Abstract

Hemoglobin and hematocrit levels are fundamental hematological screening parameters that are relevant for identifying potential erythropoiesis disorders. An imbalance in these two parameters often reflects undiagnosed anemia, especially in adults and the elderly. The activity was carried out at the Cengkareng Baptist Foundation using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach. The examination was carried out using the capillary method based on Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). Nutrition education was provided using leaflets containing information about the importance of micronutrients for blood formation. A total of 62 participants took part in this activity, with an age range of 23–76 years. Most participants were female (74.2%). Hemoglobin values ranged from 7.4 to 17.3 g/dL, with a median of 11.9 g/dL. A total of 64.5% of participants had anemia. Hematocrit values ranged from 22.0 to 51.0%, with a median of 35.0%. The high prevalence of anemia identified through this screening underscores the importance of preventive efforts through targeted nutritional education. Emphasis should be placed on the adequate intake of iron, vitamin B12, and folate to promote behavior change and reduce anemia risk in the community.

Abstract

Hypertriglyceridemia is a metabolic condition characterized by elevated triglyceride levels in the blood and is closely related to cardiovascular risk and metabolic syndrome. Routine blood tests play an important role in detecting unnoticed lipid disorders, especially in individuals without clinical symptoms. Triglyceride screening was performed on 91 adult participants using the point-of-care testing (POCT) method. Education was provided through leaflets containing information on lifestyle and dietary patterns that affect triglyceride levels. The results were classified and analyzed to identify risk distribution and as a basis for health education. The mean triglyceride level of participants was 137.8 ± 77.1 mg/dL (range 45–463 mg/dL). Most participants showed values within the normal range, but individuals with very high levels were found, indicating hidden metabolic risks that require clinical attention. Early detection of triglyceride levels accompanied by education based on examination results is a strategic step in preventing hypertriglyceridemia. Community intervention through education and the formation of healthy habits contributes to controlling the risk of non-communicable diseases in the adult population.

Abstract

Triglycerides are an important metabolic indicator associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease. Hypertriglyceridemia often develops without symptoms but contributes to the accumulation of atherogenic lipids. This activity involved 104 adult participants who underwent triglyceride level examination using Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). Education was delivered individually using a leaflet containing information on the relationship between high-calorie food intake and increased triglyceride levels, as well as recommendations for replacing energy-dense foods with healthy foods. A total of 47.1% of participants showed triglyceride levels ≥150 mg/dL, while the other 52.9% had normal levels. The average triglyceride level of 159.1 mg/dL reflects the hidden metabolic risk in the population. Education was provided based on the results of the examination to encourage the selection of low-calorie foods and increased fiber consumption. Triglyceride level examination is useful as an early screening for hypertriglyceridemia in the community. Education about high-calorie food consumption plays an important role in reducing metabolic risk and supporting the prevention of cardiovascular disorders through a healthier diet.

Abstract

Mental health disorders such as depression, stress, and anxiety are commonly found among individuals in productive age and can have a substantial impact on their quality of life, both personally and socially. Early symptoms like fatigue, mild anxiety, or sleep disturbances, often go unrecognized as they frequently perceived as minor issues, leading to many cases remained undiagnosed during the early stages. The Community Service Program (PKM) conducted in Grogol Subdistrict aimed to raise the public awareness of the importance of early detection of mental health issues through screening using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42). This activity adopted the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach, encompassing mental health education, standardized screening, and follow-up in the form of referrals to mental health professionals for participants with abnormal scores. Among 67 participants, 6 individuals (8.96%) were found to have mild to severe depressive symptoms, 19 individuals (28.36%) exhibited mild to severe anxiety symptoms, and 2 individuals (2.99%) experienced mild stress symptoms. These findings emphasized the vital role of early education and screening in preventing mental health disorders, also serves as a foundation for fostering sustained public awareness regarding the importance of maintaining psychosocial well-being.

Abstract

Early detection of kidney disease is measured in terms of positive aspects where patient care can be given at the right time, improving a person's quality of life, and intervention can be given at an early stage of kidney disease, thus saving medical costs. The purpose of this activity is to provide education to health cadres to understand early detection and prevention of kidney disease so that the community understands and has knowledge about kidney disease. The stages of the implementation method, namely the socialization and training methods, aim to provide education to the community about the prevention and early detection of kidney disease. Health cadres who participated in PKM before being given education on prevention and early detection of kidney disease were 70% with a low level of knowledge, after being given education on prevention and early detection of kidney disease, it increased to 90% with a good level of knowledge. This proves that health education can be understood by health cadres. It is important to provide education on how to increase family support to help prevent and detect kidney disease early.

Abstract

Dyslipidemia is one of the most common metabolic disorders among the productive-age population and plays a major role in increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease and stroke. This condition often remains asymptomatic in its early stages, making regular monitoring of cholesterol and HDL levels a critical step in the early detection of atherosclerosis risk. Community-based screening programs revealed that 42.25% of participants had elevated total cholesterol levels, while 26.76% had very low HDL levels and 43.66% had low HDL levels. These findings highlight the urgency of early detection of dyslipidemia to prevent long-term complications that may impair individual quality of life. Through timely interventions involving nutritional education, dietary modifications, and increased physical activity, blood lipid levels can be effectively managed to prevent the progression of cardiometabolic disease and support long-term heart health.

Abstract

Stunting is a growth and development disorder in children caused by chronic malnutrition, repeated infections, and lack of psychosocial stimulation. It remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, which ranks second in Southeast Asia for stunting prevalence among toddlers. According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the prevalence was 31.8% in 2020. Although declining, the national prevalence remained high: 30.8% in 2018, 27.7% in 2019, 24.4% in 2021, and 21.6% in 2022. These figures still exceed the World Health Organization’s (WHO) maximum threshold of 20%. The Indonesian government aims to reduce the prevalence to 14% by 2024.One key intervention to address stunting is balanced nutrition education for children and their caregivers. This educational approach targets mothers and local health cadres to increase awareness of adequate and quality nutrition for child development. Community empowerment plays a vital role in this effort, particularly in enabling early detection and response to stunting risks. To support this, a Community Service initiative was implemented through a program by the Midwifery Department at Poltekkes Kemenkes Jakarta III. The team developed and provided educational media to assist communities in understanding and applying good nutrition practices, thereby contributing to stunting prevention at the grassroots level.

Abstract

Pulmonary function disorders are commonly underdiagnosed health issues, especially in urban areas with high air pollution and prevalent smoking habits. Early detection through spirometry plays a crucial role in the promotion and prevention of respiratory diseases such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). However, public awareness and access to spirometry remain limited, including in the Tanjung Duren Selatan subdistrict of West Jakarta. This community service program was conducted using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle management approach. The target population consisted of productive-age residents willing to participate in health education and lung function screening. Spirometry examinations were conducted alongside interactive counseling about respiratory health and risk factors. Evaluation was carried out through spirometry results and participant satisfaction surveys. A total of 92 participants took part in the activity, consisting of 70 females (76.1%) and 22 males (23.9%), with a mean age of 43.78 years (SD ±12.93). The average Vital Capacity (VC) was 2.26 L, Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) was 2.13 L, and Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 Second (FEV1) was 1.95 L. The mean FEV1/FVC ratio was 107.12%, with 100% of participants showing normal lung function. This activity demonstrates that spirometry is an effective tool for monitoring lung function and increasing community awareness. Similar screening initiatives should be expanded to support early detection of respiratory disorders at the community level.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional issue that significantly affects children's long-term growth and development. One of its primary causes is the lack of knowledge among mothers and families about balanced nutrition and the skills to manage household income effectively. This community engagement program aimed to enhance the knowledge of mothers and families through leaflet-based education on child nutrition and household income management for stunting prevention. The activity was conducted in the working area of Puruk Cahu Public Health Center, Central Kalimantan, involving 30 housewives with children under five years old. The education was delivered through lectures using both leaflet and PowerPoint media, and the implementation consisted of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed that empowering mothers and families through leaflet media is an effective educational strategy. After the intervention, participants showed a significant improvement in understanding the importance of early nutritional intake, the concept of balanced nutrition, and simple strategies for managing household finances to meet their children's nutritional needs. In addition, participants became more aware of the family's active role in ensuring quality food consumption for children and the long-term impacts of malnutrition. It is expected that this increased knowledge will enable mothers and families to become agents of change in preventing stunting and fostering an environment that supports optimal child growth and development.
