Abstract

Bullying in primary education remains a serious issue because of its impact on students' psychological, social, and academic conditions. This community service activity aims to increase students' awareness and understanding of bullying as a preventive effort to reduce the risk of violence, discrimination, and bullying behavior in the school environment. The activity was carried out at SDN 1 Pesawahan through a participatory socialization method involving interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, educational ice-breaking games, and evaluation through observation and simple quizzes. The target participants were students with high intensity of social interaction within the school environment. The results show an increase in students' understanding of the meaning, forms, impacts, and prevention of bullying, as well as the growth of mutual respect, care, and responsibility among students. This activity is expected to create a safe, comfortable school atmosphere free from demeaning or harmful actions, and to serve as a socialization model that can be replicated in other educational institutions.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) positions children as a strategic target group given their role as the nation's future generation. This community service activity aims to describe the empowerment of children through agricultural and environmental education based on the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach in Nanggulan Village, Cawas District, Klaten Regency, Central Java. The ABCD approach was implemented through five stages Discovery, Dream, Design, Define, and Destiny utilizing assets such as early childhood to elementary school-aged children, village officials, and Qur'anic education (TPA) teachers. Three graduated activities were Designed: Plant Tutoring, Ecoprint, and Microgreen Cultivation, carried out across five locations over approximately three weeks. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively. Results show the activities reached around 200 children across 10 RW with good participation, despite some facilitators' limitations in managing young participants. This program provided a positive alternative activity during school holidays while reviving children's interest in agriculture, marking a concrete step toward a Child Friendly Village.

Abstract

Household financial management is a key factor in achieving family economic well-being, yet the rise in national financial literacy has not been fully matched by the public's practical ability to manage daily income. PKK women in Malangjiwan Village, Kebonarum Subdistrict, Klaten Regency, who play a central role in managing household needs, still face challenges such as a limited habit of recording income and expenses, the absence of budgets based on priority scales, and constraints in long-term financial planning. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of PKK women in managing family finances effectively and systematically, through an educational and participatory approach involving material delivery, discussion, and hands-on practice, covering financial planning, smart budgeting, cash flow recording, and sharia-based debt management. The results showed that participants were enthusiastic, actively engaged in discussions, and were able to understand basic recording and budgeting practices, although the evaluation was conducted descriptively without pre-test and post-test measurements. This activity is expected to foster more planned financial habits, thereby strengthening the household economic stability of the Malangjiwan Village community.

Abstract

Household waste with resale value in Kampung Pasir Randu RT 006/RW 003, Sukasari Village, Serang Baru Sub-district, has not yet been managed in an organised manner. Plans to establish a conventional waste bank have been hampered by the lack of suitable storage facilities, meaning residents have had to rely on garages or makeshift empty buildings, even though such facilities are crucial to the sustainability of waste management. These constraints on land and budget have led to the need for a more streamlined management model, one that can operate without large-scale facilities whilst still fostering community participation. This issue has become increasingly urgent because final disposal sites frequently receive unsorted waste due to weaknesses in the upstream system; consequently, a participatory model based on neighbourhood units (RTs) has become an urgent priority that requires an immediate response, whilst also serving as a tangible manifestation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in community service. This community service initiative aims to design and implement a waste-for-charity model that is adaptable to the limited resources and budget in Pasir Randu Village, to encourage residents’ participation in sorting and collecting waste of economic value, and to evaluate the effectiveness of this scheme as an alternative to conventional waste banks. The method used was descriptive qualitative research employing a participatory action research approach, with Community Service Programme (KKN) students acting as facilitators who supported residents from problem identification through to evaluation. Data was collected through participatory observation, interviews and documentation, covering seven stages ranging from problem identification, scheme formulation, coordination with vendors, community outreach and education, determination of collection points, Excel-based record-keeping and a trial of collective sales, to final evaluation and documentation. The targeted outcomes include the establishment of a waste-for-charity model based on collection points without permanent storage facilities; the agreement of waste criteria and prices with vendors; increased active participation by residents in sorting and collecting waste; the provision of a transparent and easily replicable Excel recording system; and the completion of at least one collective sales transaction. This initiative also aims to produce a final report and a scientific article to serve as material for evaluating sustainability and as a basis for replicating the programme in other RT/RW areas facing similar constraints in terms of facilities.

Abstract

Waste management remains one of the challenges faced by the community of Kajoran Village, Klaten Selatan District, Klaten Regency, particularly due to limited waste management facilities and the continued practice of open waste burning. This community service activity aimed to provide an alternative for managing inorganic waste through the construction of a low-smoke waste incineration facility and to increase community knowledge, awareness, and involvement in more responsible waste management. The activity was conducted in RW 002 and RW 003 of Kajoran Village by applying the principles of the participatory action aporoach, which emphasize active community involvement at every stage of the activity. The implementation included problem identification, coordination with the village government and community members, collaborative construction of the facility through mutual cooperation, and assistance in its utilization and maintenance. The results showed that the construction of the low-smoke inorganic waste incineration facility provided a more controlled alternative to open waste burning. Community involvement from the planning stage through the utilization of the facility also encouraged increased participation, knowledge, awareness, and a sense of ownership of the facility. Thus, this activity represents one of the efforts to support more responsible and sustainable community-based waste management in Kajoran Village.

Abstract

The use of commercial pesticides for plant maintenance may increase household expenses, particularly when applied repeatedly. This community service activity aimed to provide knowledge and skills to the community of Sukaraja Village in utilizing locally available materials as simple biopesticide ingredients. The activity was conducted through socialization, demonstration, direct practice, discussion, and participant understanding evaluation. The biopesticide was prepared by blending papaya leaves, soaking them in water for 24 hours, filtering the extract, and combining it with crushed lemongrass and 1–3 drops of Sunlight. The results showed that participants gained knowledge and skills in processing botanical materials into a simple biopesticide using easily accessible equipment. The utilization of locally available materials has the potential to support cost efficiency in plant maintenance by reducing dependence on commercial pesticides. Abstract

Communication and public speaking abilities are essential skills for young people in organizational and community life. Youth involved in organizations such as Karang Taruna play a strategic role in various social activities; therefore, the ability to convey ideas, interact, and communicate effectively needs to be cultivated. However, public speaking is often perceived as an innate talent, causing individuals who lack self-confidence to avoid opportunities to speak in public. This community service activity aimed to convey that public speaking is not merely an innate talent but a skill that can be learned and developed through practice. The Public Speaking Workshop was held on July 11, 2026, at the KKN Post 279 in RT 21, Grujugan Hamlet, Kupang Village, Karangdowo District, Klaten Regency. Seventeen Karang Taruna members participated in the event, which featured Muhammad Fauzan Aminuddin, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the speaker. The activity methods included material presentation, interaction, discussion, and public speaking practice. The results demonstrated active participation and enthusiasm among the attendees. Participants gained an understanding of the importance of public speaking and acquired experience in confidently appearing and communicating before others. This workshop serves as an initial step toward boosting the self-confidence and communication skills of the youth, which can be further developed through continuous public speaking practice within Karang Taruna activities.

Abstract

Household waste management remains a challenge in Kahuman Village, Ngawen District, Klaten Regency, where most residents dispose of waste by burning it and have not optimally utilized the 3R waste processing facility. Low public awareness of organic and inorganic waste sorting is influenced by limited outreach and the absence of separated waste bins. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge, foster awareness, and provide basic skills for sorting and processing organic and inorganic waste. The activity was carried out by students of KKN Group 207, Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Mas Said Surakarta, through socialization sessions and question-and-answer discussions during routine PKK (Family Welfare Movement) meetings in RT 08, 09, 10, 11, and 12 of Kahuman Village from 22 June to 3 August 2026. The results showed an improvement in community understanding of waste types, characteristics, and sorting procedures, along with active participation in the discussion sessions. As a follow-up, the provision of separated waste bins at strategic points in the village is planned to support the sustainability of source-based waste sorting.
