Abstract

This article examines the importance of the prophet’s education pattern in the hadith analyzing the prophet’s journey in educating his companions from mecca to medina, from secret to overt, to formal and non formal education, and an explanation of the hadith regarding the prophet’s education pattern at that time. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of library research. The results of the research show that the prophet’s educational pattern is a very important analysis because it discusses the education carried out by the prophet which started from his family to the ignorant into believers, in this case Allah’s words regarding commands emerged. The prophet was to teach and perfect the morals of his people, and the hadiths are evidence of the educational pattern that the prophet had implemented.

Abstract

This study examines the crucial role of Hadith Ahad in Islamic teachings, both in matters of faith (aqidah) and other aspects. If Hadith Ahad cannot be used as a proof (hujjah), many Islamic teachings understood and believed by the majority of Muslims would be displaced. This consequence highlights the importance of understanding and accepting the authority of Hadith Ahad in maintaining the continuity and integrity of Islamic teachings. Rejection of Hadith Ahad would have a broad impact on the understanding and beliefs of the Muslim community. The Mu’tazilah and Jahmiyah are groups that understand religious sources by prioritizing reason, which naturally leads to differences with other groups. This study covers the definition of Hadith Ahad and its authority, the Mu’tazilah and Jahmiyah sects' rejection of Hadith Ahad, and discusses the modern scholars' rejection of Hadith Ahad, especially in the establishment of faith (aqidah).

Abstract

To save hadiths from corruptive and misleading "blemishes," scholars have worked extraordinarily hard in compiling hadiths, developing various knowledge, and creating principles and methods for hadith writing and research. The Kutubu Sittah refers to the six hadith books that have become references for subsequent scholars. The study related to the Kutubu Sittah is crucial, considering that many hadith enthusiasts only focus on the texts contained within these collections without delving into who the authors were and what their writing methodologies were. The research includes several primary reference books such as Kutubu Sittah, al-Hadith wal-Muhaddithun, Fii Rihab as-Sunnah al-Kutub as-Sihhah, Atlas Hadith an-Nabawiyyah, and others, utilizing a library research approach. The existence of these six hadith books in the hands of Muslims today is tangible evidence of how Allah has preserved the Sunnah and the scholars. Although these scholars are noble, they are not free from mistakes, and thus, in compiling these books, some errors were inevitable. However, even though some hadiths are considered weak by some scholars, their nobility will never diminish.

Abstract

This study seeks to explore the commitment of hadith scholars to the Companions and influential figures among the tabi'in during the first century of the Islamic calendar through the process of codifying and transmitting hadith. Hadith represents a primary source of Islamic teachings following the Quran, and its codification is crucial for preserving the integrity and authenticity of Islamic doctrines. During the early period of Islam, the Prophet's companions and the tabi'in played pivotal roles in disseminating and safeguarding hadith traditions. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-historical analysis method, drawing on primary sources such as Ashfahani's Hilyatul Auliya hadith compilation, writings of earlier scholars, and secondary sources including books, scholarly articles, and journals. The findings of the research indicate that the companions of Prophet Muhammad demonstrated significant commitment in memorizing, compiling, and transmitting hadith traditions. They employed diverse strategies to guarantee the precision and trustworthiness of the hadiths they transmitted. Similarly, the leaders among the tabi'in, as the succeeding generation, persisted in this endeavor by stressing the significance of verifying and authenticating hadiths until the compilation of collections of hadith books (tadwin/codification). They developed a more systematic methodology in the codification of hadith, which became the basis for the development of hadith science in subsequent periods. This research provides a deeper understanding of the history of hadith codification and the important role of the companions and tabi'in in this effort, as well as highlighting the importance of the methodology used to maintain the purity of hadith.

Abstract

Rijal books play an essential role in hadith studies by providing detailed information on the biographies and evaluations of hadith narrators. Through this literature, hadith scholars can assess the reliability and credibility of narrators, which helps determine the authenticity of the hadiths they transmit. This article explores the methodology in rijal books, their relevance in contemporary hadith studies, and the challenges they face in the modern context. The methodologies used include sanad criticism, compiling the biographies of narrators, and evaluating reputations based on scholars' testimonies. Sanad criticism ensures the continuity and trustworthiness of the transmission chain, while narrator biographies provide a comprehensive view of the narrators' lives, education, and activities. Reputation evaluation gathers opinions from scholars who know the narrators. The use of rijal books remains relevant in hadith verification, sanad criticism, hadith education, and academic research. They also offer insights into the social, political, and cultural contexts of the narrators, which are crucial for interpreting hadiths in the modern context. However, there are several challenges in their use, including limited information, the influence of historical context, and the need to integrate modern methodologies. Digital technology offers broader access but also raises challenges of validity and reliability of information. Major rijal books such as Al-Tarikh al-Kabir by Imam al-Bukhari and Al-Jam'u Bayna Rijal al-Shahihayn by Ibn Qirani, as well as other works like Ushul al-Ghabah Fi Ma’rifatil Asma’is Shahabah and Al-Thabaqat al-Kubra, make significant contributions to hadith studies. By understanding the methodologies and challenges in using rijal books, we can better appreciate the complexity and importance of hadith studies in the Islamic tradition. These books remain an important reference for anyone wishing to delve into hadith science and ensure the authenticity and validity of hadith chains.

Abstract

This paper investigates the comparison between Jarh wa Ta'dil and modern Islamic studies in understanding the history of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Utilizing the theory of Islamization of knowledge proposed by Raj Ismail al-Faruqi, the researcher seeks to find a middle ground between these two disciplines. The Islamization of knowledge aims to enrich Islamic scholarship by incorporating not only pure Islamic sciences but also modern knowledge. This involves strengthening modern sciences, problem-solving methods, understanding issues, and providing solutions. Jarh wa Ta'dil, which primarily focuses on the chain of narration (sanad), and modern Islamic studies, which dominate the study of the text (matan), can be synergized and made complementary. This would create a harmonious relationship between the two scholarly approaches. In essence, the historical study of Islam will be stronger through the discipline of Jarh wa Ta'dil, ensuring the credibility of transmission validity, while interpretation will be supported by modern Islamic studies. The conclusion is that there is no need to contradict the two approaches, but rather they can mutually reinforce each other. For example, in the case of Isra' Mi'raj, Jarh wa Ta'dil is necessary to obtain the complete narrative data, which can then be analyzed with modern scientific approaches to further develop and sharpen the understanding of this spectacular miracle.

Abstract

Stress is an uneasy situation challenging the academic staff worldwide. However, many of the school teachers are unable to properly manage the temptations and effects of stress. It is notable that millions of school teachers are suffering from stress, huge money is being spent for caring for stress patients from the academic cycle all in the name of stress. Albeit, stress occur due to external (home or society based factors), internal (school) factors such as classroom disruption, poor infrastructure (teaching aids), poor personality of teachers or students, poor working conditions, etc. Teachers should be provided with adequate support and conducive teaching environment. Teachers shall improvise ways to curtail stress by engaging in prayers, leave, sabbatical, capacity building, healthy eating, physical activities, etc. More importantly, the role of religious interventions could be overstated in tackling stress. Religious communication can use prayers (in all its forms), reading the Qur’an, empowerment, and other religious da’wah methods to surmount stress.

Abstract

Muhammad Shahrur is one of the contemporary mufasirs who uses a linguistic approach in his interpretations. Among them is his interpretation of the concept that there is no compulsion in Islam (Lā Ikrāha Fī al-Dīn). The concept discusses the meaning of freedom, starting from the misunderstanding of some people in interpreting freedom, as well as their confusion in carrying out commands or prohibitions, especially in religion, whether they live it out of obedience or compulsion. For this reason, Shahrur examines the meaning of freedom from the perspective of a Muslim in the Qur'an and a modern scholar with a more moderate understanding. Because freedom is the most important essence for human beings to live their lives, as well as the greatest gift that Allah has given to human beings. Therefore, everything that contradicts or can even deprive human beings of their rights to freedom must be rejected, so that human beings can live their lives in full freedom.
