Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen collaboration between a higher education institution and a village community through greening and tutoring in Nahornop Marsada Village, Pahae Jae District, North Tapanuli Regency. A participatory approach was implemented through needs identification, joint planning, program delivery, mentoring, and reflective evaluation. Data were obtained from field observations, discussions with village officials and residents, activity documentation, and evaluation notes. The results indicate that tree planting and environmental cleaning fostered shared responsibility for village environmental care, while tutoring provided an accessible learning space that encouraged children to ask questions, participate actively, and strengthen their motivation to learn. Community involvement and institutional support were decisive for implementation. However, limited time, changing weather, and schedule differences constrained continuity. Continued plant maintenance and community-based tutoring are therefore necessary to sustain the program’s benefits

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve environmental cleanliness and the aesthetics of the area around the Sunan Giri University Surabaya campus, particularly in Janti Village. The method used in this activity was Participatory Action Research (PAR), which emphasizes active community involvement in every stage of the activity, from observation and planning to implementation. The activities included community service activities such as environmental cleanup, weed removal, drainage repair, road divider painting, and mural creation to beautify the environment. The results of the activity showed significant changes, both in terms of environmental cleanliness and increased public awareness and participation in maintaining the environment sustainably. The village environment became cleaner, more organized, and had better aesthetic value. Furthermore, residents took the initiative to maintain cleanliness independently. Thus, the PAR-based PkM activity has proven effective in encouraging positive change and empowering the Janti Village community towards better environmental management.

Abstract

This community service activity is designed as a primary school-based intervention focusing on strengthening students' social-emotional capacity to prevent verbal bullying. This background is based on the phenomenon of verbal bullying in primary schools, which is often seen as normal interaction, but in reality has a significant impact on students' psychological and social development. In addition, there is a gap in students' social literacy, especially in the aspects of empathetic communication, social awareness, and emotion management. The activity took place at SDN 2 Baubau involving 45 students from three classes. The method used was a participatory-educative approach. The results included improved student understanding of verbal bullying, changes in attitude towards negative behaviour, and enhanced healthy social communication skills. Strategically, the activity is innovative in integrating social literacy as a preventive approach in the elementary school context, potentially contributing to the development of a school-based intervention model.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of a simple reward in the form of candy to enhance students' motivation and participation in Social Studies learning. In the learning process, students' motivation and participation are essential factors that determine learning success. Therefore, teachers are required to create an engaging and enjoyable learning environment that encourages students to participate actively in classroom activities. One simple strategy that can be applied is providing candy as a reward to students who demonstrate active participation, discipline, and the ability to answer the teacher's questions. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings indicate that providing candy as a simple reward effectively increases students' enthusiasm, encourages them to ask and answer questions more actively, and creates a more enjoyable classroom atmosphere. Furthermore, students become more motivated to pay attention to the teacher's explanations and participate actively in Social Studies learning activities. Therefore, a simple reward system can serve as an effective instructional strategy when implemented appropriately and without excessive use.
