Abstract

Background: This community service program addresses the critical agricultural challenges of post-harvest loss in Asmorobangun Village, Kediri, specifically rapid product spoilage, inadequate storage, and unstable market prices. The focus is on introducing accessible technological solutions to farmers for hygienic post-harvest handling. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this program is to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of ozone technology combined with cold storage in reducing post-harvest losses. The objectives are to extend the shelf life of horticultural products, improve their market quality, and empower farmers through participatory training and application. Methods: The implementation used a participatory approach, actively involving farmers in all stages: problem identification, socialization, design and assembly of a corona discharge–type ozone generator and cold storage units, equipment testing, technical training, and field assistance. Results: The combined use of ozone and cold storage significantly extended product shelf life—by 2–3 days at room temperature and up to 3–4 weeks with cold storage. The technology effectively maintained freshness, color, and texture while being user-friendly and eco-friendly. Farmers responded positively due to its economic benefits and improved product marketability. The program successfully established a replicable model for sustainable post-harvest management in similar farming communities.

Abstract

Background: Limited access to educational technology at Sekolah Indonesia Yangon (SIY), Myanmar, created challenges in implementing engaging STEM learning. This community service program addressed these issues by supporting teachers, students, and parents in adopting creative, low-cost STEM activities. Purpose of the Study: The program aimed to enhance teachers’ competence in game-based STEM learning, improve students’ STEM concept mastery, and strengthen parental involvement in home-based learning within a three-month period. Methods: A participatory mentoring model was used, integrating game-based learning, collaborative workshops, and hands-on experimentation through the activity “Ice Cream without a Freezer.” Pre- and post-evaluations assessed changes in teacher skills, student understanding, and parental engagement. Results: The program increased students’ STEM understanding by 33%, improved teachers’ creativity in designing learning games, and encouraged stronger parental support. The activity effectively fostered collaboration, communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills using simple, low-cost materials.

Abstract

Background: This community service addresses the economic challenges faced by fishermen, who are highly dependent on unpredictable sea conditions, leading to difficulties in controlling operational costs and predicting sales. The program specifically focuses on empowering the women fish sellers (Papalele) in the community by introducing digital tools to enhance market access and sales efficiency. Purpose of the Study: The aim is to train Papalele women to utilize the SIPIKANSERI website for selling fish. The objectives are to improve their digital literacy, increase sales efficiency, expand their market reach, and ultimately contribute to the economic empowerment of the fishing community. Methods: The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, structured into four sequential stages: socialization, training, mentoring/assistance, and evaluation. Results: The activity yielded positive outcomes: 1) Post-training assessments showed an improved understanding of the website among participants. 2) Post-mentoring evaluations indicated an increased practical ability to operate key website features, though initial adoption was modest (3 out of 25 trained members actively utilized the platform). 3) The program led to increased efficiency and empowerment, with users saving on selling time, consumption costs, and product unloading costs. 4) It successfully expanded the market reach, attracting customers from various areas such as Passo, Lateri, and Gunung Nona.

Abstract

Ornamental fish have become a popular hobby, offering beauty and tranquility to many homes. However, maintaining consistent feeding remains a challenge that often leads to malnutrition, stunted growth, and poor water quality due to overfeeding. This study aims to address these issues by developing an automatic fish feeding system integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The system employs an LDR sensor, DC motor, and NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller, enabling remote control and real-time monitoring through a mobile application connected to the Adafruit IO cloud. Using the experimental method, the system was tested for accuracy, connectivity, and feed timing performance. The results showed consistent feeding with an average delay of only three minutes, ensuring operational reliability. This research not only provides a practical solution for fish keepers but also supports digital empowerment for small-scale aquaculture businesses through the adoption of smart IoT systems.

Abstract

Background: Strengthening the value of religious moderation is a strategic agenda in Islamic boarding school education, especially among adolescent students who are vulnerable to the influence of extreme ideologies and the unfiltered flow of digital information. Purpose of the Study: This Qaryah Thayyibah-based community service program aims to revitalize the value of religious moderation among adolescent students at the Nurul Muttaqin Islamic Boarding School in Malang through the integration of psychological counseling and communication. Methods: The implementation method includes four stages: (1) assessing students' needs to identify challenges related to religious moderation; (2) psychologically based individual and group counseling focusing on emotional management, strengthening self-identity, and problem-solving skills; (3) focus group discussions (FGDs) emphasizing reflection on the values of tolerance, balance, justice, and deliberation; and (4) effective communication simulations that foster empathy, openness, and respect for differences. Results: The results of the activity indicate a significant increase in students' understanding of the principles of religious moderation, healthy communication skills, and the ability to manage differences constructively. Counseling has proven effective in helping students reflect on their spiritual and social experiences, fostering a new awareness of the importance of living a moderate, peaceful, and inclusive life. These findings demonstrate the contribution of community service in building the character of adolescent students based on Islamic values of rahmatan lil 'alamin (blessing for the universe) while strengthening a harmonious pesantren culture.

Abstract

This community service program was conducted in South Papua, focusing on the empowerment of the “Mama Juan” MSME, a local producer of the traditional food Sagu Sep. The program addressed key challenges such as limited product shelf life, manual financial management, and restricted marketing reach. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), which encompassed socialization, training and technology implementation. The introduction of freezers, ovens, coconut graters, and vacuum sealers enabled the production of Frozen Sagu Sep with improved hygiene, durability, and market value. Financial management was strengthened through QRIS and simple accounting applications, while digital marketing and rebranding expanded market reach and visibility. The results show a significant transformation toward modern, technology-based business practices, providing a replicable empowerment model for local MSMEs in Southern Papua.

Abstract

Background: This community engagement program addresses the challenge of strengthening family resilience (sakinah families) by focusing on women's empowerment and child protection within the community. The program utilizes an asset-based perspective to build upon existing community strengths rather than focusing solely on deficiencies. Purpose of the Study: The program aims to revitalize the function of sakinah families through the specific objectives of enhancing women's leadership, providing Islamic parenting education, preventing early marriage, and fostering economic empowerment. Methods: The program was implemented using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) framework, structured into five key stages: discovery, dream, design, delivery, and destiny. Activities included educational workshops, forum establishment, and productive economic training. Results: Quantitative results showed a significant increase in participants' legal and religious literacy, with understanding of the legal minimum marriage age rising from 36% to 89%. The program successfully established a sustainable women's forum (20 leaders) that coordinates monthly parenting and adolescent counseling sessions. Furthermore, the formation of a women's business group led to an average 15% increase in household income, demonstrating enhanced economic agency. The ABCD approach proved effective in building sustainable community structures for family development.
