Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of digital learning media use on strengthening the digital literacy of eighth-grade students at SMP Al Islam Boarding School, Cirebon, in Indonesian language learning through drama texts. The research was conducted during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The participants were 25 students from Class VIII D, selected through purposive sampling. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was employed, supported by qualitative data from classroom observation and teacher interviews within a sequential explanatory framework. The primary instrument was a digital literacy questionnaire administered in two stages, pre-test and post-test, measuring four dimensions of digital literacy: digital skill, digital ethics, digital safety, and digital culture. The treatment involved integrating YouTube as a video display medium for drama performances and Google Search Engine as a reference source for collaborative scriptwriting tasks. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics in Microsoft Excel, while qualitative data were analysed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed an increase in the mean digital literacy score from 61.4 to 68.16, with the proportion of students in the High category rising sharply from 24% to 76%, and no students remaining in the Low category following the intervention. Qualitative findings further confirmed increased student enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the learning sessions. It is concluded that integrating digital learning media significantly and positively strengthens students' digital literacy within the boarding school context.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the sociolinguistic variation in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari based on age and gender, and explain its relevance in learning Indonesian language and literature. Research was conducted on the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari as a source of research data. The research population was in the form of all the speeches of the characters in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk, while the research sample was in the form of the speech of the characters that contained sociolectic variations. The research instrument uses the researcher as the main instrument with the help of a data card. Data collection is carried out through reading techniques, tagging techniques, and recording techniques. The collected data was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk there are various forms of sociolinguistic variation that reflect the social conditions of the people of Dukuh Paruk. This variation is seen through the use of local vocabulary, traditional expressions, and forms of speech that show the social identity of the speaker. Based on age, it was found that there was a difference in language use between older characters and younger characters. Older characters tend to use speech that is loaded with the values of local traditions and culture, while younger characters use simpler and more direct language. Based on the type of gender, there are differences in word choice and speaking styles between male and female figures that reflect their respective social roles in society. This research has relevance in learning Indonesian language, especially in novel analysis materials and sociolinguistic studies. The research findings can be used as teaching materials to improve students’ understanding of the relationship between language, society, and culture represented in literary works.

Abstract

This study analyses how Mary Wollstonecraft’s liberal feminism is represented in the film Kartini (2017). It specifically examines the portrayal of educational equality, women’s rationality, and women’s autonomy within Javanese feudal culture. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research draws on dialogues, scenes, character expressions, and visual elements from Kartini (2017). Data were gathered through observation, note-taking, and documentation, and analysed through identification, classification, interpretation, and description, all grounded in Wollstonecraft’s liberal feminist perspective. The findings show that Kartini (2017) portrays liberal feminism through three core elements. First, educational equality is highlighted by depicting women’s struggles to access education within a restrictive feudal culture. Visuals such as books, journals, letters, seclusion rooms, and relevant dialogues illustrate the clash between modern education and Javanese tradition. Second, women’s rationality emerges through Kartini and other women who critically challenge traditions such as seclusion, arranged marriage, and prescribed social roles. Third, women’s autonomy appears in their efforts to assert control over their life choices amid familial and societal expectations. The film presents liberal feminism as an ongoing negotiation with, rather than a full rejection of, Javanese feudal values. Thus, Kartini (2017) frames education, rationality, and autonomy as key tools in women’s fight against patriarchy and feudalism.

Abstract

Grounded in Vandana Shiva’s ecofeminism theory (Staying Alive), this study examines Chandra Bientang’s novel Batu Berkaki to uncover the close link between the oppression of women and ecological destruction rooted in the patriarchal-capitalist system. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research focuses on the mechanisms of women’s marginalization and the vital role of f emale characters in defending the ecology and economy against the pressures of maldevelopment. The findings successfully identify 58 data points divided into two primary axes: oppression and resistance. Within the oppression axis, the study reveals that the environmental exploitation driven by the character Mugyono not only destroys the welfare of Ledok Awu’s residents but also marginalizes women on multiple levels. The tragic death of Mbok Im symbolizes the destruction of the feminine principle, while the social exclusion of Turkiyem and Ruminem serves as a form of symbolic violence meant to silence their voices. Conversely, within the resistance axis, these female characters consistently actualize Shiva’s feminine principle. They act as ecological guardians and pillars of the village’s subsistence economy; Mbok Im establishes a communal learning space, Turkiyem consistently nurtures the land and passes down traditional herbal knowledge, while Lasmi and Kundari smuggle seeds to prevent the village’s food sources from being entirely monopolized by corporations. This research is expected to contribute not only to Indonesian literary studies but also to environmental education practices.

Abstract

Resilience is defined as an individual's psychological ability to adapt, survive, and bounce back from difficult situations, trauma, or significant stress. It's not just about surviving, but also about the process of recovery and becoming stronger after facing adversity. Resilient people are able to manage their emotions and remain productive. In Max Weber's perspective, social action is defined as behavior oriented towards certain goals, whether driven by individual or collective interests. This theory encompasses four main concepts, namely instrumental rationality, value rationality, traditional, and affective action. This study aims to describe the forms of resilience in the novel Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu by J.S. Khairen using Max Weber's theory of social action. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a sociological literary approach. The research data comes from the novel Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu (2023) in the form of quotations that represent the resilience of the characters' social actions in an effort to break structural poverty. The research data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques using non-test instruments, namely observation guidelines. The research data were analyzed using objective hermeneutics. The results of the study indicate the existence of forms of resilience in Max Weber's four types of social action: instrumental rationality resilience, value rationality resilience, traditional action resilience, and affective action resilience, which are causally interrelated. The research conclusion confirms that these four forms of action are the basis for the resilience of the characters in the novel.
