Abstract

It is undeniable that oral traditions such as prohibitive expressions not only lead to careful attitude, but also presents identities as Muslim societies. While their existence remains controversial in Islamic perspectives, more societies believe in their function and contribution over safety, effectiveness, and discipline in a particular situation. Meanwhile, this study investigated oral traditions regarding prohibitive expressions that protect societies from any hazard during pregnancy, babies and child, and marriage. Intensive interviews were employed to collect data from a number of participants selected through purposive sampling. As for results, it is believed that the prohibitive expressions comprised some contexts such as during pregnancy, for babies and child, and marriage. Each expression was a mixture between traditional culture or local wisdom and Islam as a religion with strict rules. Although the expressions were not identified to emerge in Islamic context as a whole, the societies presumably believed in religious supports that allow them to practice the local wisdom without avoiding Islam

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the Lalmai Hill range in Cumilla, Bangladesh, which was the capital center of ancient Samatata, to uncover new archaeological sites. Over the years a total of 50 archaeological sites have been identified on the hills' flat tops and slopes through multiple phases of exploration conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India's Eastern Circle, the Department of Archaeology and Museums of Pakistan, and the Department of Archaeology under the cultural ministry of the Bangladesh Government. The archaeological sites discovered provide a captivating glimpse into the 7th to 8th century AD. This era is characterized by significant cultural and societal transformations, making it a compelling and pivotal period to explore. While most of these sites were discovered in the northern and middle parts of the Hill range, this study specifically focused on the southern part. Through several field surveys, a new archaeological site was discovered in the south zone of the Hill range. The findings revealed ancient bricks, wall structures, and potshards, indicating the presence of past human activities at the site. These findings provide insights into the historical and cultural significance of the region. Further exploration and excavation of this site and other potential areas within the Lalmai Hill range are warranted to enrich our understanding of the past culture and unearth other hidden treasures

Abstract

Land conversion often causes friction between the government and the community, which leads to conflict. West Pasaman is one of the districts in West Sumatra Province with the highest cases of agrarian conflict in West Sumatra. Data from the Padang City Legal Aid Institute shows that there are 25 cases of agrarian conflict in West Pasaman Regency, one of which occurred in Jorog Pigogah Patibubur. This research focuses on government crisis communication in dealing with conflict. Using the Two Ways Symmetrical Communication model, this research will analyze how the government-society narratives differ regarding the PSN Air Bangis proposal, the process of forming the narrative, and the communication strategy of the Governor of West Sumatra in managing the crisis. This research uses qualitative methods to analyze the management of narratives and conflicts between the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah and the Air Bangis community regarding the change in the status of forest areas that were originally cultivated by the community, to become production forest areas managed by the state. To obtain data, this research used interview and document study methods. Research shows that the crisis cannot be handled optimally because the crisis communication strategies used by the government have not been successful in managing the conflict.
