Abstract

Background: Hypertension has been a prevalent condition among the elderly within the community, often receiving insufficient attention from those affected. Based on screening data, it was found that 52.63% of the 57 elderly people in Awiligar had blood pressure in the hypertension category. This high prevalence indicates that this population is at high risk for cardiovascular and kidney complications. Objectives: This community service initiative seeks to facilitate the early detection of cardio-renal risk among the elderly population in Awiligar, Bandung Regency, in light of the high prevalence of hypertension and the potential for chronic kidney complications. Methods: The method for implementing this community service activity consists of Health Screening and Health Education.Result: The screening results revealed a high prevalence of hypertension, with 52.63% of participants exhibiting BP ≥ 140/90 mmHg. Urine laboratory findings indicated significant abnormalities, notably Proteinuria in 42.11% (24 individuals) and Hematuria in 21.05% (12 individuals). Furthermore, a high prevalence of metabolic risk indicators was observed. The elevated prevalence of proteinuria, in conjunction with the high incidence of hypertension, serves as a significant marker of early kidney damage within this population. Conclusion: The conclusion of this initiative underscores the necessity for immediate medical follow-up and community-based health education interventions aimed at managing cardio-renal risk factors to prevent the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease.

Abstract

Background: Education on clean and healthy living habits from an early age is an important foundation for developing children’s character and future health quality. However, the implementation of healthy school programs in early childhood education (PAUD) institutions still faces various challenges, including limited educator understanding and the suboptimal management of healthy learning environments. Objectives: This article aims to describe the implementation and evaluate the effectiveness of healthy school technical guidance (BIMTEK) activities for PAUD educators. Methods: The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a participatory approach through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation of the BIMTEK activities. The participants consisted of PAUD teachers and administrators who were actively involved in the training program under the supervision of the Education Office of Kediri Regency. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Results: The results showed that the healthy school BIMTEK activities improved educators’ understanding and skills in implementing healthy school principles, including sanitation management, environmental cleanliness, and the habituation of clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS) among children. In addition, positive changes were identified in learning practices that became more integrated with health values. The evaluation also indicated an increased institutional commitment to creating healthy and child-friendly PAUD environments. Conclusion: Therefore, the healthy school BIMTEK program was considered effective as a strategic effort to support the sustainable implementation of healthy school programs in PAUD institutions.

Abstract

Background: Water availability is a critical factor influencing the sustainability of community-based economic activities, particularly in fisheries and plantation sectors. In Bernung Village, Gedong Tataan District, Pesawaran Regency, limited water supply during the dry season has restricted the optimal utilization of fish ponds and plantation land, thereby affecting local economic productivity. Objectives: This study aims to describe a community service program integrating geoelectrical groundwater identification with community-based economic empowerment to support sustainable local business development. Methods: The program applied a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach involving community participation throughout field surveys, groundwater-source identification, site selection, mentoring, and evaluation stages. Groundwater investigation was conducted using 1D geoelectrical sounding with a Schlumberger configuration at two observation points. The acquired data were interpreted to identify aquifer characteristics and to support groundwater utilization planning. Results: The geoelectrical survey identified potential aquifer zones at depths of 33.4–81.9 m at Point 1 and 21.5–82.8 m at Point 2, providing a technical basis for groundwater utilization planning. The program further supported the development of plantation land and fish-farming activities while improving community understanding of water-resource management and business development. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that geoelectrical investigation serves not only as an effective groundwater exploration tool but also as a practical decision-support approach for strengthening community livelihoods and promoting more sustainable fisheries and plantation-based economic activities.

Abstract

Background: Strengthening renewable energy literacy at the secondary education level is a strategic step toward fostering students’ ecological awareness and environmental conservation skills. Biogas, as an alternative energy source derived from organic waste, holds great potential for integration into hands-on learning to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and scientific skills. Objectives: This community service activity aims to introduce biogas technology through hands-on, practice-based education and to analyze students’ responses to the implementation of environmental learning. Methods: The implementation followed a comprehensive pedagogical framework consisting of lectures, interactive discussions, and demonstrations, complemented by hands-on biogas production practices. The program involved 50 students who actively participated in all learning activities and practical sessions throughout the implementation process. Students utilized simple teaching aids crafted from fruit waste and microbial activators (molasses and EM4), with program efficacy evaluated through pre-tests, post-tests, and student response assessments. Results: The activity resulted in a measurable increase in students’ knowledge and skills regarding waste categorization and organic waste management. Participants successfully demonstrated an understanding of the fermentation process required to convert organic waste into methane gas using simple teaching aids. Conclusion: The integration of practical biogas technology into the secondary curriculum effectively bridges the gap between theoretical ecological concepts and real-world environmental skills. Both teachers and students benefited from the hands-on approach, proving that localized renewable energy innovations are viable tools for enhancing scientific literacy.
