Abstract

The massive digital transformation has reconstructed the landscape of financial behavior and needs of the millennial generation, which is inherently adaptive to technology. This generation has high expectations for financial services that are fast, flexible, and digitally based. This study systematically examines Islamic banking product innovations that address the financial needs of digital-native millennials. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, 30 nationally accredited SINTA journal articles published between 2015 and 2024 were thematically analyzed. The results show that more than 60% of the articles highlight the development of Islamic mobile banking, QRIS integration, digital financing, and collaboration with fintech as key strategies. However, challenges such as low Islamic financial literacy and institutional limitations remain significant barriers. This review concludes that the success of Islamic banking product innovation is largely determined by the synergy between digital transformation, maqashid shariah values, organizational readiness, and progressive regulatory support.

Abstract

Abstract

Digital transformation has significantly changed the landscape of the Islamic financial industry, presenting new challenges and opportunities for the Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB). This study aims to conceptually reinterpret the role of the SSB in ensuring compliance with sharia principles amidst digital disruption. Using a qualitative literature study approach, this article analyzes findings from various scientific journals, regulations, and related fatwas. The results of the study indicate that the role of the SSB, which has so far been normative and administrative, is not sufficient to address the complexity of digital innovation. Therefore, a new approach is needed that positions the SSB as a strategic actor in technology-based supervision, information system integration, and digital competency development. Synergy between the SSB, regulators, academics, and industry players is key to building an adaptive and responsive sharia compliance system in the digital era.

Abstract

The digital transformation of the financial services sector, particularly within Sharia banking, has brought about significant changes that reshape transaction patterns, the relationship between consumers and financial institutions, and the legal frameworks that support them. While digitalization promotes efficiency, financial inclusion, and accessibility, it also introduces new vulnerabilities technical, contractual, and related to compliance with Sharia principles that may adversely affect consumers. This conceptual article is based on a literature review of 30 national and international scholarly articles published in the last five years, focusing on consumer protection, digital financial services, and Sharia legal ethical principles. Employing a normative-juridical approach and conceptual analysis, the study explores the intersection of consumer protection regulations, the values of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, and emerging legal challenges within the digital financial landscape. The findings indicate a critical need to reconstruct the paradigm of consumer protection in digital Sharia banking. This reconstruction must transcend formal legal approaches by integrating principles of contractual justice, digital transparency, institutional accountability, and adaptive Sharia ethics. Consequently, consumer protection must be designed not only to respond to digital risks but also to prevent them while remaining consistent with the foundational tenets of Islamic law.

Abstract

study aims to analyze the adaptive strategies implemented by Islamic banking institutions in response to global economic instability following financial crises. Utilizing a systematic literature review (SLR) method, the research identifies strategic initiatives rooted in Sharia principles, emphasizing the role of Sharia Supervisory Boards, internal Sharia compliance, product innovation, and the empowerment of the real sector through financing for MSMEs and agriculture. These strategies align with the ethical and social justice values of Islamic economics, such as fairness, balance, and mutual benefit. The study finds that effective Sharia governance, particularly through internal review mechanisms, significantly contributes to operational resilience and risk mitigation. It concludes that Islamic banks, while not immune to macroeconomic disruptions, can enhance their financial performance an social impact through adaptive, Sharia-compliant strategic approaches

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Islamic banking plays a crucial role as a financial intermediary that not only prioritizes profit but also aims to empower the economic well-being of the ummah. However, in practice, Islamic banks in Indonesia have largely focused on consumptive financing and have yet to fully engage with the microenterprise sector, which constitutes the backbone of the ummah's economy. This study seeks to reconceptualize the intermediary function of Islamic banking through a microfinance lens within the context of an economic transition era characterized by digitalization, socio-economic transformation, and widening financial access inequality. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through library research, the study analyzes academic literature, secondary data, and relevant policy frameworks. The findings highlight the strategic potential of Islamic microfinance in reinforcing the ummah’s economy by upholding principles of justice, sustainability, and inclusivity. The implementation of integrated Islamic microfinance models—leveraging Islamic social funds (zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf) and fostering collaboration between Islamic banks and Islamic microfinance institutions (BMTs/LKMS)—can significantly enhance the effectiveness of financial intermediation. The study recommends a paradigm shift from a bank-centric to a community-centric intermediation model, strengthened microfinance regulatory frameworks, and the digitalization of microfinance services to expand outreach to underserved economic segments in a more inclusive and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study investigates the transformative impact of financial technology (fintech) on the conventional banking sector within the framework of a platform-based digital economy. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, the research systematically analyzes 30 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2015 and 2023. The objective is to explore the evolving dynamics between banks and fintech firms, focusing on patterns of strategic collaboration, institutional adaptation, and technological integration. The findings reveal that the relationship between traditional banks and fintech has shifted from one of disruption to symbiotic cooperation, wherein fintech contributes agility and innovation, while banks offer infrastructure, regulatory legitimacy, and consumer trust. This transformation facilitates the development of more efficient, inclusive, and sustainable financial services. The study underscores the critical role of adaptive regulatory frameworks, enhanced digital literacy, and the incorporation of Islamic digital financial tools in supporting this transformation, particularly in the context of Islamic banking. It recommends policy strategies such as open banking architecture and enabling regulation models to foster innovation while ensuring systemic stability and inclusivity.

Abstract

Digital transformation in the financial sector has become an urgent necessity to achieve financial inclusion, particularly for underserved communities. Islamic Microfinance Institutions (LKMS), such as Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) and Islamic cooperatives, play a strategic role in empowering grassroots economies, especially in rural areas. However, the digitalization of LKMS faces various challenges, including limited digital infrastructure, low digital literacy among managers and clients, and regulatory constraints. This study aims to analyze the role of LKMS in promoting digital financial inclusion, identify the barriers they face, formulate practical strategies, and explore potential collaborations with Islamic fintech. By applying a contextual analysis approach and integrating Islamic financial principles, this research is expected to contribute both theoretically and practically to the development of effective and sustainable LKMS digitalization

Abstract

This article aims to systematically review the literature on the integration of green banking concepts with Islamic economic principles in promoting a sustainable financial system. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study analyzes 30 academic articles published between 2014 and 2024, selected based on established inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings reveal that green banking practices grounded in maqasid al-shariah can enhance social justice, environmental stewardship, and the effectiveness of Islamic financial intermediation. Nevertheless, several challenges persist, including weak regulatory frameworks, low public awareness of Islamic green finance, and the lack of comprehensive indicators that integrate spiritual, social, and ecological dimensions. This article provides a conceptual synthesis and thematic map that serve as a foundation for the future development of Islamic green banking models.
