Abstract

Interactions on social media are currently intensified, often leading to conflict. These conflicts often arise because interaction patterns on social media differ from typical spoken and written interactions. This study examines how language users express hate speech on social media, particularly Twitter (X). This phenomenon is known as hate speech. This study aims to describe the types of speech acts that appear in hate speech on Twitter (X). The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a pragmatic approach. Data were analyzed using speech acts and hate speech theory. Data were taken from tweets responding to three provincial accounts in Indonesia regarding the performance of regional heads between June and October 2022. The results showed that the types of speech acts encountered were expressive (blaming and asking) and directive (demanding and ordering). Meanwhile, the forms of hate speech found were provocation and insults. The results of the data analysis indicate a relationship between the type and function of speech acts and the form of hate speech.Keyword: directive speech acts, expressive speech acts, hate speech, Twitter (X)

Abstract

Abstract

Online interaction has now become an inevitability. The rapid development of information technology has affected almost every aspect of life, including human interaction. Social media has become one of the most intensive venues for interaction. This research is based on the increasing intensity of conversations on social media, which has blurred the boundaries of politeness. Therefore, it is interesting to observe how participants strive to maintain this politeness. This study focuses on how linguistic politeness emerges on social media, specifically Twitter. One characteristic of social media conversations is the unlimited number of participants, as well as the diversity of their backgrounds. This often gives rise to conflict, especially when controversial topics are discussed. The research method employed is discourse analysis within a pragmatic approach to examine the politeness strategies used, particularly when conveying disagreement or dissatisfaction. This study describes the patterns of politeness strategies on Twitter and the identities performed by participants in interaction. The positive and negative politeness strategies are applied in social media interaction. Keywords: Identity, Politeness Strategies, Social Media, Twitter (X)

Abstract

Abstract

Language plays a central role in shaping and reproducing social reality. Through language, individuals construct meaning, express ideology, and reinforce or challenge social hierarchies. One expression that illustrates this dynamic is “Spek LC”, a popular term on social media on platform X. Derived from “spek” (specification) and “LC” (Lady Companion), it originally described physical looks but has shifted into a form of verbal violence and gender-based discrimination against women. This study analyzes the denotative and connotative meanings of “Spek LC” and its psycholinguistic implications using Roland Barthes’ (1957) connotative semiotics and the Affective Load framework. Employing a qualitative content analysis, textual data were collected from public posts and comments containing the term “Spek LC” on platform X. Findings reveal that at the denotative level, the term refers to appearance, while at the connotative level, it functions as a derogatory label suggesting immorality and social inferiority. Exposure to this term generates a high affective load, evoking emotions such as shame, anger, and self-stigmatization. Overall, the study shows that language in social media operates as a symbolic power that perpetuates gender bias through emotional and ideological mechanisms. It emphasizes the need for critical language awareness to promote ethical and inclusive digital communication. Keywords: Connotative Semiotics, Digital Verbal Violence, Gender Based Discrimination.

Abstract

Stress is a natural physiological and psychological response to everyday demands, yet chronic stress can impair cognitive functioning, emotional regulation, sleep quality, social interaction, and academic or occupational performance. Access to mental health professionals remains limited and early detection is crucial. To address this issue, this study developed a Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-42 (DASS-42)–based expert system for stress diagnosis using the Certainty Factor (CF) method. A key contribution of this work is the active involvement of licensed psychologists in knowledge elicitation, rule construction, symptom weighting, and iterative validation, ensuring clinical accuracy, reliability, and interpretability. The system underwent functional, usability, and diagnostic testing. Black Box Testing confirmed full feature performance (100%), indicating strong system stability. Usability evaluation using the System Usability Scale (SUS) produced a score of 78.375 (Grade B+, “Good”), with the highest acceptance among students and employees, and lower ratings from users with limited digital literacy. Diagnostic validation using 20 test cases assessed by two certified psychologists yielded an average accuracy of 87.5%, showing strong agreement between system results and expert judgment. These findings demonstrate that CF-based reasoning effectively models clinical evaluation of 13 stress indicators from DASS-42, indicating the system’s feasibility a reliable early stress-screening tool. Keywords— Certainty Factor, DASS-42, Expert System, Mental Health Screening, Stress Diagnosis

Abstract

The demand for secure, transparent shipment tracking is rising as digital logistics advances. Traditional centralized tracking systems face issues such as data delays and manipulation, which reduce trust and accuracy. This research aims to create a blockchain-based shipment-tracking system that serves as both a prototype and an educational tool for students. The system features a user interface built with Vue.js and utilizes a middleware layer with Node.js and Express.js. A smart contract in Solidity is deployed on a local Ethereum network using the Hardhat framework. This prototype allows students to engage with decentralized application development and explore interactions among front-end components, middleware, and smart contracts. Each transaction is recorded immutably, with an average gas consumption of about 175,000 units and execution times under 2 seconds, while preventing duplicate shipments. This research offers a functional shipment-tracking model that provides transparent data recording and serves as an effective framework for blockchain education, bridging theoretical concepts with practical applications in higher education. Keywords – Academic Application, Blockchain, Shipment Tracking, Smart Contract, Solidity.

Abstract

Abstract

Many tsunami events that have occurred in Indonesia have been published and also indicate the need for more adequate disaster mitigation efforts. One appropriate disaster mitigation measure is the use of an early warning system. Several studies have found that early warning systems do not work when tsunamis occur. This study aims to identify problems in the implementation of the tsunami early warning system in Indonesia from the perspective of the concept of distortion in communication messages. The research uses qualitative approaches supported by previous studies, various government regulations and supporting data from interviews with residents and tsunami early warning system managers. The research found that the potential for message distortion in communication in early warning systems is grouped into three categories. First, message distortion potential can arise from the operation of tsunami early warning system equipment. Second, message distortion may occur due to coordination in the management of the early warning system. Thirdly, message distortion may arise due to the perception of residents regarding their knowledge of the early warning system. This research recommends eliminating potential message distortion in tsunami early warning system communication by simplifying the flow of the early warning system to shorten coordination among system managers. Keywords: Distortion, Early Warning System, Message, Tsunami.
