Abstract

In this context, this discussion covers the history of translation in the Islamic world, which can be divided into various periods including the Ancient Greek-Roman period, the era of Martin Luther, ancient times, the early Middle Ages, the dawn of modern civilization, the Western cultural era, the early modern era, the industrial revolution era, the end of the second millennium, and the 21st century. This research is of a descriptive qualitative nature, using a historical analysis approach to understand and examine events, processes, or phenomena in a historical context. It aims to identify, analyze, and comprehend the changes and developments that have occurred in the field of translation over time in the Islamic world. The primary focus is on the Abbasid Dynasty, which ruled in Baghdad, and the significant role of translation in integrating foreign influences, such as Greek, Persian, and Indian, into Islamic intellectual culture. Translation of scientific, philosophical, and literary works from Greek, Persian, and Sanskrit into Arabic marked the initial step in the development of rich Arabic literature, including works by renowned figures like Aristotle and Plato. This period created a thriving center of Arabic literature and demonstrated the crucial role of translation in bringing forth a variety of intellectual insights.

Abstract

Arabic learning is complex and has many obstacles, requiring all parties involved to deal with it. Today's most crucial obstacle in learning Arabic is that students' awareness of the importance of Arabic has yet to be fully formed. This study aims to describe students' self-awareness in learning Arabic. The research method is qualitative. Data collection will be done using interviews, observation, and documentation. Moreover, data analysis used Miles and Huberman's steps, data collection, simplification, exposure, and retrieval. The result of the research is that students experience de-individuation, which is losing their self-identity and merging with social identity, while the indication is that some students do not know their strengths and weaknesses in learning Arabic. These two indicators result in a low sense of responsibility and individual guilt, so most students have not been able to reflect on what they have and what they do not have and have not been able to evaluate themselves, which means being able to check and correct again the work that has been done.

Abstract

Arabic without the knowledge of Ilm Nahwu cannot be understood. The Matn Alajrūmiyah and al-Jurumiyah al-Jawan are reference books for learning qawāid (Arabic grammar), commonly used in Islamic boarding school environments. All students must study Arabic grammar as a basis for their ability to read the manuscript (turāś). This research aims to explain the differences in the preparation of qawāid learning materials, especially in the Marfūat al-Asmā' chapter in the al-Jurumiyah al-Jawan book and the Matn Alajrūmiyah book so that students can detect the ease of learning Arabic using these two books. The type of research used is qualitative library research with comparative study methods. The results of the research show that both books have complete material regarding Marfūat al-Asmā' along with relevant examples. The difference lies in the additional content, where the author of the al-Jurumiyah al-Jawan book not only presents material on Arabic language rules but also inserts ancestral advice. As for the book Matn Alajrūmiyah, the author only focuses on the rules of Marfūat al-Asmā'. al-Jurumiyah al-Jawan uses the Arabic pegon script with Javanese as the language of instruction, except in examples. The Matn Alajrūmiyah uses Arabic script and Arabic as a whole. As for the style of presentation, the al-Jurumiyah al-Jawan book uses a poetry style that is relatively easy to memorize, in contrast to the Matn Alajrūmiyah, which uses a prose style.

Abstract

Islamic Boarding School Al-Munawwir Krapyak, Yogyakarta, is one of the Islamic boarding schools with various focus programs. This research aims to find and describe the characteristics of Arabic lexicon variations in each program with an anthropological linguistic. The method used in this study is a combination of research and development theory in the social by Sugiyono (2022), ethnographic method by James P. Spradley (2006), and language research method by Sudaryanto (2015). There are three stages, specifically (1) the stage of data collection, which was carried out with active participation observations and unstructured interviews, then (2) the stage of data analysis, and (3) the last stage of presentation of the results of data analysis are presented informally. The results of this research show that the activities carried out by the cottage community are by the original meaning of the lexicon form itself. In addition, the lexicon in this cottage has been affected by regional languages, causing language fusion (linguistic assimilation), whose changes change the form of the language from its original language.

Abstract

This small survey examined the challenges of academic writing for Arabic language teaching students, Department of Arabic Language Teaching at Curup State Islamic University. This questionnaire aims to answer two questions: What academic writing difficulties do Arabic Language Education (PBA) students face, and what factors can cause these difficulties?. The subjects of this study were 20 Curup State Islamic University students in the program of Arabic Education. Two questionnaires were used to collect data for this study. Questionnaire 1 contains closed questions. Two people were asked to fill out similar questionnaires to support the quantitative data collected from the first questionnaire, most of which contained open-ended questions. The results showed that subjects tend to have similar difficulties in academic writing regardless of their previous educational context. The most common difficulties are related to the use of language and coherence. Other difficulties with writing are associated with own results and finding relevant topics and sources, including references and quotes. Another conclusion that can be drawn is that various factors can contribute to these difficulties. The main factors are lack of experience and prior knowledge of academic writing conventions and poor academic writing learning process for students.
