Abstract

The increasing number of boarding students reflects broader educational demands that require adolescents to live away from their families. Boarding students often encounter different psychosocial environments than family-living students, which may shape their experiences of stress and social support. This study aimed to examine the association between perceived stress and social support among boarding students. A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed with 295 participants recruited from senior high schools. Data were obtained using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Statistical analyses showed that boarding students reported significantly higher stress compared to family-living students, t(293) = -4.215, p < .001. Stress was negatively associated with social support, r = -.472, p < .001, indicating that students with higher support tended to experience lower stress. These findings underscore the importance of fostering supportive networks for adolescents living away from home. Practical implications suggest that schools and caregivers can implement targeted programs to strengthen social resources, thereby promoting student well-being in boarding settings.

Abstract

The tendency toward social media addiction is an increasingly prevalent phenomenon, especially among adolescents. High levels of social media use among adolescents may cause various negative impacts, both psychologically and socially. Self-awareness and self-control are associated with the tendency toward social media addiction. Based on this, the present study aims to analyze the influence of self-awareness and self-control on the tendency toward social media addiction among adolescents in Bangka Belitung. The study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Participants (N = 470) were adolescents aged 13–19 years residing in Bangka Belitung, with daily social media use either less than or greater than three hours. The sample included 180 males (38.3%) and 290 females (61.7%). Age distribution was 13–15 years (n = 170, 36.2%), 16–18 years (n = 140, 29.8%), and 19 years (n = 160, 34.0%). Three psychological scales were used as the instruments: the social media addiction tendency scale based on indicators from Young and Abreu (2017), the self-awareness scale based on the model by Carden et al. (2021), and the self-control scale based on Averill’s theory (Averill, 1973). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to examine the influence of each independent variable on the dependent variable, both simultaneously and partially, to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that self-awareness significantly influenced the tendency toward social media addiction, as did self-control, which also showed a significant influence. Furthermore, self-awareness and self-control simultaneously had a significant effect on the tendency toward social media addiction among adolescents. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening self-awareness and self-control as key psychological factors in preventing social media addiction. Future studies are expected to employ a longitudinal approach or expand the scope of regions and participant age ranges.

Abstract

Counseling services are currently an increasing need in society. This is proof that modern life makes people vulnerable to their psychological well-being. However, current counseling services still have limitations such as distance and time with clients. Therefore, the development of electronic group counseling (EGC) software was the reason for its development to optimize services to clients. EGC development was carried out by adopting the Borg & Gall model. These stages include; 1) literature review, 2) product preparation, 3) first stage trial, 4) product revision, 5) second stage trial, 6) final product revision. The trial was carried out involving 25 guidance and counseling teachers, as well as 500 high school level students spread across Central Java province. The selection of subjects in this research was carried out using cluster sampling techniques. The data collected relates to teachers' experiences in using this application in implementing counseling services. Meanwhile, data from students was collected to see students' experiences in using counseling services with the EGC application. Data collection was carried out using the counseling service satisfaction instrument with EGC which had previously been developed by researchers. The results obtained will then be described quantitatively. The results of this development produce EGC software that is ready to use. This software makes it easier for counselors to plan meetings with clients, assess clients' conditions, meet virtually with clients, and create counseling reports. This software complements the findings of cybercounseling products which are currently being developed in Indonesia. Supporting technological advances, counseling comes with various innovations that are able to create more effective and efficient services for clients.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Iso Trimorogo counseling, a culture-based counseling approach rooted in Tri Dharma Mangkunegaran Philosophy, on reducing violent behavior in high school students by fostering the character trait of fairness. The research involved 120 high school students from Central Java Province, Indonesia divided into an experimental group receiving Iso Trimorogo counseling and a control group subjected to conventional counseling methods. The efficacy of the counseling was assessed using a fairness character scale and a bullying behavior scale, administered pre- and post-treatment. The study employed bootstrapping analysis with 5000 resampling iterations, maintaining an error threshold of 5% (p < 0.005). The results indicated a significant direct effect of Iso Trimorogo counseling in diminishing violent behavior (F = 9.027) and an indirect effect through the mediation of fairness character development (F = 4.026), with a negative correlation between fairness character and violent behavior (R = 0.389). These findings underscore the importance of integrating character education, particularly focusing on fairness, in counseling strategies to effectively address violent behavior in schools. The study advocates for the adoption of culture-based counseling approaches like Iso Trimorogo in educational settings to enhance student behavior and character development.

Abstract

Career planning is an important aspect in the career development process because it will have an impact on the student's future. It is hoped that the existence of Vocational High Schools (SMK) will be a step for the government and schools in providing students who are ready to work. Vocational School is a vocational education institution that has an important role in developing the quality of graduates who are ready to work and respond to the needs and developments of the times. The high unemployment rate in the 15–19-year age group nationally emphasizes that junior high school and high school/vocational school levels are important age phases in formulating future careers. The aim of this research is to determine students' readiness in career planning at Bengkulu Vocational School. The method used is survey research. The instrument developed was an inventory which, using data collection techniques, was distributed to 124 vocational school students via Google Form, which was then analyzed using Rasch modeling. Based on the data obtained, overall self-readiness in career planning for vocational school students is in the high category at 19%, in the medium category at 67%, and in the low category at 14%. Thus, it can be concluded that vocational school students in Bengkulu have not prepared themselves optimally in good career planning. Based on the findings, appropriate management of student career development in schools is needed. So it will have an impact on students' career maturity. A student's career is not only limited to a choice of job and work, but how students can manage and formulate career plans well so as to achieve career success in the future.
