Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the implementation of a scientific approach and the development of students’ Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in multimedia engineering learning at SMK Handayani. This study uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational method. The sample used in this study consisted of 32 students who took a specialized multimedia engineering subject. Data collection techniques included test observations (pretest and posttest) and documentation. The results of the study show that the average student score increased from 56.25 in the pretest to 82.81 in the posttest. In addition, the highest score increased from 72 to 95, while the lowest score increased from 40 to 68. These results indicate that after learning using a HOTS-oriented scientific approach in the Multimedia Engineering subject, students' abilities showed a clear improvement. Therefore, based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the analysis of the scientific approach and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in multimedia engineering learning at SMK is effective. This is evidenced by the increase in the average score from 56.25 in the pretest to 82.81 in the posttest. Furthermore, based on the N-Gain analysis result of 0.61, which falls into the moderate category, it shows that the implementation of the scientific approach is sufficiently effective in improving students' HOTS in Multimedia Engineering learning.

Abstract

This research addresses the research gap concerning how conversational implicatures shift toward context-dependency as characters transition into adolescence. The study aims to identify the types of conversational implicatures and describe the implied meanings conveyed by characters in the animated film Inside Out 2 (2024). Employing a descriptive qualitative design and document analysis, the research applies Grice’s (1975) Cooperative Principle to analyze the film's dialogue. The findings reveal 84 utterances containing conversational implicatures, categorized into 75 Particularized Conversational Implicatures (PCI) and 9 Generalized Conversational Implicatures (GCI). Particularized implicatures were the most dominant, with the Maxim of Quality being the most frequently flouted (56 data). This indicates that adolescent communication in the film is highly sophisticated and context-bound, favoring sarcasm and irony over directness. The study concludes that implied meanings serve critical pragmatic functions, including hiding vulnerability, navigating social hierarchies, and strategic manipulation during the puberty transition.

Abstract

The low level of public education and high dropout rates remain serious problems that require solutions through nonformal education pathways. This article aims to analyze the effectiveness of face-to-face and online learning in the Paket B Equivalency Program at PKBM Cahaya Ilmu Pekanbaru, along with its supporting and inhibiting factors based on the SNP Process Standards. A descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method was used, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model with source and technique triangulation. Results show that face-to-face learning was moderately effective despite scheduling constraints among working learners, while online learning remained limited due to low digital literacy and unstable internet access. Overall, the learning process has not fully met SNP Process Standards, particularly in lesson planning, formative assessment, and supervision. Recommendations are given to the PKBM to strengthen a hybrid learning model and to the Pekanbaru City Education Office to improve guidance and digital access for nonformal education institutions.

Abstract

Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) is the largest Islamic financial institution in Indonesia, which still faces issues related to customer doubts regarding sharia compliance, particularly in terms of contract transparency, product conformity, and consistency in implementing sharia principles. Additionally, customer satisfaction is not yet optimal, especially in service quality and digital services, which impacts the relatively weak level of customer loyalty. This study aims to analyze the effect of sharia compliance on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty, as well as the role of customer satisfaction as a mediating variable among BSI customers in Surabaya City. This study employs a quantitative method using purposive sampling with 130 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that sharia compliance has a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Customer satisfaction also has a positive and significant effect on customer loyalty and is able to mediate the relationship between sharia compliance and customer loyalty.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the rationality of illegal street vendors on Jalan HR. Soebrantas Panam. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach and a case study type, with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation of informants analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the rationality of illegal street vendors on Jalan HR. Soebrantas Panam is the result of a systematic cost-benefit calculation in accordance with the concept of Rational Choice Theory. The decision of illegal street vendors to continue trading in illegal locations is not simply a spontaneous or reckless act, but rather an adaptive strategy that arises from considering the risks of enforcement, economic opportunities, and the social conditions they face. Rational Choice Theory is able to comprehensively explain illegal behavior, both at the individual and collective levels. Illegal street vendors evaluate risks, assess profit opportunities, and adjust strategies based on their social and economic context. They balance financial gains with the risks of enforcement, utilize social networks to optimize survival opportunities, and make tactical adjustments based on previous experience. This strategy demonstrates that illegal street vendor behavior is the result of rational, adaptive, and systematic calculations.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the high poverty rate in Pacitan Regency and the low graduation rate of beneficiaries of the Family Hope Program (PKH), indicating problems not only in economic aspects but also in social and cultural dimensions. This research aims to analyze how the habitus of poverty shapes the behavioral patterns of PKH recipients in managing social assistance. The study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. Data analysis is conducted interactively using the habitus theory perspective of Pierre Bourdieu. The results show that beneficiaries tend to have a survival-oriented mindset, use assistance for short-term needs, and experience dispositional conflicts within their social capital. The habitus of poverty also reproduces intergenerational dependency and dominates the effectiveness of program interventions. In conclusion, social assistance has not fully succeeded in fostering independence due to the strong influence of habitus that shapes the recipients’ mindset and daily practices. Â
