Abstract

This study examines the role of intellectual development in shaping human character within the context of modern education. The main issue addressed is the tendency to separate cognitive achievement from moral and ethical formation, potentially leading to intelligent individuals with weak character. The research aims to analyze the relationship between intellectual progress—encompassing critical thinking, problem-solving, and knowledge application—and the cultivation of core character values such as integrity, responsibility, and empathy. Using a qualitative literature review method, this study explores theoretical frameworks and empirical findings from educational psychology and character education. The results indicate that intellectual development, when designed to integrate ethical reflection and social awareness, serves as an effective medium for character building. The process of intellectual inquiry inherently fosters discipline, honesty, and respect for truth, which are fundamental to strong character. The study concludes that a synergistic and intentional approach in education is essential to ensure that intellectual advancement directly contributes to the formation of holistic, ethical character.

Abstract

The main problem that has emerged in the modern era is that many Islamic sciences have developed only as practical disciplines, but their ontological foundations (the nature of the object of study), epistemological (how to acquire knowledge), and axiological (ethical goals and uses) are not discussed in depth. The purpose of this study is to discuss the philosophy of science starting from its definition and relevance to Islamic studies. In addition, the epistemology of bayani, burhani, and irfani in Islamic sciences, as well as the character and purpose of Islamic sciences, will be discussed. The methodology used in this study is qualitative using descriptive analysis with library research in collecting data. The results of this study are that the philosophy of science functions to uncover the ontological, epistemological, and axiological foundations of science, so it is very relevant to Islamic studies because it helps understand the sources of knowledge (revelation–reason–experience), methods of interpretation, and the scientific foundations of Islamic disciplines. The epistemological frameworks of bayani, burhani, and irfani demonstrate that Islamic sciences develop through three paths of knowledge: text, reason, and spiritual experience, which complement each other in building the edifice of Islamic knowledge.

Abstract

The study of the process of codification, standardization, and distribution of Ottoman mushaf has a very high historical and scientific value. Through this study, we can understand how the Companions strive to maintain the purity of the revelation of Allah SWT and emulate their prudence in preserving the main source of Islamic teachings. The methodology used in this study is qualitative using descriptive analysis with library research in collecting the data. The result of this research is that the codification of the Qur'an during the time of Caliph Uthman bin 'Affan is a continuation of the efforts to compile the Qur'an which began during the time of Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq. This codification is carried out due to the increasing expansion of Islamic territory and the emergence of differences in reading (qira'at) among the ummah. Standardization is carried out by establishing a writing system (rasm ottoman) without points and harakat, and maintaining flexibility to accommodate differences in qira'at sahihah. Efforts to codify and standardize during the time of Uthman bin 'Affan became the main milestone in maintaining the authenticity of the Qur'anic text. .

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Total Quality Management (TQM) and character education in inclusive education services at Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Atas (SRMA) 19 Bantul from the perspective of Imam Al-Ghazali’s educational thought. The study is grounded in the view that the quality of inclusive education is not solely determined by systemic effectiveness and academic achievement, but also by the success of moral development and ethical awareness within the school community. A qualitative descriptive approach with a field study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and examined thematically by integrating TQM principles with Al-Ghazali’s concepts of tazkiyatun nafs (self-purification), riyadhah (habituation), uswah hasanah (role modeling), sabr (patience), and muhasabah (self-reflection). The findings indicate that inclusive learning adaptations are understood as expressions of proportional justice and continuous quality improvement rather than mere administrative compliance. Character education serves as the foundation of the school’s quality culture through the habituation of empathy within the boarding school environment and a layered mentoring system based on exemplary conduct. Furthermore, challenges related to limited resources are interpreted as part of an ongoing process of quality refinement oriented toward moral and character formation.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) holds a strategic role in shaping students' morality and character amidst the challenges of globalization and the rise of extremist ideologies. This study aims to analyze the efforts to instill national values, tolerance, and anti-extremism through curricular and pedagogical transformations in PAI. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis, the results indicate that national values can be integrated through Fiqh materials concerning obedience to the government and Islamic Cultural History that highlights the role of scholars in independence. Furthermore, tolerance (tasāmuh) is developed through an inclusive understanding of ukhuwah Islamiyah and religious moderation (Wasathiyyatul Islam). The success of internalizing these values heavily depends on the strategic role of PAI teachers as role models, school headmasters' policies that support an inclusive culture, and strong collaboration between schools, parents, and the community. The implementation of moderate PAI is a crucial key in building students' cognitive immunity against the appeal of radical ideologies to maintain the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia.

Abstract

In the early days of the writing of the Qur'an, the existing mushaf only included consonants without any period or harakat. This causes confusion in reading the Qur'an, especially for readers who have not mastered Arabic in depth. To overcome this problem, Al-Khalil bin Ahmad al-Farahidi, an Arabic linguist, introduced the point system in the 2nd century Hijri. The methodology used in this study is qualitative using descriptive analysis with library research in collecting the data. The result of this research is that Fawatiḥ al-Suwar is the opening part of the surahs in the Qur'an which consists of various forms, such as ḥurūf muqaṭa'ah, expressions of praise, oaths, exclamations, or thematic affirmations. The writing of the Qur'an, both in terms of points, harakat, rasm mushaf, and fawa tih al-suwar, has a very important role in maintaining the accuracy and uniformity of the reading of Divine revelation. The rasm mushaf established during the time of Caliph Uthman bin Affan became a uniform standard for writing the Qur'anic mushaf, adopting the use of points and harakat, and introducing deviations from the standard Arabic rules to maintain uniformity of reading and authenticity of the text. Overall, every element in the writing of the Qur'an, be it dots, harakat, rasm mushaf, or fawatihal-suwar is an integral part that not only makes it easier to read and pronounce, but also enriches our understanding of the meaning contained in Divine revelation.

Abstract

Banjar traditional cuisine is not merely a means of physical fulfillment but also a symbolic medium containing historical, cultural, and Islamic values. This research aims to comprehensively examine Banjar culinary specialties through the lenses of concept, philosophy, identity, and Islamic educational values. Using a descriptive analysis method, this study explores how cooking and consumption practices function as non-formal Islamic education instruments for the community. The results indicate that the concept of Banjar cuisine is inseparable from the principle of halalan thayyiban, where eating activities are integrated with worship and the internalisation of values such as gratitude (syukur), simplicity (zuhud), and social solidarity (ukhuwwah). Identity is reflected through the use of local ingredients and ritual functions in religious ceremonies. Furthermore, culinary traditions serve as a "living curriculum" that instills characters of cleanliness, honesty, and persistence across generations. This study concludes that preserving Banjar cuisine is essential for strengthening Islamic character and cultural identity amidst the challenges of modernization.

Abstract

The Batamat al-Qur’an tradition in Banjar society represents the acculturation of Islam with local culture, embedding profound educational values. The central issue addressed in this study is how Batamat functions both as a religious ritual and as a medium for internalizing Islamic values. The research aims to explore its concept, philosophy, identity, and educational significance. A qualitative-descriptive approach was employed, relying on literature review, document analysis, and historical-cultural studies of Banjar traditions. Findings reveal that Batamat is not merely a Qur’anic completion ceremony but also a means of strengthening tawhid, worship, morality, and social solidarity. The tradition manifests in diverse forms mass Batamat, wedding Batamao, manyaratus, mulutan (Maulid celebration), and Ramadan tadarus each affirming the Qur’an’s role as a guide for life. Ultimately, Batamat serves as a medium for character and spiritual education, fostering discipline, responsibility, gratitude, and communal harmony. This makes Batamat al-Qur’an highly relevant for contextualization within modern Islamic education, bridging cultural heritage with contemporary pedagogical needs.
