Abstract

This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the implementation of the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) at MAN 1 Kota Tidore. The Independent Curriculum is a government initiative to improve the quality of education in Indonesia by providing schools and educators with the freedom to develop more creative and relevant learning processes according to students' needs. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach, participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document study. The research findings indicate that MAN 1 Kota Tidore has implemented various activities such as Improving Students' English Language Proficiency, Grand Reunion, and Collaborative Study with other schools to support the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. The challenges faced include teachers' limited ability to adapt to technology, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and limited internet access. To overcome these challenges, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) provides teacher mentoring and training programs and is committed to improving school facilities, infrastructure, and internet access. With the government's support and the efforts of MAN 1 Tidore, it is hoped that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum can be carried out better in accordance with its objectives.

Abstract

Learning based on local wisdom is very important in creating a generation that is not only academically intelligent, but also has an understanding and appreciation for local culture and traditions. Teachers play a very strategic role in developing this learning. The aim of this research is that teachers can develop learning in each subject that is integrated with local wisdom, so that students can easily understand existing cultures. This research uses qualitative research with a case study approach. The subjects are homeroom teachers and school principals. Data was collected by means of observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this research are that the role of teachers in developing local wisdom-based learning is very large. Apart from functioning as teachers, teachers are also facilitators, motivators and role models for students in understanding and preserving local culture. Integrating local wisdom into the learning process, teachers not only provide academic knowledge, but also shape students' characters who respect and love their culture Teachers also have challenges in teaching local wisdom-based learning, namely the teacher's lack of understanding and knowledge about local wisdom in their area, so it is important for teachers to receive training or provision about local wisdom so that they can more effectively teach cultural values and traditions to students. The next challenge is limited resources and facilities. Many schools on Morotai Island, which are located in border areas, do not have adequate access to resources that can be used for local culture-based learning.
