Abstract

This research has three objectives, they are to explore teacher’s perception, to investigate the implementation, and to investigate challenges of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in teaching basic speaking skills to secondary school students at Radiatul Adawiyah Foundation. By utilizing Descriptive Qualitative method, the research involved one English teacher as the research subject, with the data collected through interviews and observations. The results of the research indicate that the teacher views TBLT positively, recognizing it as an effective method that emphasizes practical language use. The teacher employs various interactive tools and methods, such as quizzes and the Alef platform, to engage students and enhance their language skills. However, the implementation of TBLT faces challenges as well, including students’ limited English proficiency, behavioral issues, and inconsistent attendance of students. These factors hinder the full potential of TBLT in improving students’ speaking skills. Despite these challenges, the teacher remains committed to TBLT, continuously adapting her methods to meet the diverse needs of her students.

Abstract

This quantitative research investigates the correlation between self-efficacy and public speaking anxiety among students enrolled in the Business English Program. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire to explore whether self-efficacy has a correlation with speaking anxiety in students and to identify the dominant aspect of self-efficacy. Results indicate a weak correlation between self-efficacy and public speaking anxiety, with no specific aspect of self-efficacy predominantly influencing speaking anxiety. Hence, it is crucial to note that correlation does not imply causation, and while a relationship exists, it does not firmly conclude that high self-efficacy directly reduces public speaking anxiety. Other factors might also contribute significantly to alleviate this anxiety.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in English language teaching at SMAN 3 Pangkep, focusing on teacher perceptions and challenges. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with three English teachers teaching grades X and XI under the Merdeka Curriculum framework. Findings reveal a partial success in adopting the curriculum's core principles, such as student-centered learning, integration of local cultural elements, and the use of diverse assessment methods. While teachers demonstrated efforts to engage students actively, disparities in curriculum implementation were observed. Challenges such as limited digital resources, lack of training, and infrastructure constraints affected teachers’ ability to fully integrate the curriculum's goals. This study concludes that while teachers at SMAN 3 Pangkep show openness to the curriculum’s objectives, enhanced support in terms of professional development and resources is essential for a consistent and effective application. These findings contribute valuable insights for improving curriculum implementation, supporting a more inclusive, engaging, and adaptive educational environment.
