Abstract

Healthy and balanced nutrition plays an important role in supporting students' physical, mental, and academic health, especially during growth. This community service activity aims to increase students' awareness of the importance of a healthy and balanced diet to support the learning process. This activity is carried out by involving nutrition education and nutritional status checks, such as body mass index (BMI), through a school-based approach at SMA St. Yoseph, East Jakarta. Students who have a healthy and balanced nutritional intake tend to have higher learning performance and concentration. Conversely, students with poor nutritional intake are more susceptible to infectious diseases and have lower attendance rates at school. Education provided interactively can increase students' awareness and understanding of the importance of a healthy and balanced nutritional intake. This is expected to be the first step to prevent nutritional disorders and improve the quality of students' health and academics in the future.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus continues to be an alarming health challenge, especially in the context of public health, where there are so many cases of diabetes mellitus that patients do not know how to manage and prevent it. The aim of this community service program is to integrate local community empowerment with herbal innovations, especially clitoria ternatea and diabetic foot exercises as a holistic way to manage blood glucose levels. The program was delivered in RW XIII of Beringin village, Ngaliyan sub-district and included health education components and training sessions, including the production of herbal products. The initiative changed participants' knowledge and attitudes towards diabetes and enabled them to take control of managing their condition. This model proves that combining traditional herbal innovations with physical activity at the community level can effectively prevent and help manage diabetes mellitus at minimal cost.

Abstract

Background: Low Birth Weight Infants (LBW), defined as babies born weighing less than 2,500 grams, are one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality in Indonesia. The lack of postpartum mothers’ knowledge about LBW care contributes to the low survival rate of these infants. WHO data (2022) shows that 15% of babies worldwide are born with LBW, while in Indonesia, the figure reaches 7.1% (Ministry of Health RI, 2023). Objective: This activity aims to enhance postpartum mothers' capacity in caring for LBW infants through structured and practice-based health education. Methods: The community service was conducted on May 7, 2025, at RSUD Padjonga Dg Ngalle, Takalar. The method included a pre-test, delivery of educational material, practical sessions, and a post-test. Thirty postpartum mothers participated under the guidance of lecturers and health professionals. Evaluation focused on participants' knowledge, practical skills, and behavioral changes. Results: The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge (from 26.7% to 83.3% answering more than 80% of the post-test questions correctly). Around 90% of participants were able to correctly perform kangaroo mother care techniques. Moreover, 85% of participants reported increased confidence in caring for their LBW babies at home after the session. Conclusion: This health education activity was effective in improving the knowledge, skills, and confidence of postpartum mothers in caring for LBW infants. The program supports efforts to reduce neonatal mortality and empowers mothers as the primary caregivers in home-based neonatal care.

Abstract

Degenerative diseases such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus are increasingly prevalent among both productive-age and elderly populations, including industrial workers. This community service activity aimed to conduct early detection and provide health education related to hypertension and diabetes among workers at Pabrik Wajan Matahari, Cikoneng Subdistrict, Ciamis Regency. The methods included physical examinations (blood pressure and blood glucose) and personalized counseling based on the examination results. The activity involved 30 active worker participants. Results revealed that 66.7% had a history of hypertension and 96.7% had a history of diabetes mellitus. These findings indicate a high prevalence of degenerative diseases among workers and underscore the importance of continuous promotive-preventive interventions in the workplace. Follow-up efforts should include routine screenings, healthy lifestyle education, and cross-sector collaboration to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases among industrial workers.

Abstract

Mother is a leader in a family whose duties include managing the family's healthy food and drink needs. One of the nutritious drinks that must be consumed by family members is milk. However, many family members do not understand about pasteurization or heating and non-pasteurization in cow's milk. In milk that has undergone pasteurization, the number of bacteria is less than in milk that has not undergone pasteurization. This community service activity aims to provide an understanding to the mothers of the Posyandu in Celengan, Kaling, Tasikmadu, Karanganyar villages to find out about contamination in pasteurized and non-pasteurized milk, to provide counseling to the mothers of the Posyandu about pasteurized milk and non-pasteurized milk. The counseling method is carried out using the lecture method and explanations about pasteurized and non-pasteurized milk and bacterial contamination in milk with posters and power points. The results of this community service activity are that the mothers of the Posyandu understand the differences between pasteurized and non-pasteurized milk and the presence of more bacterial contamination in non-pasteurized milk. The conclusion of this community service activity is that Posyandu mothers can learn the benefits of pasteurized milk for the body.

Abstract

Hypertension is a disease that does not show symptoms or complaints. However, if detected at an advanced stage of the disease, it can result in disability or death. Hypertension is increasing, especially in the elderly group, known as the Silent Killer disease (Ministry of Health, 2019). In Indonesia and in several countries in the world, hypertension has become a major health problem, where the increase in hypertension cases is estimated to increase by around 80%, especially in developing countries in 2025 from 639 million cases in 2000, and is estimated to increase to 1.5 billion cases in 2025 (Hakim L., 2019). Increasing public awareness can be done through promotive and preventive efforts by conducting early detection of routine blood pressure measurements and compliance in taking medication routinely (Astutiatmaja, 2022). The purpose of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge of the elderly about controlling and treating hypertension to prevent the risk of complications of other degenerative diseases due to hypertension and as an evaluation to increase the knowledge of the elderly to maintain health in old age so that complications of the disease can be prevented in improving the quality of life of the elderly

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a medical condition characterized by an increase in uric acid levels in the blood above normal limits, which can trigger various metabolic complications such as gouty arthritis, urate nephropathy, and cardiovascular disease. In the early stages, hyperuricemia is often asymptomatic, therefore routine investigation of uric acid level are an important step in early detection. The Community Service Program (PKM) implemented at the Asisi Church, Tebet District, aims to increase public awareness of the importance of early detection of hyperuricemia through blood uric acid level screening activities. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach, which includes capillary blood tests with Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) tools and education on risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of hyperuricemia. Of the 68 participants, all participants showed uric acid levels within the normal range. These results emphasize the importance of education and routine screening efforts to maintain uric acid levels within normal limits, prevent complications in the future, and build public awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle to maintain quality of life sustainably.
