Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the key competencies that students must possess to face future challenges. In the context of mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 27 Makassar, mathematical critical thinking skills are essential and need to be developed to support the advancement of knowledge in the era of globalization. However, mathematics learning often does not fully focus on the development of higher-order thinking skills. A learning approach that integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) can be a solution, as it allows students to understand and apply mathematical concepts in real-world situations. The integration of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics elements in learning creates a more creative, holistic, and relevant learning experience. This study aims to analyze how the STEAM approach can help students at SMP Negeri 27 Makassar see the connections between scientific fields and apply them to solve real-world problems, thereby enhancing their critical thinking skills. This research uses a literature review method. The analysis results show that the implementation of STEAM-based learning at SMP Negeri 27 Makassar is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. The integration of the STEAM approach in mathematics learning makes a significant contribution to the development of critical thinking skills, preparing students to face increasingly complex and dynamic global challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using digital platforms on students' numeracy literacy skills. The research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects were grade XI students at PGRI Tamalate High School Makassar, with grade XI.A as the experimental group using the digital platform and XI.B as the control group using conventional methods. Data were collected through PISA standard-based numeracy literacy test and student and teacher perception questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (t-test).The results showed that the use of digital platforms significantly improved students' numeracy literacy skills, with a significant difference in post-test scores between the experimental (85.14) and control (72.46) groups (p < 0.05). The questionnaire also revealed that students and teachers had positive perceptions of the use of digital platforms in learning. This finding is in line with technology-based learning theory that supports active interaction and student engagement in understanding numeracy concepts. This study recommends the continuous integration of digital platforms in learning, supported by teacher training and technological infrastructure improvements, to improve the quality of numeracy education in the digital era.

Abstract

This research identifies students' lack of numeracy skills, particularly in addition and subtraction, as a major problem. Its aim is to assess the effectiveness of using traditional congklak game learning media in improving numeracy skills, learning activities, and student responses in class II of SD Inpres Karunrung Makassar. With a population of all class II students (28 students), the sample was taken using a saturated sampling technique. The instruments used include numeracy tests and documentation. The research results showed a significant increase in students' numeracy skills, active learning activities, and positive responses from students to learning using congklak media. Thus, this media is effective in improving mathematics learning at SD Inpres Karunrung Makassar, with 81.68% of students responding positively to its use.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the ability to solve PISA model mathematics problems in terms of the adversity quotient. This type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were at least 1 camper subject, 1 quitter subject, and 1 climber subject. The data collection methods are documentation, questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The data analysis method is carried out in 5 stages: data transcription, data reduction, data validation or triangulation, data presentation, and conclusion. The research results obtained are (1) Students with low AQ (Quitter) have abilities up to level 2 in mathematical literacy in solving PISA model mathematics problems. (2) Students with medium AQ (Camper) have abilities up to level 4 in mathematical literacy in solving PISA model mathematics problems. (3) Students with high AQ (Climber) have the ability up to level 6 in mathematical literacy in solving PISA model mathematics problems.

Abstract

This type of research is pre-experimental research involving one class. The aim of this research is to determine learning outcomes by applying the Choose Number playing method in mathematics learning in class IV at SD Negeri 7 Tarowang. The experimental units in this research were 28 class IV students. The research was carried out over 3 meetings. The research results showed that from 28 students learning using conventional methods, there were 24 students in the incomplete category with a percentage of 85%, and 4 students in the complete category with a percentage of 15%. Classically it has not been fulfilled because the average score obtained was 52.10, whereas in learning using teaching aids there were 7 students who were in the incomplete category with a percentage of 25%, and 21 students who were in the completed category with a percentage of 75%. This means that classical learning completeness is fulfilled with an average score of 82.07 which has achieved the expected KKM of 70. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the Choose Number playing method in class IV mathematics learning at SD Negeri 7 Tarowang is effectively implemented.

Abstract

This research seeks to explore the impact of learning using the Lumio by smart platform on students' mathematics retention in circle material in class VIII SMP 01 Islam Jember. The research employed an experimental method with a quasi-experimental design. Posttest only control group. The research sample consisted of two classes, each consisting of 20 students. One class designated as the experimental group using learning via Lumio by smart, while the other class was utilized as a control group using conventional learning. The instrument employed is a test to measure the level of student retention of circle material. The research findings indicated a decrease in scores from pretest to posttest in the control class (51.00 to 48.2), while the experimental class experienced an increase from pretest to posttest (50.00 to 65.75). Analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed significance (0.00 < 0.05).

Abstract

ELPSA (Experiences, Language, Pictures, Symbols, and Application) learning approach is a method designed to improve students' mathematical understanding through direct experience, language use, visual representation, symbolization, and application in real life. This study aims to analyze the effect of ELPSA approach on the mathematical ability of grade XI students of SMK Permata Ilmu. The method used in this research is pretest-posttest design with a population of all students in grade XI of SMK Permata Ilmu and a sample of 32 students. Data were collected through mathematical ability tests before and after the application of ELPSA, which were then analyzed descriptively and inferentially using paired t-test. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the average student score from 55.31 (pretest) to 78.94 (posttest). The paired t-test resulted in a t-count value of 12.45, greater than the t-table (2.04) with a p-value (0.000) <0.05, so it can be concluded that ELPSA has a significant effect on improving students' mathematical abilities. These results support the application of ELPSA as an effective alternative learning method in improving students' mathematical concept understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the self-efficacy of mathematics education students in solving geometry problems. This study is a descriptive qualitative study with research subjects, namely one student with a high self-efficacy classification and one student with a low self-efficacy classification. The instruments used in this study consisted of a self-efficacy questionnaire, problem-solving ability test, interview guidelines, and documentation that had been adjusted to Polya's self-efficacy criteria in problem solving. Based on the results of the study, it was obtained that students' self-efficacy in solving geometry problems met all stages of Polya's problem solving, namely: (1) understanding the problem; (2) making a solution plan; (3) implementing the solution plan; and (4) looking back. In practice, masculine subjects have high confidence in their ability to solve mathematics problems.

Abstract

Indonesian students' performance still tends to be low in solving mathematical problems. In order to explore this issue, further studies are needed to determine the ability of students to solve mathematical problems in various mathematical materials. Therefore, this study aims to describe students' mathematical problem solving ability on geometric sequence material. Descriptive qualitative method was used to describe three research subjects (students of SMAN 6 Bombana) who each represented high, medium, and low ability levels. Tests and interviews were given to collect data which were then analyzed to find out how students' work and errors in solving mathematical problems. The results showed that based on Polya's problem solving indicators, subjects with high and medium ability could solve the problem well, although subjects with medium ability needed two attempts (changing the solution plan) to get the correct answer. Meanwhile, subjects in the low category could not solve the mathematical problems presented in three attempts. In addition, two student errors were found in the solution process, namely: 1) incorrectly using the concept; and 2) incorrectly determining the ratio of the sequence. This study also found a positive participation of adversity quotient as a good mentality for students in solving mathematical problems.

Abstract

The mathematics material that has been taught to students will be a prerequisite for the next material. So if the previous material has not been fully mastered by students, it will affect the mastery of concepts in the next material. In the Introduction to Basic Mathematics course presented in semester I in the mathematics education department, it contains basic materials such as sets, functions, and logic that have been studied in high school. So the prerequisite material that must be mastered by students is the material that has been obtained in high school. What is needed in learning mathematics is to understand the concepts in a structured manner starting from basic concepts to moving on to more advanced material. This study aims to determine the relevance of prerequisite abilities to students' mastery of concepts. The research method used is ex post facto. The subjects of this study were 30 first semester students at Borneo Tarakan University. The instruments used were prerequisite ability tests and concept mastery tests in the Introduction to Basic Mathematics course. The analysis used was Pearson correlation test data analysis using SPSS 30 for windows. Based on the results of the analysis, a correlation coefficient value of 0.796 was obtained so that there was a relationship and significance between the two variables, where the relationship between the two variables was in a strong relationship
