Abstract

Leftover rice is one type of organic waste that can be recycled. However, people generally throw leftover rice into the trash. If this waste is left unattended, it will cause an unpleasant odor and can pollute the environment. One solution to overcome this problem is to create liquid local microorganisms that can be used as liquid organic fertilizer (POC). This organic fertilizer can enhance plant growth. Therefore, it needs to be developed as an environmentally friendly organic fertilizer. An activity that can be carried out is to conduct training on making POC from leftover rice for women in Dusun IVB Karang Sari, Jatimulyo District, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge and skills in making Liquid Organic Fertilizer from leftover rice. The results of this community service activity show an increase in knowledge and skills, as seen from the pre-test results of 70.81 and the post-test results of 91.35. There was an increase of 20.54 points. The sustainability of this activity is the wpmen in Dusun IV B Karang Sari can make Liquid Organic Fertilizer from leftover rice and use it for their plants.

Abstract

Household waste is one of the major contributors to environmental problems in densely populated areas, including Kenangan Village in Percut Sei Tuan District. Limited waste management systems have led to the accumulation of organic waste, environmental pollution, and declining public health. At the same time, the rising cost of commercial animal feed has become an economic burden for low-income families. This community service program aims to provide an integrated solution through training on Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae cultivation to convert organic waste into animal feed and organic fertilizer. The implementation methods included lectures, discussions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and field mentoring. The results indicate an improvement in the community’s understanding of organic waste processing, significant reduction of organic waste volume, and the production of maggot culture as livestock feed and organic fertilizer. In addition, participants were motivated to initiate small businesses based on maggot production and its residue. This program has proven to be effective as a circular economy solution that integrates waste management, household economic improvement, and community empowerment. The activity is recommended for broader and continuous implementation.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance elementary school teachers’ competence in utilizing PhET Interactive Simulations as a virtual laboratory tool in science learning, particularly on the topic of “Changes in the States of Matter.” The program employed a workshop-based training model combined with two weeks of guided mentoring to ensure effective classroom implementation. The activities included technical training on operating PhET simulations, pedagogical training on designing inquiry-based lesson plans (RPP) and student worksheets (LKPD), independent practice sessions, and evaluation through pretest–posttest assessments and classroom observations. The results indicate a significant improvement in teachers’ technical and pedagogical skills, demonstrated by their ability to operate simulations independently, develop inquiry-oriented LKPD aligned with PhET features, and integrate simulations into structured inquiry learning steps. Classroom implementation further showed that PhET-based LKPD effectively increased students’ engagement, motivation, and conceptual understanding. In addition, post-training mentoring supported teachers in overcoming technical challenges and promoted sustainability of virtual laboratory practices at the school level. Overall, the program successfully strengthened teachers’ instructional capacity and supported more active, exploratory, and inquiry-based science learning aligned with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (KKN) activity focused on assessing the effectiveness of biogas technology socialization as a follow-up to the construction of low-cost biogas installations using plastic water tanks in Teritip Village, RT 14. The dissemination was carried out at SMP Negeri 13 Balikpapan through interactive counseling methods, which included showing a video demonstration of the installation's flame and conducting a quiz with prizes to increase student engagement. The KKN team also provided a guidebook as feedback to the school on the use of organic waste in the school environment. The activity was evaluated through a questionnaire filled out by 28 students. The results showed that 53.6% of students achieved the highest level of understanding (score 5) about how biogas works, and 82.1% expressed interest in learning more. These findings confirm that an educational approach combining visual demonstrations and active interaction is effective in improving energy literacy and encouraging student interest in renewable energy technology.  Translated with DeepL.com (free version).

Abstract

Communities have long recognized the sugar palm (Arenga pinnata Merr.) as a plant that produces various economically valuable products, particularly for the craft and food industries; however, its development and cultivation have received relatively little attention. In Sidokaton Village, Gisting District, Tanggamus Regency, the sugar palm is one of the leading local commodities widely cultivated by farmers. Most farmers process sugar palm into palm sugar and kolang-kaling, while the sap is commonly used only as a fresh beverage with a low selling price that fluctuates significantly during the harvest season. This condition highlights the need for innovations in utilizing sugar palm sap to increase its added value for farmers. This community service activity introduces an innovation in processing sugar palm sap into Nata de Legen as an alternative to nata de coco. This innovation aims to enhance the community’s knowledge and skills regarding product diversification of sugar palm and to encourage increased income through higher-value processed products. There was an increase in public knowledge about processing and utilizing palm sap to produce the economically valuable nata de legen. The average increase in knowledge among training participants was 17.33 points. The training activities are expected to serve as an initial step in the development of sustainable local resource–based enterprises in Sidokaton Village.

Abstract

The objective of this project is to provide culinary innovation support for purple sweet potato spring rolls to develop the “Ungu Munchies” MSME. This program, which focuses on improving business capabilities through regional culinary innovation, uses descriptive qualitative techniques, through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. Three flavor variants—chocolate, melted Prochiz cheese, and mozzarella—were created as innovations. Based on consumer trials, the melted Prochiz cheese and chocolate variants were rated best in terms of taste, texture, and aesthetic appeal. Compared to traditional purple sweet potato spring rolls, the flavor innovations have been shown to increase purchase intention and product differentiation while adding value. Product legitimacy is further strengthened by business legality in the form of a Business Identification Number (NIB) and Halal certification. In addition, strategies supporting MSMEs through flavor experimentation, product development, and digital marketing tactics enhance their ability to compete in the contemporary market. This project demonstrates that the development of culinary MSMEs can benefit from product innovation based on local foods.
