the status of a non-person. One major contribution is the theoretical integration of infrahumanization into framing literature, highlighting how online platforms embed social prejudice. In practice, the study provides ethical implications for newsrooms to limit the use of dehumanizing imagery. It suggests that further research should examine how algorithmic distribution and AI-generated content affect the visual.

Abstract

The increasing presence of international students in Indonesian pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) has created new spaces for intercultural interaction. However, existing research on pesantren has largely focused on religious pedagogy and institutional traditions, with limited attention to intercultural adaptation and identity negotiation within these settings. Drawing on intercultural communication and identity negotiation theory, this study examines how international students at Pesantren Al-Fatah Temboro construct and renegotiate their identities through everyday religious, linguistic, and social practices. The study employs a qualitative case study approach based on in-depth interviews with international students. The analysis explores how students navigate linguistic hierarchies (Indonesian and Javanese), local social norms, food practices, and communal religious activities, including the khuruj (stepping forth) program. The findings show that adaptation extends beyond cultural adjustment to involve continuous negotiation of belonging, authority, and religious identity within the pesantren community. Communal routines and outreach activities function as experiential intercultural learning spaces that foster cultural sensitivity and communicative competence. Conceptually, this study extends intercultural adaptation research by situating identity negotiation within a faith-based residential education context. The findings highlight how religious communal practices serve as institutional mechanisms that shape intercultural competence and offer insights for developing inclusive strategies in transnational Islamic education.

Abstract

This study examines how Generations Z, Millennials, and X perceive source credibility within an integrated media ecosystem, where traditional and digital platforms converge amid collapsing institutional trust. While the existing literature addresses the crisis of trust in institutionalized media, little research has examined how generational cognitive preferences translate into specific behaviors within actual integrated settings, specifically the mechanisms of bridging or bypassing information sources. The findings reveal distinct patterns: Gen X predominantly bypasses digital sources due to heavy reliance on institutions, and Millennials systematically cross-validate to build “bridges.” In contrast, Gen Z, driven by networked authenticity, bypasses traditional outlets. These findings are crucial for media literacy and legacy media adaptation in the age of audience fragmentation. This study proposes a hybrid communication framework for media organizations to regain relevance across diverse age groups.

Abstract

Behavioral and mental health issues among students have become an urgent concern in education, particularly in the post-pandemic era and amid increased exposure to digital technology. Early detection efforts continue to face challenges such as limited resources, stigma, and lack of interactive, communicative digital media. This study aims to develop a persuasive communication–based digital technology model within the PROTEKSI Fammi Program to optimize the early detection of students’ behavioral and mental health problems. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach using an explanatory sequential design. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with teachers, parents, counselors, and students to identify communication needs and barriers. Quantitative data were obtained through surveys measuring changes in users’ knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral intentions following use of the PROTEKSI digital prototype. The findings show that the proposed model increases user engagement, enhances awareness of early mental health indicators, and strengthens the involvement of teachers and parents in supporting students. The integration of credible, interactive, and empathetic messages was found to improve the effectiveness of early detection. This study contributes to the development of a humanistic and applicable digital intervention model and provides implications for future research in technology-based mental health.

Abstract

The fact is that government performance must be monitored. The media is one of the supervisors, and journalism is a form of such supervision. This phenomenon is evident in the Merdeka Barat Forum 9 (FMB9) of the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital. In FMB9, the media and government public relations collaborated to form a newsroom and carry out journalism in general. This study aimed to describe, analyze, and criticize the construction of collaborative journalism between the media and government public relations that had occurred in the FMB9. This study found several points using participant observation, interviews, and library research. In the digital era, government public relations must be able to produce news similarly to mainstream media. There is a high demand for media news production and dissemination in this era. Collaboration between the media and government public relations represents a new practice of journalism. The collaboration of media with government public relations in journalism is a relatively new phenomenon in Indonesia. The implications of this study show the emergence a new type of collaborative journalism called government public relations journalism.
