Abstract

Basic math skills are one of the competencies whose development is very important in childhood. Cultivating these skills in children aged 5 to 6 years requires practical, interactive, and engaging learning opportunities, so that they can understand math concepts through activities that are appropriate to their development. The purpose of this research is to develop a learning tool called "Rumah Berhitung", which is an educational game-based learning media designed to stimulate basic math skills in children aged 5 to 6 years. Abilities that can be stimulated through this game are counting 1 to 20, matching number symbols with objects, counting objects, addition, subtraction, and quantity. The ball serves as a tactile object that can be actively manipulated during learning activities, allowing children to gain hands-on experience with math tasks. This research uses a research and development approach based on the ADDIE model which consists of the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases. Participants included experts in the field of early childhood cognition, media experts, and children aged 5 to 6 years from El-Mu'jizah Kindergarten. The data collection instrument used expert validation sheets, observation sheets on children's cognitive abilities, and documentation. The next analysis uses quantitative and qualitative-descriptive methods. The validation results showed that 92.5% of subject matter experts and 86% of media experts considered the learning tools valid. In a trial involving a larger group of 10 children, an overall score of 95.83% was achieved, Children demonstrated 100% mastery of skills such as counting (1–20), matching symbols to objects, counting items, and performing simple addition and subtraction. The ability to compare quantities reaches the level of 75%. The results show that the "Rumah Berhitung" meets the suitability criteria and can be used as a concrete, interactive, and game-based learning tool to foster basic math skills in children aged 5 to 6 years.

Abstract

The deaf are described as individuals with hearing impairments ranging from mild to severe who rely on visual-based communication. In Indonesia, Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO) is widely used due to its natural development within the deaf community. This study aims to evaluate the development and implementation of 3D animation as a visual learning aid for simple BISINDO sentences, making learning more intuitive and accessible. Using the ADDIE instructional model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), the research integrated 30 sign language words into 17 simple sentences featuring custom 3D characters. Descriptive qualitative analysis combined with Likert-scale questionnaires evaluated media validity and usability through feedback from material experts, media experts, and a field test with 6 deaf students from Universitas Negeri Malang. The validation results yielded an overall score of 86.25%, categorizing the 3D animation media as "Very Suitable" for educational use. The findings confirm that 3D animation effectively bridges communication gaps by presenting realistic motion and engaging visual content.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the difference and effect of guided inquiry learning assisted by audiovisual media on elementary students' scientific attitudes in science learning on changes of matter. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 30 third-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Asemrudung, with class 3A as the experimental group and class 3B as the control group. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using an independent samples t-test and simple linear regression. The results showed no statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups (sig. 0.830 > 0.05), and the coefficient of determination was very small (R² = 0.002). However, observation indicated that the experimental group showed stronger curiosity, cooperation, openness, and honesty in recording data. These findings suggest that guided inquiry assisted by audiovisual media contributes positively in qualitative terms to the development of students' scientific attitudes.

Abstract

The psychological development of elementary school students is influenced by the interaction among family, school, and community—collectively known as the Tri-Center of Education. This study aims to analyze the roles and synergy of these three environments in supporting the emotional stability, learning motivation, self-confidence, and social interactions of students at SDN Sumberjo 02. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, supplemented by simple quantitative data. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, questionnaires administered to ten students, and documentation; analysis involved data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and triangulation of sources and techniques. The results indicate that the family plays a role in shaping the emotional foundation, study habits, and self-confidence; the school reinforces psychological development through a supportive learning climate and adaptive strategies; while the community serves as a setting for social interaction development but can also expose students to negative peer influences. The findings demonstrate that synergy among the family, school, and community is essential to creating a consistent and supportive environment for students' psychological development.

Abstract

Children with Down syndrome typically have more developed receptive than expressive language skills, which often limits their ability to convey wants and needs verbally. Left unaddressed, this gap can trigger frustration and tantrum behavior. This study describes the process and outcomes of implementing Phase 1 of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) as an effort to shift weak verbal communication toward more functional visual communication in a girl with Down syndrome at SLB Sumber Dharma, Malang, Indonesia. A qualitative single descriptive case study design (N-1) was used. Data were collected through participatory observation across five intervention sessions, parent interviews, and document review (child data form and planning matrix), then analyzed descriptively and thematically. Results revealed an uneven prompt-fading pattern across three PECS Phase 1 sub-behaviors: reaching toward the communication partner reached independence by the fourth session, handing over the picture card reached independence by the fifth session, while independently taking the card had not yet been achieved by the final session. Post-school fatigue, device distraction, and sensory sensitivity were identified as factors affecting the consistency of the child's performance. These findings underscore the need to report PECS outcomes at the sub-behavior level rather than only as global phase-mastery status, particularly for the Down syndrome population, whose literature base remains comparatively limited relative to the autism population.

Abstract

The successful implementation of equivalency education depends not only on the availability of learning programs but also on the quality of tutor competencies within the non-formal education setting. Tutors possessing strong pedagogical, professional, personal, and social competencies are expected to facilitate effective learning processes, thereby enhancing learner satisfaction. This study aims to describe tutor competencies and learner satisfaction levels, as well as to analyze the relationship between tutor competencies and the satisfaction levels of Package B and Package C learners at PKBM Fanana Insan Baksya, Malang City. A quantitative correlational research approach was employed. The study population consisted of 92 learners (38 in Package B and 54 in Package C). A sample of 75 respondents was determined using Slovin's formula and proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected via a Likert-scale questionnaire. Data analysis involved descriptive analysis and Pearson Product Moment correlation testing. The results indicate that both tutor competencies and learner satisfaction levels fall into the high category. The correlation test revealed a positive and significant relationship between tutor competencies and learner satisfaction; higher tutor competence correlates with higher learner satisfaction. These findings underscore that enhancing tutor competence is a crucial strategy for improving the quality of learning services in equivalency education programs at PKBMs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of differentiated learning in inclusive elementary schools, particularly how teachers adapt instruction to meet students’ diverse learning needs. A qualitative research method was employed using a multi-site case study approach to obtain an in-depth understanding of differentiated learning practices across three inclusive elementary schools. The findings reveal that differentiated learning in the three schools generally follows a similar process. It begins with identifying students’ learning needs through initial assessment and observation, followed by adjustments to learning content, processes, and products according to students’ abilities and characteristics. The learning process concludes with formative assessment, reflection, and follow-up activities, including remedial and enrichment programs. Although the implementation pattern is generally similar, differences are influenced by school characteristics, human resource availability, school policies, experience in inclusive education, and teachers’ competence in adapting learning activities. Based on these findings, schools are encouraged to strengthen differentiated learning through systematic learning tools, continuous teacher professional development, enhanced collaboration among teachers, parents, professionals, and relevant institutions. Through these efforts, schools can improve the quality and effectiveness of educational services for students with diverse learning needs and support their participation and development in inclusive learning environments.

Abstract

Children with hearing impairment experience communication difficulties due to limited access to auditory language input, which often leads to delays in speech and language development compared to hearing children. One approach considered effective in addressing this barrier is the Reflective Maternal Method (Metode Maternal Reflektif/MMR), a language-learning method that imitates the natural communication pattern between a mother and her child. This article aims to examine the implementation strategy of MMR in improving the communication skills of children with hearing impairment. The study was conducted through a systematic literature review of relevant national journal articles. The results show that implementing MMR through the stages of Perdati (heart-to-heart conversation), Percami (ideovisual reading conversation), and Percali (linguistic conversation) can improve both verbal and nonverbal communication skills, enrich vocabulary, and build children's self-confidence. The success of MMR implementation is also influenced by the involvement of teachers, parents, and the surrounding environment. Thus, MMR can serve as an adaptive language-learning strategy alternative for children with hearing impairment.
