Abstract

This article discusses the impact of mental health and academic stress on students' academic performance through a literature review. The objective of this study is to identify how mental well-being and stress levels affect learning effectiveness and academic achievement. The method employed is a literature analysis of various studies that explore the relationship between mental health, academic stress, and learning outcomes. The findings indicate that stable mental health contributes positively to increased focus, motivation, and comprehension of learning materials. Conversely, unmanaged stress can impair concentration, reduce interest in learning, and negatively affect academic results. However, in certain cases, academic stress (when experienced at optimal levels, or eustress) can serve as a motivating factor that enhances academic performance. Factors such as the learning environment, social support, and teaching methods also play a role in moderating the impact of mental conditions on student achievement. Therefore, it is essential for educational institutions to provide mental health intervention programs, counseling services, and adaptive learning approaches to help students manage stress and improve their academic performance.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of MeTayutay, an e-learning tool designed to teach figures of speech and examines the figures of speech found in selected works of Genoveva Edroza-Matute as supplementary learning material. It is grounded in the TPACK Framework (Mishra & Koehler), Connectivism Learning Theory (Siemens & Downes), Formalist Theory, and Reader’s Response Theory. Analysis identified metaphor, paradox, hyperbole, synecdoche, metonymy, simile, rhetorical question, personification, and euphemism in Matute’s works, with metaphor being the most frequently used. These works serve as valuable resources for teaching figurative language. Additionally, MeTayutay proves to be an effective digital instructional tool for improving students’ understanding of figures of speech, reinforcing their learning through interactive and supplementary content.

Abstract

The study aimed to assess Teacher Burnout (Personal Accomplishment, Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization), qualifications, and experience, as well as its effectiveness among secondary school teachers in the Purulia district of West Bengal, India. A sample of 100 secondary school teachers was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Statistical analyses, including t-tests, correlation, and linear regression, were used to analyse the data. The study revealed that highly qualified teachers were more effective, while less experienced teachers demonstrated effectiveness, particularly in adopting innovative teaching methods in alignment with the feedback. This study has found that personal accomplishment showed a strong positive correlation with teacher effectiveness, highlighting the importance of strategies to mitigate burnout factors. While emotional exhaustion and depersonalization did not directly impact effectiveness, its’ addressed burnout contributors are crucial for optimal performance. The educational implications are that hiring and retaining highly experienced teachers first and establishing mentorship programs to assist less experienced teachers are recommended. The study concludes that burnout significantly diminishes the effectiveness of teachers by impairing cognitive function, emotional regulation and overall job performance.

Abstract

Despite global advocacy for educational equity, many educational systems across the world continue to fail in providing a truly inclusive education especially directed to disadvantaged learners like those from low-income families, and those from ethnic and racial minorities who may encounter systemic bias, thus exacerbating cycles of social inequity. This raises critical concern about the systemic barriers faced by minoritized learners such as persistent issue of underrepresentation, economic disparities, discrimination and bias, and unequal access to resources, and the broader implications of these barriers on social development, which consequently limits their potential for personal and social advancement. This review paper examines how inclusive education rooted in equity-focused policies and practices can empower marginalized learners by enhancing their academic and career opportunities, thereby advancing social mobility, this, in turn, ensures broader social development by reducing inequalities and promoting inclusive growth. The method adopted to examine this topic is literature-based analyses, which will help to build a comprehensive understanding of the issues raised, identify effective strategies, and recognize areas needing improvement for further study. The paper concludes that there is need for widespread policy changes and a concerted effort by educators, policymakers, and other critical stakeholders to prioritize inclusivity in education, to create equitable, socially responsible education systems that leave no learner behind, reduce inequalities and broaden social development which represents the broad improvements in societal well-being and progress that arise when all individuals have equitable opportunities to succeed.

Abstract

Community education development requires the active involvement of local leaders who understand the social, cultural and potential context of their areas. However, the dynamics of the role of local leaders are often not revealed in depth, especially in facing challenges and opportunities at the community level. This study aims to comprehensively uncover the roles and strategies of local leaders in developing community education. The research approach used a qualitative method with a phenomenological analysis design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation and documentation studies with local leaders, community leaders and community education program managers. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of reduction, presentation and conclusion drawing, with data validity tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results show that local leaders play the role of mobilizers, facilitators, mediators and innovators in the development of community education. The success of these roles is influenced by the ability to build trust, optimise social capital and integrate local wisdom in education programs. The main challenges faced include limited resources, resistance to change and limited policy support. However, adaptive and collaborative strategies can overcome these obstacles. In conclusion, the dynamic and adaptive role of local leaders is a key factor in the success of community-based education. Future research is recommended to explore collaborative leadership models across regions to expand the impact of community education development.

Abstract

This systematic literature review is a study of the opportunities, difficulties, and educational implications of adopting artificial intelligence (AI) in mathematics education at the tertiary level in Timor-Leste. The review incorporates the international evidence collected based on 31 peer-reviewed studies published between 2016–2025 and presents it, given the realities of a higher education system in a developing country. These results demonstrate that AI, especially large language models like ChatGPT, has significant potential in terms of personalised instruction, customised feedback, and additional tutoring, which would solve the issue of teacher shortages and increase student interest. Despite these, there are still several obstacles, which include threats to academic integrity, algorithm biases, misalignment between cultures/languages, and a lack of infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. The review highlights the necessity of culturally responsive AI design and the development of ethical literacy among educators and learners, as well as the need to adapt to local pedagogical models to ensure equitable and effective application. It finds that AI can be a game changer in mathematics education in Timor-Leste, which should be implemented strategically, in a context-sensitive way, and through strong policies, infrastructure investment, and long-term teacher education leadership.

Abstract

This article examines the impact of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) on elementary students’ learning outcomes in social studies through a literature review. The objective of this study is to identify how PjBL influences cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development, as well as creativity, motivation, collaboration, and communication skills. The method employed is a systematic analysis of 16 studies that investigate the implementation of PjBL in elementary classrooms. The findings indicate that PjBL enhances students’ understanding, retention, and application of material, promotes active engagement, and fosters 21st-century skills such as creativity and teamwork. The integration of interactive and visual learning media further strengthens learning effectiveness. However, challenges such as time constraints, large class sizes, and unequal group contributions may limit PjBL’s effectiveness if not properly addressed. Therefore, careful project planning, teacher guidance, and appropriate instructional media are essential to maximize PjBL’s benefits and support the holistic development of elementary students.
