Abstract

This study aims to analyze learning needs and design Deep Learning-based teaching materials on the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SLETV). The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, limited to the analysis and design stages. The data sources were obtained through literature studies, including scientific journals, reference books, and previous studies related to Deep Learning, mathematics teaching materials, and SLETV topics. The data analysis technique used was descriptive qualitative analysis. The results showed that SLETV learning is still predominantly procedure-oriented, causing students difficulties in understanding concepts, modeling mathematical problems, and solving contextual problems. Based on these findings, Deep Learning-based teaching materials were designed by integrating the dimensions of meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning through contextual problem presentation, concept exploration activities, discussions, reflections, and problem-solving exercises. The teaching materials were systematically designed to include learning objectives, concept maps, learning materials, student activities, exercises, reflections, and evaluations. These teaching materials are expected to support more meaningful mathematics learning and help students understand SLETV concepts more deeply.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of the use of the Case Method on junior high school students' understanding of mathematical concepts in the topic of number patterns. The study was conducted at a public junior high school in Batui using a quantitative approach of the Quasi-Experimental Design type. The research sample consisted of two classes: an experimental class treated with the Case Method and a control class taught with the Conventional method. Data analysis was carried out through normality, linearity, homogeneity tests, and Analysis of Covariance (ANACOVA). The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference between the understanding of mathematical concepts of students in the experimental class and the control class, where the results of the normality test were normally distributed with a significant level in the experimental class at pretest 0.25 and posttest 0.31 which means > 0.05 and the control class at pretest 0.62 and posttest 0.60 which means > 0.05, while the results of the linearity test in the experimental class 0.76 and the control class 0.31 which means > significant level 0.05 and the results of the homogeneity test with a significant level in the pretest of the experimental and control classes 0.89 > 0.05 and in the posttest of the experimental and control classes 0.20 > 0.05. While the value with the ANACOVA test showed H0 was rejected with a significant level of 0.00 ˂ 0.05 which means there is an influence of the case method learning model on the ability to understand the concept, besides that it can also be seen from the results of the mean case method learning model 77.869 and the mean concept understanding 53.38. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Case Method has a positive and significant effect on improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts in the material on number patterns.

Abstract

Composition of functions is a fundamental topic that is essential for students to understand; however, many still experience misconceptions regarding the order of operations and function notation. This research aims to design and develop Scratch-based interactive multimedia to address these misconceptions and to determine user responses. The research method employed is the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC), encompassing six stages: concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing, and distribution. Research instruments included open-ended questionnaires, Likert-scale closed questionnaires, and interview guidelines involving 14 pre-service mathematics teachers for user acceptance testing. Expert validation results from both content and media experts indicated that the developed media achieved an average percentage of 98,21%, placing it in the “Very Feasible” category. These findings are supported by an average user response of 96.4% (“Very Good”) across all indicators (display, programming, material, language, interest, and usefulness). This interactive multimedia has the potential to reduce student misconceptions, although additional explanations for incorrect answers within the multimedia are required. Recommendations for further development include simplifying mathematical language, adding more in-depth problem solving features, and conducting future research on the effectiveness of multimedia for function composition material.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the quality of objective test items used in summative assessments for mathematics based on classical test theory. This study will examine the aspects of difficulty, discriminative power, and the effectiveness of distractor options. The method used in this study is a descriptive quantitative approach involving 57 students from classes VIII A1 and VIII B as participants. The data used in this study were taken from 25 multiple-choice items on the summative assessment for the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, which were then analyzed using Microsoft Excel. The analysis results showed that the majority of items (56%) fell into the “moderate difficulty” category, while 40% were categorized as easy and 4% as difficult. In terms of discriminative power, 56% of the items fell into the “good to very good” category; meanwhile, 16% of the items were found to have low discriminative power. The effectiveness of distractors indicated that 70.67% of distractors functioned effectively, and 80% of the exam questions had good to very good distractor quality. Overall, this assessment tool is of good quality; however, some questions need to be revised to ensure more accurate and appropriate measurement of student skills.”
