Abstract

This research aims to explore how primary school teachers integrate character education based on indigenous cultures and traditions in elementary school settings. Using a qualitative approach, the study involved collecting and analyzing data through semi-structured interviews with eight educators. The procedure included gathering information, reducing and presenting data, and drawing conclusions to understand how teachers incorporate local traditions and cultures from the Malay and Dayak tribesÔÇösuch as Pengari, Saprahan, Beduruk, Robok-robok, Beroyong and Jagau SungeiÔÇöinto their teaching practices. The findings reveal that teachers adapt these traditions to promote character development, focusing on values like cooperation, mutual assistance, responsibility, social care, and environmental consciousness. This study contributes novel insights into the practical application of indigenous cultural elements in character education and demonstrates how these practices can enhance student development and cultural awareness.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of parents in Agam Regency in preventing bullying against children in elementary schools. Juridically, the state regulates that parents are obliged to maintain, educate, and instill good ethical values to children. On that basis, each parent is obliged to carry out their respective roles to develop children's potential so that children avoid bullying in elementary schools. This research departs from field research with descriptive research type. The subjects of this study were parents of elementary school students in Agam Regency as many as 79 respondents consisting of 60 women (mothers) and 19 men (fathers). The research instrument is a valid questionnaire on the role of parents in responding to bullying. The data obtained were analyzed using the percentage technique. The results of this study reveal that fathers and mothers have played a good role in encouraging the development of children's potential positively. Likewise with the item of equipping children with self-concept strengthening. Meanwhile, the item about parents' actions to provide time with children has not produced good percentage criteria. The wrong perspective of parents in carrying out their roles has implications for the non-optimal guidance, education, and guidance to children in terms of preventing bullying in elementary schools.

Abstract

Immersing learners in English can be a strategy to improve their autonomy in in English as a foreign language (EFL) learning. The objective of the present study is to analyze the improvement in factors related to learnersÔÇÖ autonomy after the English camp, one of types of language immersion programs. This study used a convenience sampling method. The participants consisted of thirty high school students. Therefore, the present study employed a quantitative research design by distributing a set of questionnaires before and after an-eight-day English camp program. The results suggest that the most salient factor that improves after the treatment is ÔÇÿimportant strategiesÔÇÖ┬á (m=3.6 to m=3.75) while factors related ÔÇÿthe learnersÔÇÖ sense of self-efficacyÔÇÖ (m=3.75 to m=3.91) and ÔÇÿthe role of teacherÔÇÖ (m=3.47 to m=3.5) do not suggest a drastic increase. In contrast, the items related to ÔÇÿthe role of the feedbackÔÇÖ (m=3.77 to m=3.58) show a decline. In this sense, the participants seem able to employ various important strategies to advance their language learning progress and improve their confidence while finding the roles of feedback they obtained during the program lessened. The results of this study imply the needs to provide comprehensible inputs to the students so that they can enhance their autonomy. The next study should involve the investigation of the effects of comprehensible inputs in an English camp toward learnersÔÇÖ autonomy.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of Web Blog (WB) practices in enhancing the foreign language (FL) writing skills of vocational high school students in Indonesia. Digital learning, especially web-learning based blog (WB) has been proven advantageous to enhance the second and foreign language skills of Senior High school and university students in Indonesia. However, little research to date has explored whether Web Blog practices are fruitful for vocational high school learners in foreign language (FL) contexts, a population characterized by low competence levels, naughty adolescents, and few opportunities to engage with the FL. This study involved a tenth-grade class (N=18) who participated in a pre-test, received WB-based instruction, and then completed a post-test. The findings revealed significant improvements in studentsÔÇÖ writing, as evidenced by higher post-test scores in unity, completeness, coherence, and spatial order. The implications of these results suggest that incorporating WB into FL instruction can effectively enhance the writing skills of vocational high school students, providing them with greater opportunity for peer collaboration and teacher-led conferences.

Abstract

Character education is critical in developing studentsÔÇÖ attitudes and personalities. One approach that can be used is through teacher interaction with students. This study aims to reveal teachersÔÇÖ approach to interacting with students to develop good character values. This study is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. The research informants were eight teachers who intensively interacted with students for over a year. The data collection technique used in-depth interviews. The data analysis technique used was interpretative phenomenological analysis (AFI), which includes three stages: horizontalization, developing meaning units, and presenting the phenomenonÔÇÖs essence. To obtain valid data, researchers conducted source triangulation. The study results showed that intensive teacher-student interaction, both classically and individually, can provide understanding and foster studentsÔÇÖ awareness of having good character. Therefore, to build studentsÔÇÖ character in a better direction, teachers are strongly advised to constantly interact with students intensively, both classically and individually, to foster sensitivity and studentsÔÇÖ means of having good character.

Abstract

The concept of merdeka belajar is a characteristic of the kurikulum merdeka. This concept is the basis for teachers in implementing learning, including in the IPAS subject. The purpose of this study is to describe how teachers understand, interpret, and apply independent learning in IPAS learning as well as efforts to continue to fight for IPAS learning with interesting presentations. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, documentation at SDN Banaran 2 Kandangan Kediri which were then described qualitatively descriptively, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique, and validated by triangulation. The results of this study show that the merdeka mengajar platform is a medium for teachers to understand merdeka bealajar, reflection on recognizing themselves and their role as educators as an effort to interpret merdeka bealajar, and the obligation to complete independent training on the merdeka mengajar platform; binding policies from structural education authorities from sub-districts and school clusters; and the absence of guidelines that truly integrate science and social studies in learning are the difficulties of teachers in implementing merdeka bealajar. This research can be a consideration for policy holders, curriculum developers, and education practitioners as an effort to optimally implement the independent curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to explore applying ethical values derived from the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad SAW in creating a conducive learning environment at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Payakumbuh, West Sumatera. The research employs a qualitative approach using Hassan Hanafi's hermeneutical framework, which involves historical, eidetic, and practical criticism of hadiths related to teacher-student ethics. Data was collected through document analysis of hadiths and semi-structured interviews with teachers and students. The results indicate that applying ethical principles from the hadiths, such as respect, justice, patience, and compassion, is crucial in fostering positive interactions between teachers and students. Teachers at MAN 1 Payakumbuh have adapted their teaching methods to ensure effective understanding, including using simple language, providing feedback, and accommodating different student needs. The conclusion of this research emphasizes that implementing ethical values from the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad SAW can create a learning environment that supports students' academic and moral development. This study fills a gap in the existing literature by offering practical insights into integrating hadith-based ethics into everyday educational practices in Islamic schools, particularly in Indonesia.

Abstract

Development of the industrial era 4.0 emphasizes the need for higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), especially in science and science learning in elementary schools. The low level of high-level thinking skills and science learning outcomes of elementary school students is a current problem. This research aims to determine the effect of implementing the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) Learning Model on high-level thinking skills and learning outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) of class V students at SDN 18 Kampung Durian. This type of research is quantitative research. The research design used was Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were all class V students at SDN 18 Kampung Durian, totaling 52 students consisting of 26 students in class VA (experiment) and 26 student class VB (control). The data were analize using a prerequisite test in the form of a normality test, then homogeneity, and hypothesis testing using the t-test. The research results show that the application of the STEAM Learning Model significantly improves students' high-level thinking skills and science learning outcomes compared to conventional learning. The average score of evaluation of higher-order thinking skills and science learning outcomes in the experimental group was significantly higher than in the control group. The t-test statistical test of critical thinking skills and students' science learning outcomes showed significant differences between the two groups (Sig.0.000>0.05). STEAM learning can be an effective alternative to enrich students' learning experiences, provide real-world science contexts, and stimulate the development of higher-order thinking skills.
