Abstract

The World Health Organization states that there are approximately 23 million people with schizophrenia worldwide. The positive and negative symptoms experienced by patients with schizophrenia can significantly affect their ability to engage in activities, build relationships, and live independently. Art therapy, as part of a therapeutic modality, serves as a therapeutic intervention and can be used as a tool to provide psychological insights and promote emotional maturity. Painting or drawing can visualize symbols that emerge from the subconscious as expressions of the patients. The research method involved electronic searches using databases such as PubMed Health, ScienceDirect, and CrossRef, with the keyword "art therapy." The search for journals was further narrowed by adding keywords such as "psychiatric, schizophrenia, drawing, and painting," with a publication range between 2013 and 2018, and utilizing research methods including randomized control trials and quasi-experimental studies. The results of the research indicate that the management of art therapy through painting and drawing in patients with schizophrenia can enhance motivation, improve interpersonal relationships, increase medication adherence, improve sleep patterns, reduce both positive and negative symptoms, and decrease levels of anxiety, depression, and anger. Based on a literature review of four journals, it was found that painting therapy is effective in improving the condition of patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract

Oral hygiene is very important to prevent infection in patients in the ICU, especially those using ventilators. The mouth's natural cleansing mechanism can be disrupted, increasing the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) due to microorganisms that develop in the oropharynx and spread to the airways within 48 hours. "This study aims to compare the Oral Health Assessment Instrument (OHAT) and Oral Assessment Scale (OAS) scores in assessing the oral health condition of ICU & HCU patients at Atama Jaya Hospital, North Jakarta." With a quantitative research design and comparative analytical observational approach, the sample consisted of 27 patients selected according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using OHAT and OAS, and analyzed using the Mann Whitney statistical test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between OHAT and OAS in assessing patients' oral health (p=0.000). The OAS demonstrated a higher median score, reflecting higher sensitivity in detecting variations in oral health and providing a more inclusive assessment than the OHAT. Conclusion: OAS is better at identifying significant oral health problems.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder that affects around 1% of the world's population. Some patients with schizophrenia experience psychiatric emergencies that require prompt and appropriate intervention to reduce the risk of complications and promote a good outcome. This systematic literature review aims to describe of emergency psychiatric interventions in schizophrenia. The results of the review show that appropriate and prompt intervention are very important in reducing the risk of complications and improving good outcomes in schizophrenic patients who experience psychiatric emergencies. Some effective interventions include administering antipsychotic drugs, inhaled loxapine and providing non-pharmacological interventions, namely verbal de-escalation. However, more research is needed to clarify the benefits and effectiveness of each of these interventions. Suggestions that can be given are increasing public awareness about the symptoms of schizophrenia and what to do in an emergency situation, special training for medical personnel and emergency workers, as well as further research on emergency psychiatric interventions in schizophrenia.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks T lymphocyte cells and weakens the human immune system. The objective of this study was to describe the lymphocyte count in HIV patients undergoing Antiretroviral Therapy (ART). This research is a descriptive quantitative study with data collection techniques involving Thin Blood Smear examinations. The study was conducted at the Maklawei Health Center Laboratory and the TLM Laboratory of STIKES Papua using a cross-sectional design based on microscopic methods, involving 30 respondents out of a population of 78, selected using random sampling. The respondents were HIV patients actively undergoing ART at the Malawei Health Center in Sorong City. The results showed that among the 30 HIV respondents actively undergoing ART in the working area of the Malawei Health Center, Sorong City, 83.3% (25 respondents) had lymphocyte counts within the normal range (> 20%-40%), while 16.7% (5 respondents) had lymphocyte counts below the normal range (< 20%). In conclusion, this study illustrates that 9 males and 16 females had normal lymphocyte counts, while 1 male and 4 females had lymphocyte counts below normal. This indicates that ART successfully helps maintain the immune system. The government and related parties must ensure the availability of ART to improve health and reduce the risk of infections in HIV patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Elderly people often experience sleep disorders that affect their physical and mental well-being. This decline in sleep quality is a common problem as we age. Sleep hygiene, as a non-pharmacological approach, focuses on behavioral and environmental changes to improve sleep quality. Aim: to conduct a systematic review to examine the effect of sleep hygiene activities on sleep quality in the elderly. Methods: The search was conducted using several databases including Google Scholar, Research Gate, Pubmed, and Science Direct from the past 4 years, namely 2020 to 2024. The keywords used were "Sleep hygiene", "Sleep Quality / Kualitas Tidur", "Elderly / Lansia", "Eldelry AND sleep hygiene AND improving sleep quality" and a search for Indonesian language articles with the keywords "Lansia AND sleep hygiene AND improving sleep quality" so that 10 articles were obtained for review. Of the 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria, all articles used different sampling methods and techniques. Most studies use probability sampling techniques. The research instrument used in 10 articles and journals to measure sleep quality mostly uses PSQI or Pittsburgh sleep quality index. Results: reviewed from the study of ten articles showed that sleep hygiene significantly improves sleep quality in the elderly. The presence of significant changes in various aspects of sleep quality (sleep efficiency, sleep time, use of sleeping pills, and sleep disturbances) indicates that sleep hygiene can be an effective strategy to overcome sleep problems in the elderly group. The decrease in the prevalence of sleep disorders after the intervention also strengthens the evidence that sleep hygiene has a positive effect. Conclusion: Sleep hygiene has been shown to be an effective approach to improving the sleep quality of older adults. Educational interventions on sleep hygiene can have a positive impact on the sleep patterns of the elderly, thereby improving their overall quality of life. Therefore, the implementation of sleep hygiene needs to be further enforced especially among the elderly to overcome the problem of sleep disorders that often occur.

Abstract

Mental illness is a condition in which a person's mental functioning is altered, resulting in decreased mental performance and creating distress for the individual or hindering the performance of their social roles. Individuals suffering from mental illness generally experience difficulties in building relationships with those around them. Clients often tend to stay away from their social environment, making it difficult for them to interact with others. This condition is known as social isolation. Social isolation is a state where a person feels alone, which is perceived to be caused by others and seen as a negative and threatening situation. The consequences of social isolation can include social withdrawal, irritability, unpredictable behavior, hallucinations, as well as lack of attention to oneself. The purpose of this case study is to identify the success of providing social isolation implementation strategies. The method used was a case study involving the nursing process including assessment, data analysis, nursing diagnosis, intervention planning, implementation, evaluation, and observation. This case study was conducted for 10 days of monitoring. Interventions in this study were carried out through direct demonstration. The results of the intervention carried out on the patient showed a decrease in symptoms of social isolation in the individual.

Abstract

The incidence of stunting in toddlers is a major nutritional issue in Indonesia. Data from the Nutrition Status Monitoring (PSG) over the past three years shows that stunting has the highest prevalence compared to other nutritional problems such as underweight, wasting, and obesity. The prevalence of stunting in toddlers increased from 27.5% in 2016 to 29.6% in 2017. Various factors influence the occurrence of stunting; however, these factors can vary by region. Detailed data on the determinants of stunting in children is crucial for informing government policies in addressing public health issues, particularly stunting. This study focuses on Banjarnegara Regency, which ranks among the top five regions with the highest stunting rates in Central Java. The objective of this research is to analyze the factors influencing stunting among children aged 2-5 years in Banjarnegara Regency. This quantitative study uses a case-control approach, with a population of all children aged 2-5 years. Data analysis includes univariate descriptive analysis and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test. The results indicate that education, economic status, environment, and birth length are associated with stunting in toddlers, whereas exclusive breastfeeding history is not associated with stunting.

Abstract

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal disorder involving dysregulation of luteinizing hormone (LH) and its receptor, leading to menstrual irregularities and anovulation. This study evaluates the potential of Clitoria ternatea, a traditional medicinal plant, in modulating LH receptor activity through in silico analysis. Methods: Active compounds from Clitoria ternatea, including flavonols (kaempferol, isorhamnetin), flavones (baicalein, luteolin, apigenin), phenolic acids (chlorogenic, protocatechuic, gallic), and epicathechin, were identified via PubChem. Lipinski’s rule and LD50 classifications were used to assess drug-like properties and toxicity. Bioactivity was predicted using PASS Online, SwissTarget Prediction, PharmMapper, and SuperPred. The LH receptor's 3D structure was modeled using Swiss Model and validated with Procheck and Errat Check. Molecular docking studies using PyRx assessed binding affinities between the compounds, spironolactone, flutamide, and the LH receptor. Results: Docking results revealed strong binding affinities of Clitoria ternatea compounds with the LH receptor, particularly phenolic acids and flavonoids, showing comparable or better interactions than spironolactone and flutamide. These interactions suggest a potential role in restoring hormonal balance and ovulatory function. The study highlights the therapeutic potential of Clitoria ternatea for PCOS management. Its compounds demonstrate significant LH receptor interactions, offering a promising basis for further research. Conclusion: Clitoria ternatea shows promise as a natural therapeutic candidate for PCOS. Future in vitro, in vivo, and clinical trials are needed to validate these findings

Abstract

Insomnia is a prevalent health problem among the elderly worldwide, significantly impacting their quality of life and overall health. Environmental factors—such as room temperature, noise, lighting, and cleanliness—play a critical role in increasing insomnia risk. Nursing management is essential in optimizing these environmental conditions to support better sleep quality in elderly patients. Objective: This study aims to examine the role of nursing management in improving environmental factors to reduce insomnia risk among the elderly. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with 45 elderly respondents selected by total sampling. Data collection used validated questionnaires including the Insomnia Rating Scale and environmental comfort assessments via Likert scales. Analysis involved univariate, bivariate (Fisher’s exact test), and multivariate logistic regression techniques. Results: Findings revealed that 66.7% of participants were at high risk of insomnia. Room temperature regulation was the most influential factor (RR = 5.10; p = 0.005), followed by noise control (RR = 3.85; p = 0.02), lighting (RR = 3.60; p = 0.03), and environmental cleanliness (RR = 3.40; p = 0.04). Poor environmental conditions significantly increased insomnia risk. Conclusion: Nursing management focusing on regulating room temperature, reducing noise, optimizing lighting, and maintaining cleanliness is crucial to decrease insomnia risk in the elderly. This study highlights the need for nursing education and policies emphasizing environmental management to enhance elderly sleep quality and well-being.

Abstract

This study employs a descriptive quantitative method with a bibliometric approach to analyze research trends related to fall prevention in the elderly. E-counseling, as an innovative approach to fall prevention, has not been widely explored in previous studies. Data indicate that approximately 30–40% of older adults experience falls each year, and 50% of them suffer recurrent falls, which may lead to serious injuries or even death. The bibliometric analysis was conducted to identify key keywords, research trends, and inter-topic relationships within the existing literature. The network visualization results show that topics such as “Prevention Program,” “Knowledge,” “Nurse,” and “Technology” are major focuses in this field of research. The role of technology and family support was also identified as a crucial factor in fall prevention strategies. The proximity of nodes in the network indicates that these keywords frequently co-occur in publications, reflecting strong interconnections among these topics in the context of fall prevention in the elderly. The importance of research on e-counseling for families of elderly individuals at risk of falling lies in its potential to provide emotional support and relevant information to help families manage fall risks. Through e-counseling, families can be better prepared to provide necessary care, enhance the safety of the home environment, and understand the specific risk factors faced by older adults. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for the development of more effective and targeted e-counseling programs, ultimately improving the quality of life and safety of the vulnerable elderly population.
