Abstract

Breast cancer is a non-communicable disease characterized by rapid and uncontrolled cell growth that can spread to other parts of the body. Breast cancer ranks first among all cancers (34.3%), followed by cervical cancer (19.12%). This community service activity aimed to enhance the capacity of cadres to perform breast self-examination (BSE) as an effort for early detection of breast cancer. The method employed was coaching, targeting all 70 Posyandu cadres (10 cadres per Posyandu). The coaching media consisted of modules and leaflets and was implemented through the delivery of educational materials on cancer and early detection, as well as demonstrations of BSE procedures. The results showed that knowledge levels, attitude scores, and skills were higher after the coaching intervention. In conclusion, coaching effectively improves the ability of Posyandu cadres to conduct early detection of breast cancer through BSE.

Abstract

The problem of plastic waste is an increasingly pressing environmental issue due to its difficult-to-decompose nature and its negative impact on environmental quality and community settlements. Sijantang Koto Village in Sawahlunto City faces a similar problem, where household plastic waste is still often disposed of carelessly or burned due to limited waste management. This community service activity, conducted through the Community Service Program (KKN) of Padang State University (UNP), aims to reduce the volume of plastic waste, increase community participation in waste management, and support the creation of inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable settlements. The method used is direct action with a participatory approach through collecting and compacting plastic waste into used bottles to create ecobricks. The results of the activity indicate that the resulting ecobricks can be used as elements of the village environment. This activity contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 11 on inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable settlements and Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production.

Abstract

Nyeri pinggang pada kehamilan merupakan keluhan muskuloskeletal yang sering dialami ibu hamil trimester II dan III serta berdampak pada aktivitas dan kualitas hidup. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memberikan bimbingan prenatal yoga kepada ibu hamil yang mengalami nyeri pinggang sekaligus mendampingi bidan dalam penerapan terapi komplementer. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendampingan dengan desain pretest–posttest pada 30 ibu hamil di Praktik Mandiri Bidan Sri Widi Antari, Kabupaten Gianyar. Intervensi berupa latihan prenatal yoga selama satu jam dengan gerakan yang aman dan terstruktur. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan penurunan tingkat nyeri pinggang, dari mayoritas nyeri sedang (70%) menjadi nyeri ringan (93,4%) dan tanpa nyeri (6,6%). Kegiatan ini membuktikan bahwa prenatal yoga efektif mengurangi nyeri pinggang serta meningkatkan kapasitas bidan dalam pelayanan komplementer berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the suboptimal implementation of Education Facilities and Infrastructure Standards as regulated in Minister of National Education Regulation Number 24 of 2007, which remains a challenge in various educational units, including at SMP Negeri 1 Belitang. The objective of this study is to describe the level of conformity in the implementation of facilities and infrastructure standards at the school and to analyze the internal and external factors influencing it. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation with the school principal, the vice principal for curriculum, and subject teachers. The research findings indicate that most facilities and infrastructure meet the standards, such as classrooms, computer laboratories, and digital facilities, although the science laboratory and counseling room remain limited. The main supporting factors for successful implementation include collaborative leadership, community participation, and transparent utilization of BOS and DAK funds. This study concludes that the effectiveness of education facility management depends on a participatory culture, digital innovation, and sustainable governance aligned with national education policies.

Abstract

Sex education plays an important role in equipping children and adolescents with knowledge about the body, gender differences, puberty changes, and the prevention of sexual violence. The low implementation of sex education in Indonesia, including in the Mentawai Islands, contributes to high rates of risky sexual behavior, unwanted pregnancies, and cases of sexual violence that are often resolved through customary mechanisms. This educational activity aims to enhance students' knowledge at SDN 08 Matobe regarding the concept of sex education, forms of sexual harassment, and self-protection strategies. The session was conducted on July 21, 2025, for students in grades IV–VI using an interactive presentation method with a projector, accompanied by an evaluation quiz. The results showed high enthusiasm and improved understanding among students regarding the material presented. The education program proved effective in fostering awareness of maintaining bodily boundaries and reporting incidents of abuse. It is recommended that sex education be integrated sustainably into the curriculum, supported by gender sensitive teacher training, and active involvement of parents and the community to create a safe environment for children.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) is a government policy aimed at improving health and fulfilling the nutritional needs of students at school. However, its implementation is not free from various food safety risks. The suspected poisoning cases that occurred among several elementary and middle school students in Padang Panjang City in October 2025 highlight the importance of comprehensive supervision during the food serving process. Laboratory test results found that MBG food was safe for consumption, but there was contamination of coliform bacteria in the refillable drinking water provided at the school. This indicates that sanitation factors and the cleanliness of the food serving environment also play a role in triggering health issues. This article discusses the potential risks in the MBG program, the causative factors in the Padang Panjang case, as well as relevant risk mitigation strategies, such as routine drinking water inspections, strengthening hygiene SOPs, hygiene education for students, and inter-agency coordination. Risk mitigation is an important step to ensure food safety, prevent similar incidents, and support the sustainability of the MBG program in the future.

Abstract

This community service activity was initiated in response to the lack of beneficial activity options for children in the Jorong Mandahiling and Piliang Laweh areas, Nagari Sumanik, during the school holidays. A "Child-Friendly Post" was created as a temporary space to support children's development through educational games and activities, along with a positive emotional approach. The methods applied were socialization and interactive activities such as creative games, group learning, and reflection sessions facilitated by university students. This activity also involved the local community. The participants consisted of approximately twenty children, ranging from elementary to junior high school age. The evaluation was conducted through direct observation of the children's participation, emotional expression, and growth in social interaction. The results of this activity indicated an approximately 70% increase in soft skills such as self-confidence, communication, and teamwork among the children, as well as increased community involvement in supporting educational activities for children.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve students' understanding of basic economic concepts, particularly two-sector economics, which covers the roles of households and companies in economic activities. The activity was carried out at SMAS PGRI 56 Ciputat using lectures and interactive discussions tailored to the characteristics of Generation Z. The material presented covered income circulation, the relationship between production and consumption, and the interconnection of economic activities in everyday life. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the two-sector economy concept and their ability to relate economic theory to real-world practice. This program proves that economic education in schools can be an effective means of instilling a basic understanding of economics and shaping students' critical thinking in dealing with economic phenomena.

Abstract

This study aims to examine efforts to preserve local wisdom in Nagari Sibakur, Tanjung Gadang District, Sijunjung Regency, through the revitalization of traditional performing arts such as Randai and traditional dance, and the strengthening of the cultural tradition of manjapuik anak (children’s dance) in wedding ceremonies. The importance of this topic lies in concerns about the fading of local cultural identity due to modernization. This research was conducted through direct observation by 29 students during their Community Service Program (KKN) in Nagari Sibakur, using a descriptive qualitative approach along with observation, interviews, and documentation techniques with artists, traditional leaders, and the local community. The results indicate that the existence of Randai and traditional dance is still actively maintained through training for the younger generation and traditional activities. The tradition of manjapuik anak also continues to be practiced as an important part of the Minangkabau social structure. This preservation has received strong support from the community and the village government. This research confirms that preserving local wisdom not only preserves cultural heritage but also strengthens the identity and sense of community togetherness.

Abstract

Road safety is a crucial aspect in areas with hazardous geographical conditions such as Jorong Lubuk Bauak, Batipuh Baruah District, Tanah Datar Regency, which features winding roads with sharp turns, narrow widths, minimal lighting, and direct adjacency to steep ravines without safety barriers. Through the 2025 Community Service Program (KKN) of Universitas Negeri Padang, an intervention was carried out in the form of road reflector installation to improve visibility and reduce accident potential, particularly at night and during adverse weather conditions. Activities included planning stages, production of reflector poles from PVC materials, and installation at two strategic points identified through field observation and local community input. Post-installation evaluation results showed significant improvements in road user alertness and ease of recognizing road contours and safe boundaries near ravines. This program demonstrates that simple solutions based on appropriate technology such as road reflectors can be effective and economical alternatives in improving traffic safety in areas with limited infrastructure. It is hoped that this activity can be replicated in other high-risk areas in Indonesia as a concrete implementation of sustainable community service programs.
