Abstract

Bira Beach in South Sulawesi is a leading coastal tourism destination with strong potential for local economic growth through micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, many MSMEs still face challenges related to limited digital literacy, product innovation, and understanding of sustainable business management. This community service program was designed to enhance MSME competitiveness, promote sustainable business practices aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), improve digital literacy, and foster collaboration among entrepreneurs, academics, and local government. Using participatory collaborative and descriptive methods, the program implemented a series of workshops, mentoring sessions, and field visits focusing on financial technology adoption, creative product innovation, and sustainable creative economy training. The results show an increased understanding of sustainable business concepts, greater readiness to adopt financial technology such as QRIS and e-wallets, and enhanced digital marketing capabilities among MSME participants. The program also encouraged stronger cooperation between MSMEs and local stakeholders to support long-term independence and sustainable community-based economic development in the Bira Beach area.

Abstract

This community engagement project aimed to address operational challenges faced by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through an integrated Point of Sales (POS) system. A case study at Akane Beauty Studio and Salon used a User-Centered Design (UCD) and Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach, managed under the PMBOK framework. The implementation yielded a significant impact on operational efficiency, notably reducing transaction time from over one minute to under one minute. A comparison of the workflow also showed improvement, with a manual process that previously took four minutes now being completed in two minutes. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) confirmed the system was fully functional and easy to use. This project demonstrates that a user-centric digital solution can tangibly improve the efficiency, data accuracy, and business sustainability of MSMEs.

Abstract

HIV-related stigma remains a major barrier to effective homecare for people living with HIV (PLHIV). This community service program focused on empowering AIDS Care Volunteers in Bandung, Indonesia. The program aimed to enhance knowledge, caregiving skills, and social acceptance toward PLHIV. Thirty AIDS care volunteers participated in a capacity strengthening workshop co-designed and implemented using a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach. Activities included participatory learning sessions, role-play simulations, group reflections, and collective action planning. Evaluation combined pre–post testing and qualitative reflections. Results showed significant improvements in HIV knowledge (t = –7.60, p<0.001) and social acceptance (Z = –4.026, p<0.001). Participants also demonstrated increased critical awareness, emergence of local leadership, and stronger collaboration with the Bandung City AIDS Commission. These outcomes highlight the potential of community-based empowerment programs to reduce stigma and strengthen sustainable HIV care.

Abstract

Background: This study addresses the critical issue of workforce readiness for Industry 4.0, focusing on the community service subject of the Balai Latihan Kerja Komunitas (BLKK) vocational training program. It aims to evaluate the program's effectiveness in enhancing the skills of participants from rural and underserved communities to meet modern labor market demands. Purpose of the Study: The purpose is to assess the impact of the BLKK program on improving participants' employability and entrepreneurial preparedness. Its objectives are to evaluate training effectiveness, measure participant satisfaction and self-efficacy gains, and identify key factors for sustainable skill development. Methods: The research employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, actively engaging at least 34 BLKK partners and participants in identifying skill gaps and co-creating the training curriculum. The analysis was framed within a multidisciplinary theoretical framework combining Empowerment Theory, Human Capital Theory, and Digital Literacy Theory. Results: The findings indicate exceptionally high participant satisfaction, with a mean score of 4.38/5 for training quality. The program successfully enhanced economic preparedness, with 59% of participants strongly agreeing they felt more prepared for employment or entrepreneurship. Key to this success was the integration of digital literacy, technical skills, and continuous mentoring. Recommendations include expanding digital literacy components and strengthening long-term mentorship and external network support to ensure program sustainability and economic inclusion.

It focuses on the BLKK programs in East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara, with the purpose of evaluating their potential to evolve beyond training facilities into effective business incubators that foster community entrepreneurship. Purpose of the Study: The purpose is to assess the capacity of BLKK centers to function as business incubators. The objectives are to identify the critical factors—such as human resources, leadership, environment, and collaboration—necessary for this transition and to provide actionable recommendations for improvement. Methods: The study employs a mixed-methods approach, utilizing field visits and questionnaires to collect empirical data from the targeted BLKK centers. The analysis is framed within a holistic perspective that considers integrated organizational and ecosystem development. Results: The findings underscore that transforming BLKK centers into effective incubators requires a comprehensive strategy. Key recommendations include aligning training curricula with market demands, improving tenants' access to capital, expanding professional and business networks, and instituting robust post-incubation support mechanisms. The study concludes that continuous monitoring and evaluation, coupled with these strategic enhancements, are vital for developing a competent workforce and promoting sustainable business practices within the community.

Abstract

The Environmental Home Group (Kelompok Rumah Lingkungan – KRL) in collaboration with the Women Farmers Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani – KWT) revealed that one of the problems that they want to overcome in Pamijahan Village, Bogor Regency is how to utilize used cooking oil sourced from the Pamijahan Village community, especially in supporting agricultural activities currently being carried out by KWT. This was also expressed by the Head of Pamijahan Village. Therefore, the JELITA Program (Used Cooking Oil as Liquid Plant Fertilizer) is present as a solution by processing used cooking oil into organic liquid fertilizer that is useful for the agricultural sector while reducing the impact of pollution. This program was implemented by 9 IPB University students and involved 20 people from Pamijahan Village, Bogor Regency. The liquid fertilizer production process includes collecting used cooking oil, mixing it with additional materials such as molasses, EM-4, and rice bran, and fermentation for 20 days. The results of this activity show that converting used cooking oil into liquid fertilizer can be an alternative approach in managing household waste. In addition, this program contributes to meeting local fertilizer needs so that it can reduce the use of conventional chemical fertilizers.

Abstract

Background: This study addresses the public health issue of community hygiene and wellness by focusing on the Clean and Healthy Lifestyle Behavior (CHLB) as a key parameter. The subject of the assessment is the community of Sompok Hamlet, Bantul, with the purpose of evaluating the implementation of CHLB within households to understand areas of strength and needed improvement. Purpose of the Study: The purpose is to assess the level of CHLB implementation in Sompok Hamlet. The objective is to measure household compliance across various CHLB indicators and identify specific behavioral gaps that require targeted intervention. Methods: The study employed a cross-sectional survey design conducted in 2023. Data were collected from 202 households across seven neighborhood units (RT) using a structured questionnaire to evaluate compliance with standard CHLB indicators. Results: The results showed that 68.3% of households met the criteria for independent healthy communities. High compliance was observed in indicators like access to clean water, sanitation, exclusive breastfeeding, and toddler weighing. However, significant gaps were identified in physical activity (71.3% low compliance) and indoor smoking practices (64% low compliance). Practices related to fruit/vegetable consumption, handwashing, and larva elimination showed varied results. The findings highlight the need for focused educational programs to address these specific behavioral deficiencies to promote sustainable community health.
